  • xxm You're welcome, darling.
    November 27 11:57 AM
  • xxm I really love your reviews on here. Not really a substantial comment I know but still.
    November 26 09:59 PM
  • Gyromania i see you've been on a nostalgia kick of sorts, sowing! kudos for not insta 1.5ing lead sails paper anchor, i actually think that album is pretty good and had to hide my love for it for years on here lol. also, you should make a review out of that adele soundoff. i couldn't agree more with you, although i think she is talented, just not making the kind of music she really wants to/could be
    November 22 05:23 PM
  • Rowan5215 You're too kind
    November 17 04:17 PM
  • kevintsubasa And now you have to go back to March to see what the fuss is all about.Ah, well...
    November 14 01:40 PM
  • DaveyBoy Yeah, it is. Well, apart from this f'n man-flu I have right now.
    November 12 07:08 AM
  • DaveyBoy Not quite, but maybe sort of. If I get a chance in the next couple of days, I'll email you.
    November 12 06:59 AM
  • TheSpirit I think we're all a bit guilty of it. I know I certainly am too haha. Seemed appropriate for the list haha
    November 3 12:07 PM
  • DaveyBoy It is weird. Not that I watched the show, but 'California' was the theme for the tv series The OC. It's piano line has been borderline ripped off a few times.
    November 3 05:42 AM
  • DaveyBoy Haha. That's what "catchy" does. The guy singer is the vocalist from Phantom Planet (remember 'California'). The crazy thing is that he barely sings on any of the other LP tracks.
    November 3 05:29 AM
  • DaveyBoy Can't believe they've gone under the radar, considering they're all parts of other bands. Heard the LP and it's a bit meh actually. But the lead single is so catchy. Here it is:
    November 3 01:37 AM
  • theBoneyKing Yeah, the El Vy is definitely excellent. There are some really fantastic tunes there. You soundoff for the Martin Courtney intrigues me, sounds like I'd dig it.
    November 2 08:26 PM
  • theBoneyKing Can I get my hopes up for a Sowing review of the EL VY album?
    November 2 05:28 PM
  • DaveyBoy You heard anything by the band Phases? Unsure how big they are over there, but that lead single is super infectious. Gonna give the full LP a listen this week, but thought it would be up your alley from the grand total of 1 song that I've heard.
    October 31 04:43 AM
  • TalonsOfFire Hey Sowing, have you not heard this?

    October 26 08:33 AM
  • ftinside completely agree about that underwood album. that cigarette break song is ridiculously dull and doesn't even seem to try using her main talent - singing.
    October 25 01:05 AM
  • LordePots yeah no i ****ed up it was inappropriate
    October 24 11:38 PM
  • LordePots im not upset at u, and ur not wrong, and im sorry for airin him out in ur thread it was innapropriate, id just prefer to not have ur advice on something that u dont really know about

    October 24 10:59 PM
  • LordePots i stopped commenting in your review so keep ur 2 cents to yourself

  • JohnnyOnTheSpot i've got it downloaded i think; haven't heard yet, but i plan on it
    October 24 05:00 PM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot this Stara Rzeka album is my fav folk of 2015. might not be your style for the genre, but give it a try (?)
    October 24 04:28 PM
  • SweeneyTodd Your ocean avenue review made me genuinely cry (in the good way)
    October 20 06:40 PM
  • Toondude10 can't wait for the new Mutmath album? :D
    October 20 08:25 AM
  • Frippertronics their newest one has a retro 80-ish dance/funk/pop, etc. feel to it
    October 20 08:02 AM
  • Frippertronics Sowing bro, you check the new Neon Indian? That seems like it'd be right up your alley.
    October 20 07:22 AM
  • Jacquibim Hey Sowing pls check my Ludovico review I'm eager to hear your thoughts, hi btw
    October 20 05:15 AM
  • ExplosiveOranges more or less the same thing, haha. i basically ended up taking a hiatus from reviewing over the summer, so i'm trying my best to pump out new reviews as frequently as i can nowadays.
    October 16 11:39 PM
  • ExplosiveOranges sowing dude what's up
    October 16 09:50 PM
  • Gyromania also i wish sputnik didn't have a word limit on shoutbox posts. they should implement a 'read more' tab after the cutoff period instead of making users post multiple times. makes the shoutbox look so cluttered
    October 16 04:00 PM
  • Gyromania massive disappointment for me when i first heard it. it all sounded so spaced out and boring. i remember calling the album nondescript. but now that i've played it about a dozen or so times, i think it's a masterpiece. it sounds like an album i've been listening to for years - even before i fell in love listening to it felt incredibly nostalgic. there must be at least a handful of songs you enjoy off of depression cherry and thank your lucky stars
    October 16 03:55 PM
  • Gyromania after my mother's passing i obsessed over carrie and lowell, otherwise i might be able to see why people think that. i think in sufjan's case a lot of people got on board around the time illinois or adz was coming out and weren't acclimated to his folksy stuff. i personally think that album is a masterpiece and his best album, which is high praise indeed concerning my opinion of sufjan's music. in the case of beach house, i think it just takes time. depression cherry was a

  • Gyromania ugh
    October 16 03:03 PM
  • FLCL Deja Entendu and The Devil and God. Loved them both, especially the devil and God. But honestly I haven't paid enough attention to the lyrics yet. Favorite track is definitely sowing season (now I get your name)
    October 13 08:59 AM
  • FLCL I listened to brand new for the first time recently, really fantastic stuff
    October 11 12:29 PM
  • FLCL Do you rate everything you listen to? With that many reviews I'd expect you to have heard a ton of albums
    October 8 01:37 PM
  • Toondude10 new Coheed and Cambria leaked! m/
    October 6 10:46 PM
  • klap No worries Loud City is probs my least favorite Holter despite all the praise it got here. The new one is my fave and Ekstasis is really great as well
    October 5 08:12 PM
  • DaveyBoy While we are continuing to swap female vocalist recos, I have a strange one for you: Melanie Martinez. A cross between Lana

    September 28 02:48 PM
  • theBoneyKing I love Mellon Collie, though I've never heard any other full Pumpkins albums. I'll give Silversun Pickups a listen.
    September 28 05:31 AM
  • theBoneyKing Would I dig that Silversun Pickups album? I'd never heard of them before the other day but they sound like they might be up my alley.
    September 27 06:14 AM
  • Tyrael Ah yeah, it's pretty good. Will you be reviewing it? :)
    September 26 06:57 PM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot not sure I wanna pester him tbh so I'll just keep my ear to the ground

    September 18 11:52 AM
  • Toondude10 in any case, I cant' wait to read your 1.5 review for it ;-)
    September 18 11:52 AM
  • ellagos Fair enough I can feel it slipping for me slightly as well, Colors was the best track on there for me tho haha
    September 18 09:13 AM
  • Toondude10 It is their weakest though, easily. I guess some could make the excuse that they're trying something different but even then bands of the same genre are doing the exact same thing. The first two songs and Outcast are probably my top 3. I thought those were decent.
    September 18 08:38 AM
  • Toondude10 it's actually not as bad as I thought it would be, it's more or less that most of the songs are just average. The first two songs are good though.
    September 18 07:42 AM
  • Toondude10 that new Shinedown album got leaked, though I'm not sure that's really worth noting considering it comes out tomorrow.
    September 17 08:40 PM
  • ellagos why the backflip on Halsey man haha?
    September 16 10:10 AM
  • DaveyBoy A serious talent if she doesn't follow what's cool, so to speak
    September 13 06:59 AM
  • theBoneyKing Yeah, our tastes definitely align quite a bit. I always make a point to check out your reviews. I came to Sputnik mostly because of reviews linked to Metacritic and the ones I would see were almost exclusively yours and klap's, since you're pretty much the only staffers whose preferences are similar to mine, lol.
    September 12 04:52 PM
  • Toondude10 I love the atmosphere on both songs, not a big fan of the vocals though.
    September 12 04:13 PM
  • Toondude10 okay okay jeez, I'll listen to them just hold your horses :P
    September 12 04:05 PM
  • Toondude10 the second single was decent, cheesy but not bad at all. I'd say listen to it if you haven't. Never heard of Silversun Pickups though.
    September 12 04:00 PM
  • Toondude10 In the meantime I'm still (kinda) psyched for that new Coheed album.
    September 12 03:51 PM
  • Toondude10 Really? I feel like they're right up your alley but to each their own I guess.
    September 12 03:41 PM
  • theBoneyKing Thanks for the Chvrches rec man! Loving that album right now, excited to hear the new one.
    September 12 01:26 PM

    August 23 01:18 PM
  • theBoneyKing Dropping by to say I already listened to a few Halsey songs and they're great, especially New Americana. Thanks for the rec! I'll definitely listen to the whole album when it drops on Friday (I don't do leaks).
    August 23 09:50 AM
  • theBoneyKing I'm not a fan of what I've heard of FKA twigs (though that's only a couple songs) but I'd be willing to give her another try. Will check the others too probs.
    August 22 12:02 PM
  • Toondude10 You know I couldn't help but notice you didn't rate the newer AVA record.

    August 9 07:45 PM

    August 2 08:35 AM
  • theBoneyKing Nice rating for Being There. It's not necessarily underrated but definitely underappreciated.
    August 2 07:31 AM
  • klap hahaha i only gave the monitor a 3.5 and pretty much only bc of one song. not my cup of tea
    July 31 02:11 AM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot i've yet to take out a student loan and would like to avoid if at all possible, but yeah it's hard work balancing school, work, and family
    July 29 09:44 PM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot literally refreshing the chelsea wolfe Facebook page to see when Abyss streams so i can put up a review tbh. in general, mostly trying to pinch my pennies before school in the fall

  • Toondude10 You gonna review that new Coheed and Cambria album?
    July 29 08:24 PM
  • BigHans dude if youre not going to review Highly Suspect see if you can get mine featured. I don't care about the attention, I just want the band to get exposure because it ****ing goes hard.
    July 29 05:36 PM
  • BigHans That's hilarious
    July 29 04:53 PM
  • BigHans Question. I know it has to be a joke, but how in the ever-loving **** did Academy make staff?
    July 29 03:54 PM
  • wtferrothorn Hey Sowing, I have a feeling you'd like the new Field Music record. It's some pretty chill Indie Rock that acts as the soundtrack to a 1920's silent documentary.
    July 26 01:34 AM
  • Toondude10 quick rec, have you heard of Poets of the Fall. they sound like they'd be right up your alley.
    July 17 03:14 PM
  • tiesthatbind Yeah, it's really good. It's actually the first full Sufjan album I've listened to, but it really clicked with me right away and keeps getting better the more I listen to it.
    July 12 01:12 AM
  • Dylan620 Hey Sowing! I'm not sure whether or not you've heard of The Weakerthans, but their album Left and Leaving is fantastic and I think you'd really enjoy it.
    July 8 01:33 PM
  • MyNameIsPencil FYI I've been a huge Incubus since I was like, 7.
    July 8 02:11 AM
  • Toondude10 I think this is something you would like.
    July 7 08:30 PM
  • ComeToDaddy I can imagine it would, if I managed to single-handedly bring a band into the sput spotlight and saw people 5 it I would be over the moon. Definitely something I'd like to do eventually
    July 5 03:02 AM

  • idontcareaboutthis you should check out steve goodman. someone else's troubles is a great album and is right up your alley i think
    June 26 01:38 AM
  • BigHans haha. That Analyzer ruse was fun. Chan just had to blow it up, cause he was a dick sometimes.
    June 25 08:45 AM
  • Mrjohnsini I must admit... I discovered Low Roar after reading your incredible review for 0. So, I owe you a bit of a thank you. ;) Been a fan ever since.
    June 24 04:28 PM

    June 23 08:21 AM

    June 23 08:17 AM
  • Jacquibim Yo Sowing where's my interim performance review this contrib tag is grindin me gears
    June 23 08:15 AM
  • ProjectFreak Right on. Let me know if you end up there. Not gonna lie, it's a quiet, pretty dull town, but the local bands are all weirdly good.
    June 22 06:55 AM
  • ProjectFreak No joke. Born and raised. Now I'm in South Florida. You get a teaching job up there or something?
    June 21 09:06 AM
  • Rowan5215 loved that too - Dead Men Stood Together is epic
    June 19 06:39 AM
  • Frippertronics Thanks for checking out that Enid review, was a bit worried I was rusty on the hinges when it came to writing, but from the looks of it, I suppose not.
    June 19 06:28 AM
  • Rowan5215 they sound like Manchester Orchestra playing Underoath songs, it's so good. I'll check it after Veruna, I got their whole discog
    June 19 01:06 AM
  • Rowan5215 so I'm loving His Old Branches especially the title track, goes so hard, will check Veruna next
    June 19 12:50 AM
  • Feather I forgot to report to you on MeWithoutYou. I am really enjoying them so far. It is going to take awhile for the songs to actually sink in and for me to really know them though. So much material to absorb. I love their sound though. Brother, Sister and Ten Stories were both awesome upon first listen, the former standing out a little more. I have yet to listen to Pale Horses, but you're review of it was awesome and it was really cool getting your background on them.
    June 18 01:14 PM
  • klap word, review had piqued my interest anyways :0
    June 18 12:46 PM
  • heyadam You could tell that Aaron wasn't completely 100% sold into the writing process this time around which could account for that "worn-out" feeling you were talking about. Dude has such a lot going on haha. Great review though! I've been trying to write mine for a few days now, but your onion analogy was really fitting; this album just keeps coming in layers. I need to spend some more time with it
    June 17 11:43 PM
  • heyadam Dunno if you've seen this, but it gives some points about the new mewithoutYou record that you brought up in your review a lot of credence. A super interesting interview, nonetheless.
    June 17 11:02 PM
  • Dylan620 I've heard all those songs except for "Muscle Museum" and they're great. My favorites from the incomplete selection I've heard would have to be "Ruled by Secrecy," "Stockholm Syndrome," "New Born" and "City of Delusion." And I'm looking forward to that list, it'll make a nice counterpart to Insurrection's about their worst songs :P
    June 16 11:08 PM
  • Toondude10 DAMNIT, I was late on the review. I could've posted it like 12 hours ago but I HAD to wait until someone would proofread it for me XD. It was a good review though.
    June 16 10:48 PM
  • Toondude10 to be fair, it's not going to change your opinion about the band. It's more or less saying that they're still the band that the fans love, which is totally fine. I have it a 4 because of nostalgia but my review has it at 3.5
    June 16 10:32 PM
  • Toondude10 yeah it is. I've already written my Breaking Benjamin review (cuz why the **** not) and I am awaiting for someone to proofread it.
    June 16 10:29 PM
  • Dylan620 Hey Sowing, I was wondering what your top 5 Muse tracks were? I remember from your Drones review that "Reapers" would make the cut, and I've been getting into them lately
    June 16 02:31 PM
  • Toondude10 so how's that MWY review coming?
    June 16 01:37 PM
  • Rowan5215 Pale Horses review is up now
    June 15 11:24 AM
  • JWT155 Go listen to the XX!
    June 12 11:34 AM

    June 11 07:29 AM
  • Toondude10 Pale Horse streamed! SQUEEEEEEE!
    June 10 01:05 PM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot good, our son just turned 3. aside from that, gearing up for another year at Uni starting in the fall. working on my education degree, trying to support the family as well, a bit stressful but will pay off
    June 9 10:12 PM
  • Toondude10 I did but didn't get the promotion. Maybe next time, not to mention I'm on a "one review per month" policy right now due to a couple personal things and they're recently looking for people who contribute more to the site recently as far as I'm aware.
    June 9 09:49 PM
  • Toondude10 hahahaha, who knows maybe a contributor could take it off your hands XP
    June 9 09:44 PM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot congrats on that too
    June 9 09:43 PM
  • Toondude10 Don't forget Breaking Benjamin, well for me at least XP. Speaking of which who's doing the review for that, you or Davey?
    June 9 09:42 PM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot congrats on the engagement (iirc)
    June 9 09:41 PM
  • Toondude10 I just might just do a review on Pale Horse if I feel like it. :) This month is going to be crazy.
    June 9 09:39 PM
  • Toondude10 Agreed. I still like it, but it doesn't hit me as hard as their other albums. Though I enjoyed Ten Stories more than I thought it was going to, I kinda expected to rate it the same as It's All Crazy but wow that was great. Btw, did you listen to that D-Minor song yet?
    June 9 09:35 PM
  • Toondude10 B,S obviously, but a close seconds has to go to Catch Us for the Foxes. Haven't listened to that one in a while though.
    June 9 09:29 PM
  • Toondude10 Finally listened to all of the MWY albums and the new album is next week. My body is ready.
    June 9 09:21 PM
  • Kupasexy15 Thanks, my pc is really old and really fragile. My master's thesis is on it. I can't afford it dying.
    June 9 12:41 AM
  • Frippertronics if you're interested
    June 7 06:20 AM
  • dimsim3478 it definitely blasts through the wall, being that it is much more punk-heavy than Local Business
    June 4 07:34 PM
  • dimsim3478 my impression of it from listening on the train this morning was basically HOLY SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT but of course it neeeds more time to sink in
    June 4 07:12 PM
  • dimsim3478 nah it's a wise precaution, there's just very little chance of getting caught (for nowwwwww), especially if you're using private sites or soulseek
    June 4 06:59 PM
  • dimsim3478 scared of getting caught out for piracy?
    June 4 06:37 PM
  • Toondude10 lol, I'm going to be honest I'm not too keen on their earlier material. I'm not too much into the cookie-cutter Radiohead sound they had back then.
    June 4 01:20 PM
  • Toondude10 lol, yeah that site is great. Also, perfect summary for the review, "Your ass belongs to me now." Just a suggestion. \_(?)_/
    June 4 01:10 PM
  • Toondude10 lol, yeah. Spotify might release it tomorrow since I think UK is getting it then.
    June 4 01:07 PM
  • Toondude10 Found a stream for Drones: (enjoy it if you can)
    June 4 01:02 PM
  • Toondude10 Still haven't listened to their last two, I'll get to those at some point. I'll be sooooo sad if it ended up being a disappointment. The debut was awesome though.
    June 3 09:48 PM
  • Toondude10 Only two more weeks until the new mewithoutYou! What's you're prediction on it?
    June 3 09:45 PM
  • Toondude10 Lol, I honestly really enjoyed 2nd Law, granted it's very disjointed and the dubstep parts are obnoxious as hell but all in all I thought it was a fun listen.
    June 3 09:16 AM
  • DaveyBoy Mate, it leaked about 6 weeks ago. I gave it a casual listen back then, but will get back to it soon. It was a strange leak, in that it couldn't seem to be transferred to anywhere but where you dl'd it.
    June 3 08:35 AM
  • Feather Good point, I guess its just a matter of finding the time and making an effort to do it.
    May 29 10:55 AM
  • Dylan620 Is it bad that whenever I read one of your reviews, I read it in T-Swift's voice?
    May 28 09:32 PM
  • barcafan21 hey, just curious as to what you thought of vessel and how you think it compares to blurryface. thanks! :)
    May 28 05:13 PM
  • Feather Serious question sowing. how do you find the time to find new music, listen to it and review it (extremely well) so frequently? Do you have a job where you can listen to music all day? I'm just curious (and jealous) how you are able to find the time.

  • trackbytrackreviews I wouldn't know. I feel sometimes 5 are too sacred around the site. Just because I rate someone a classic doesn't mean that it's in my top 10 albums of all time...

  • Atari hi sowing, not sure if you have the power to do so, but the new early november album could use a feature!
    May 20 04:03 PM
  • Onirium Yeah, his new album is great and brings a lot of new ideas to his usual sound, but his previous releases are much more focused - adding an atmospheric element was nice, but his voice is already aerial enough in my opinion - and have that folk twist I figured you might dig. Adventures in Your Own Backyard and Wooden Arms are especially brilliant albums. ||| |||

  • DaveyBoy Also, I'm going away for a few days mid next week. If you've been fostering a Sputnik Discusses topic of your own, now would be the time to strike?
    April 29 08:49 PM
  • DaveyBoy I won't officially claim it just yet. Tbh, it might depend on how early it leaks. My main concern is that it will be just another BB review for just another BB album. I might end up plagiarizing my Dear Agony review.
    April 29 04:31 AM
