  • SowingSeason Miss you around these parts Davey, hope you return soon to review pop and indie with me!
    September 26 05:37 AM
  • ExplosiveOranges You still there, man?
    September 24 02:31 PM
  • Fugue Ahh Saint's'll be fine. Shaped up into a decent transfer window after all imo. Seen Anberlin yet? I'd be interested in your thoughts of the performance. Maybe you could make a list of something...
    September 7 05:30 AM
  • HBFS Ah that sucks! Hopefully you get back into it soon! And yeah, the pies were decimated this year. It's been okay for me though as I've been travelling this year and didn't have to stay in Melbourne where it's all I would hear about!
    September 3 10:26 AM
  • HBFS Hey Davey! Long time no talk, mate. I'm sure you're very happy with your Kangas making the finals. As a Collingwood supporter I can say that I'm gutted with how our season turned out. Time to focus on EPL now for me, haha. Hope all is well!
    August 30 02:16 PM
  • tempest-- are you still alive and kicking, Davey?? idk if you jam Kate Miller-Heidke but she released a new album a little while ago and it's a cracker! worth a listen or two
    August 19 11:57 AM
  • Fugue Made a fantasy team about a month ago and will join the league, although having just logged in I've realised about half my team is now injured so I can't promise to be any meaningful competition though! Lets all hope Southampton smash Liverpool tomorrow though, eh?
    August 16 04:58 PM
  • Fugue I know exactly what you mean in terms of going off music, although I have nothing like computer problems or a newly born daughter as an excuse so I'm worrying it might be permanent. I'm doing okay thank you, although my life in general seems to be stalling somewhat.. I'm hoping to get back on track by getting a new job but the process is just a pain in the ass.
    August 16 04:57 PM
  • AliW1993 Cautiously optimistic about Newcastle. We've done some excellent business, but we still look a little light up front, and the defense is worrying. Should get top half minimum though.
    August 16 06:05 AM
  • AliW1993 I think you'll be alright, the remainder of the squad is much better than most seem to realise, and you've made some decent signings (though 12m for Shane Long is laughable). Mid-table, maybe top half at a push.
    August 16 06:03 AM
  • AliW1993 Will do. How are you feeling about Southampton this year?
    August 14 12:56 PM
  • Fugue How's it going AussieBoy?
    August 8 06:08 PM
  • Thunderkat I have a question, is there a possibility to change my Username? Oh would I have to make a new profile? How does that work? Thank you!
    July 18 12:13 AM
  • SuperstitionFantasy Hey, I was wondering if you could give an opinion on the new Blood on the Dance Floor album? It'd be awesome to see your take on it because I may have rated my review too high. :P
    June 10 10:40 PM
  • Douglas No worries mate, that would be driving me crazy! Hope life is treating you grand my friend!
    May 6 06:01 PM
  • Douglas hey mate, hows life? just a quick one. The band I gig with in melbs just released an EP, any chance you want to have listen and chuck some words on it? It's a john mayer/josh pyke vibe http://paulreid.bandcamp.com/album/vines

  • skoopy48 I so agree, tis a shame they called it quits, glad you enjoyed it.
    April 24 04:08 PM
  • Brostep Thanks! Same here, sitting pretty up there with my favorite releases of 2014 thus far.
    April 5 07:28 PM
  • thelastsignal hey friend, if you don't mind checking out my latest review, I would really appreciate any feedback. no worries if not! :)
    April 1 02:38 PM
  • schoonda If you're interested, Ceres debut is out now.http://hobbledehoy.bandcamp.com/album/i-dont-want-to-be-anywhere-but-here
    March 24 07:55 AM
  • Thunderkat Just curious, how does one become staff?
    March 23 02:14 AM
  • Fugue Can never get profile pics to work properly... managed to get this one working though so that's a plus. Cuter chick too.
    March 19 06:57 PM
  • Fugue Hey StaffyBoy, do you know if user name change thingymajigs are or ever have been a thing. Mine's a bit immature for my liking these days, what with me being a stand up member of the community and all that.
    March 18 07:53 PM
  • ASnideReturns Haha, yeahh it's a doozy lol.
    March 17 11:47 AM
  • ASnideReturns Hey Davey, I'm kinda interested in hearing what you think about my review - http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/61473/Black-Veil-Brides-Set-The-World-On-Fire/
    March 16 06:56 PM
  • Waior wanna hear your thoughts, mate. you were properly constructive last time: calebmcalpine.bandcamp.com
    March 15 05:03 AM
  • Guzzo10 Thank you sir! And yeah, that's understandable from your point of view. For me, On the Impossible Past was as close to a classic as possible. Maybe its an American thing, I dunno haha.
    March 14 02:25 PM
  • Guzzo10 Hey, I know we've never really conversed before, but you've always been one of my favorite reviewers here. Probably because of your taste for the same alt rock/pop-punk as me, but I was wondering if you could hook me up with some recs. Along the lines of Menzingers/TSSF/Captain, We're Sinking if you could. Also, thoughts on Menzingers upcoming LP?
    March 14 01:34 AM
  • schoonda 150 minutes, that's cutting it a 'little' short from the promised 3 hours is it not? I still found it ridiculous to give them 3 in the first place, surely 2 would be good enough? I think the main reason I didn't see them is because of the downward slope they have been on, I made an assumption that they'd play quite an amount of their new albums, which I have never really taken any interest in. Also, I really didn't want to miss the Jason Butler show that is letlive.
    March 4 05:22 PM
  • schoonda Was it just me or was the sound a bit dodgy on that stage? When I was watching Finch the sound seemed quite off. I don't find that surprising, still a very young band I guess. How was Green Day? I don't think I could have lasted that 3 hour set!
    March 3 07:52 PM
  • schoonda You got a lot more out of my day than I did thats for sure. How was The Story So Far? Wanted to check them out but my mate wanted to see another band. I thought AFI put on a pretty good set, managed to see a teacher from my old high school in the moshpit!
    March 3 05:59 AM
  • schoonda Glad you enjoyed them, caught the last 15 minutes of their set, was happy. Who else did you catch?
    March 2 05:17 PM
  • AliW1993 Ha! I absolutely despise Allardyce, but he knows how to conduct himself on the touchline... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9k4zvAEFc0
    March 2 07:06 AM
  • AliW1993 Yeah I can definitely see him being hit for the rest of the season, especially since he was warned over his future conduct less than two months ago. I don't think there's any question of it being premeditated to be honest; he clearly just can't control himself on the touchline. Don't get me wrong, it looks bad and sends out a terrible message... though as a fan of the club I found him calling Pellegrini a "****ing old ****" equally, if not more embarrassing.
    March 1 09:26 PM
  • AliW1993 I've kind of got mixed feelings about it all. Obviously he's completely in the wrong and deserves a ban and fine, but for me the whole thing's been blown out of proportion. Personally I don't think the punishment should be any worse than for a player, but of course the problem now is that he can't really discipline the squad having done that himself. All a bit of a mess...
    March 1 08:55 PM
  • TooLateToGoBack They should, hah. It's everything Killing Time was, but better.
    February 22 09:55 PM
  • schoonda I'd struggle to describe it well. My music knowledge isn't quite as extensive as yours, however on the reviews page of their unearthed page, Stu Harvey of JJJ describes them as " Blurring the lines of rock, punk and grunge, Ceres is worth checking out if you're a fan of Daylight, Balance and Composure". So if thats your thing, probably worth checking out.
    February 19 06:19 PM
  • schoonda Davey! Have you heard of Melbourne band Ceres? They are playing the unearthed set at Melbourne SW, I have a feeling you'd really enjoy their stuff.
    February 19 06:23 AM
  • TooLateToGoBack That new Bayside record is so damn good. Probably their magnum opus, imo. I don't think they'll ever make a "classic", and I'm okay with that, so this is the next best thing.
    February 18 11:03 PM
  • klap you doing jezabels right?
    February 17 02:10 PM
  • TooLateToGoBack Sweet, I'll give them a listen -- I also see they just released a new album; sound great from your review. Oh, and I wanted to also drop you a recommendation: http://oldmancanyon.bandcamp.com/Very good Canadian poppy-folk
    February 13 06:26 PM
  • ASnideReturns I thought I should bring this to your attention Davey - http://www.sputnikmusic.com/news/30091/Illumi-Naughty-Debut-Song/
    February 13 12:10 AM
  • LordePots ""lol no it's holy" says your 666th comment!!!" gonna have to let that just chill like that for a bit i think
    February 11 08:16 AM
  • WatchItExplode Did you at least get an advance copy? More Bayside by numbers?
    February 10 05:57 PM
  • WatchItExplode Hey Davey, are you gonna review the new Bayside soon?
    February 10 05:33 PM
  • TooLateToGoBack Also, shout spam, but great 2013 list. Props for placing Local Natives so high - they don't get the love they deserve here - or elsewhere, for that matter. I will say that your placement - and general inclusion of BVB is...questionable, hah.
    February 2 09:45 AM
  • TooLateToGoBack I recall ragging on The End - noting it was "sterile", especially for a group like The Jezabels, but I've definitely grown to really liking it a lot. I dunno, maybe it'll grow on me, and I'll end up really liking it 8 months later like that Misery Signals album from last year!
    February 2 09:43 AM
  • TooLateToGoBack The album definitely comes off like a slow burn - but I'm slowly warming up to it. I'm really enjoying the title track and Psychotherapy but each time I try and sit through the entire album -- all I really want to do is go back and listen to "Prisoner". It's a shame, cause "Prisoner" blew me away the first time I heard it - and still does to this day, but "The Brink" is just "okay" and pretty big disappointment the more I think about it.
    February 2 09:41 AM
  • skoopy48 You really need to hear the latest Life On Repeat album, it's right up your alley.
    January 28 10:48 PM
  • Ponton "river" is usually the attention grabber so give her a go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3k7ZC0-4qE
    January 24 09:51 PM
  • Ponton havent used torrents in years, may make an exception. also theres a chance you may like my dig/avatar/latest review. at the very least youll find a number of good tunes there.
    January 24 09:36 PM
  • iGuter Oh yeah, I read your review and I see our thoughts are pretty much identical.
    January 24 09:01 PM
  • schoonda had a few listens to a few of Living Colour's stuff on youtube, gotta say, pretty groovy, different to my usual style, but on the list for sure.
    January 24 06:44 AM
  • schoonda Sounds like a really cool style, I'll have a look, cheers mate.
    January 24 05:42 AM
  • schoonda Well you've got my attention now, I may have to check them out, what do they sound design like? Yes I believe that is correct actually, the video for that was released on their vevo Page the other day.
    January 24 05:10 AM
  • schoonda I'm still undecided on whether I want to go, would be keen to see glassjaw and letlive, however I think they might have a sideshow together (finch too maybe?) Never really got to check out Alter Bridge, haven't heard of Living Colour, worth checking out? Satellite was the first song they released, not sure if it was lead single.
    January 24 01:50 AM
  • schoonda Hmmm maybe I need to give it a couple more chances, I think when I first heard Satellite it really through me off, it just felt odd at first. That being said I really enjoy Think It Over. Also, are you going to SW this year?
    January 23 06:54 PM
  • iGuter I'm actually going to read your review after I write this. I actually thought Mind Over Matter was a step up from their last album in some ways, but not in every way. When Young the Giant said that the album was a more mature album, I completely agreed. I think it's also a more realized and truer album then the last and the so-called inconsistencies (that I really didn't have a problem with) are fixed in regards to the bitchy critics on their debut. But it is a bit too long.
    January 22 08:45 PM
  • TooLateToGoBack Listen to the new Jezabels record by any chance? I miss the epic and grandiose songs like "Prisoner" and "Hurt Me", which is disappointing, and I think songs like "Time To Dance" and "Beat to Beat" are straight up duds, for the most part. Maybe it's because of huge standard "Prisoner" set, or maybe it needs time to grow, but the album just isn't doing much for me :/
    January 21 07:30 PM
  • schoonda Still haven't properly checked that out yet either! If it makes you feel better Canterbury's only dropped a few days ago. However not too sure on it, it has a different sound from Heavy in the Day. Also, have you heard of Blitz Kids? Their new album would be up your alley I think.
    January 16 04:23 AM
  • schoonda heard Canterbury's latest? Haven't heard their first, but a big fan of Heavy in the Day, not too keen on the new album.
    January 15 11:58 PM
  • Omaha Hehe. The band actually emailed me! They liked my last review so much that they somehow found my personal Gmail account. ;] It's great stuff, man. I'll have a review up in about a week or so. Will we be getting a Davey review anytime soon?
    January 11 12:26 AM
  • Jom Too busy with the blog post!
    December 27 11:19 PM
  • TooLateToGoBack Doing a year end of list anytime soon, Davey? Guessing Hands Like Houses is gonna be somewhere in the top 10? hah
    December 27 05:46 PM
  • Prince1993 thanks for the reply mate.I really don't know who did it. I've never been to the forum before.I made a skype premium accounts giveaway thread and they banned me lol.. no body like free stuff I guess
    December 22 02:58 AM
  • Prince1993 Hey, how you doin mate?I was wondering who I have to talk about lifting my ban from the forum. It's a really big misunderstanding.
    December 21 11:16 PM
  • Fugue so yeah, recs? Or you been so out of it this year you don't have any?
    December 7 01:07 PM
  • Fugue Ahh come now, there's far worse than One Direction out there.
    November 30 06:33 PM
  • Fugue I guess so, it's not too bad it's just that I think I can do better, but it'll do for now. So have you got a little DaveyBoy or a little DaveyGirl? Must be a pretty awesome experience either way, although undoubtedly knackering!
    November 28 01:01 PM
  • Fugue Yeah sounds fair enough I guess, just beat Chelsea at the weekend please. I'm good too thanks, settled in a job with no prospects, but at least that means I can look for a better one with at least some money coming in, and I now have a little more time for music again. A new arrival? If that means what I think it does then congratulations pal!
    November 25 03:09 PM
  • Fugue ****ing cricket
    November 24 09:05 AM
  • Fugue Hey dude how's it going?
    November 24 09:01 AM
  • TooLateToGoBack Listen to the new I See Stars by any chance? lol
    October 25 01:16 AM
  • TooLateToGoBack Any plans to review the new Hands Like Houses album? I see you're quite the fan of the album.
    October 20 11:36 PM
  • SadAndHolyGlow Good to see someone else who really likes "Feel" by Sleeping with Sirens. That album is unfairly hated. I guess I UNDERSTAND the hate, but I strongly disagree with it.
    October 18 08:11 PM
  • DecayingMajesty sup
    September 7 10:01 AM
  • Deviant. Yeah, I never got into them (or were even aware of them) until they started getting stadium famous, but now I'm pretty much hooked
    September 3 08:37 PM
  • schoonda it's pretty diverse in the sound they have, better than most EPs, however I wish they had more songs that were similar to Sex EP (You, Milk)
    September 3 07:20 PM
  • schoonda checked out the 1975's debut yet?
    September 3 07:29 AM
  • Douglas Hey mate, sorry have been in the wilderness, I am not really much of a fan of Vance Joy so can't really comment on his story sorry mate
    August 22 12:42 AM
  • SowingSeason Of course I'm in charge of music! And you're actually right about the deeper meaning, I knew I wouldn't be able to write as many reviews with all the changes happening, and when I do have free time, it is always put towards something less fun now :-(
    August 6 12:00 PM
  • Captain North Finally listened to the new Editors, probably their best album. Lyrics are mostly awful, but instruments and his voice are great. The middle part of the album in particular is fantastic, it drops off a bit at the end. What is This Thing Called Love is probably the best song they've ever written
    August 6 06:39 AM
  • AliW1993 Yeah I'd meant to review it sooner, but never got around to it. I doubt it would have generated much interest anyway, to be fair.
    July 29 03:48 AM
  • AliW1993 I see you rated the new Frankie
    July 28 06:20 PM
  • Cygnatti are you gonna review the dangerous summer's new album, davey?
    July 8 02:22 PM
  • Pndi I don't think so, I got a 256kbps rip (from Itunes ) that was converted to VBR mp3. Not sure if you're the one who said that, but do you know what happened during the recording process ? It's really strange that the production sounds like that whereas the EP sounded fine.
    July 7 01:08 PM
  • iGuter Oh, alright I see your bias opinion on their change, great insight.
    June 11 03:57 PM
  • Omaha It's pretty great, but I don't see it sticking with me like it has with you. It may be around 8th for me, I don't know-- there have been so many fantastic releases this year that it has a ton of competition.
    May 30 10:38 PM
  • Omaha Yo, pleased to see you like K Sera so much! Maybe they'll end up on the staffers' 2013 if we're vocal enough ;]
    May 29 01:23 PM
  • iGuter I've got to ask you man. Didn't you think the last I See Stars album sounded more solid and refined then their previous albums. It was heavier, progressed a little more and was far more confident. Granted, it's not great or anything, but I thought it was good and a little better than average. I'd be more proud to say that they're revolutionizing "electronicore" (not to proud of that word in music today) better than most bands out there. Cough cough Attack Attack!
    May 23 04:11 PM
  • schoonda are you seeing funeral for a friend tomorrow night davey?
    May 13 07:26 AM
  • AmericnZero02 Oh jeez, I feel like I'm becoming one of those jaded elitist music fans now.
    May 12 04:54 PM
  • fish. I think it's streaming somewhere. I'm gonna try to review it if I feel I can
    May 2 07:47 PM
  • fish. Have you heard Arcane Roots? I get the feeling they'd be right up your street
    May 2 11:59 AM
  • Willie No problem. Just giving you the option.
    April 23 04:17 PM
  • CaptainHadouken Well they have it on amazon as well, but good god trying to find an album stream is a freaking a pain.
    April 23 10:05 AM
  • CaptainHadouken Yeah it can be a pain in the ass, but living in europe it was a lifesaver trying to get music due to the whole out of country music laws online. I'll look around for another source.
    April 23 09:57 AM
  • CaptainHadouken For Vesper belle?, believe it or not it was on I-tunes
    April 23 09:07 AM
  • Willie Want to do an e-mail interview with Super Water Sympathy?
    April 22 04:03 PM
  • schoonda by the way, check out the 1975, deaf havana have been talking them up a bit, and their debut is due later this year.
    April 22 05:58 AM
  • schoonda glad you're enjoying it, they are exceptional and i think they will go far, with plenty of support from Radio. However, as you said, EP and LP are on par, the replay value for me on both isnt as fantastic as i would like to hope.
    April 22 05:57 AM
  • schoonda see you've been listening to mallory knox's debut, thoughts?
    April 21 02:29 AM
  • Hep Kat i think you would enjoy this: http://peeplewatchin.bandcamp.com/

    April 3 04:59 AM
  • NocteDominum You'll have to read my review, I just got to wait for Alex B. to drop his dib so I can post it (approx 1100 words : /)
    April 3 04:41 AM
  • NocteDominum Hey dude, Pt.2 is going to confuse you more than pt.1
    April 2 07:55 PM
  • ReturnToRock Hey Davester, I know you like punk pop and I just discovered these guys, who don't bore me like most other current bands of the genre. Maybe it's because they sound less emo and more like MxPx (A LOT like MxPx, in fact) or New Found Glory. Anyway, they have two of their four releases up for free download, so check them out: http://therealdanger.bandcamp.com/
    March 25 07:33 AM
  • ReturnToRock I literally just made the connection between your username and the British Bulldog being in your profile image yesterday. LOL I'm an idiot.
    March 23 12:01 PM
  • NocteDominum I've been lookin' no luck though. Til then back to the black metal I go. Help me out if you find one?
    March 20 07:54 AM
  • NocteDominum Me neither, I was hoping you guys had a promo I could 'borrow'?
    March 20 05:06 AM
  • skoopy48 Hey Davey you should check out the band Brighten for pop punk ish stuff. They started out rockier but are now pretty much acoustic. Still I've been digging their stuff lately
    March 19 10:40 PM
  • NocteDominum part 1 or two?
    March 18 05:36 PM
  • NocteDominum Nice sstone sour rates ; ]
    March 18 07:36 AM
  • schoonda Davey! i need some post hardcore recos! enjoy soundwave?
    March 13 07:11 AM
  • NocteDominum A combination of no lunch, huge croud, the sun was blasting the moisture out of the air and three shirts on lol (shoulda known better) still held onto the drumstick i managed to catch beforehand though. I have no recollection of being pulled over the barrier and found myself on a stretcher in the aid tent
    February 25 07:13 AM
  • NocteDominum Yeah I remeber it's one of your usuals, I'll be doing what I can but considering I was unconcious for the start of Stone Sour things might come up a little hazy
    February 25 06:54 AM
  • NocteDominum Are you doing a show review or something?
    February 24 09:04 PM
  • NocteDominum Thanks dude, doesnt mean im going to stop aiming. Have yiu had your Soundwave yet, stay away from flairs
    February 24 04:22 PM
  • andcas well darn. I have to put up with a few miscreants around these parts at times but other than that I'm pretty straight laced on here. I guess 2 or 3 nods is better than none.
    February 24 06:33 AM
  • andcas I appreciate the mention. any insight as to why I was passed over in the end?
    February 24 06:08 AM
  • andcas interesting outcome of the deliberations. hopefully I make it next time.
    February 24 04:32 AM
  • Curse. If you haven't yet, check out Untamed Beast by Sallie Ford and The Sounds Outside. You should dig it.
    February 22 06:24 PM
  • NocteDominum In the same boat, most of the bands i wanted to see are either dropping out or kicking out members.
    February 21 03:42 PM
  • NocteDominum You SoundWaving man??
    February 20 10:39 PM
  • dimsim3478 Don't worry, the Billy Talent set will be sure to keep me scene. :)
    February 18 07:25 AM
  • TooLateToGoBack Davey, would you give The Pierces - Love You More a listen and tell me what you think? Thanks. I heard them on a UK concert show and fell in love with that track, lol.
    February 15 03:06 PM
  • schoonda Ah OK, unfortunately for you your tastes are a lot broader than mine. My main 3 in blink deaf Havana and blackout lineup nicely. Surprised to see tbo main stage?
    February 13 07:04 AM
  • schoonda Yes I saw them once back when they were here with lostprophets, travelled all the way to Sydney with my dad because I was underage! It was actually that gig that got me into heavier music. Hoping they play a lot of older stuff though. Who you plan to see on the day? :)
    February 13 06:32 AM
  • schoonda I'm glad you agree with me, I think that the album is very catchy in parts but like you said, it lacks depth and some songs sound too samey. definitely their worst but im still seeing them at soundwave.
    February 12 08:05 PM
  • andcas you should check out my latest review and the album. sure you'd like both.
    February 3 04:31 PM

    January 31 01:51 PM
  • breakingthefragile I haven't gotten around to listening to Indigo yet, but it's been in the back of my mind for a few months now. Might give it a listen today, I hear it's shares a lot in common with time travel, which I don't mind at all.
    January 30 01:03 PM
  • FelixCulpa Yeah so far she's only done that single but and ep is in the works. I found out about here on this site: http://whothehell.net/archives/17485 So far there isn't exactly much info about here but I agree there is lots of potential in her music. Maybe you could do a song of the day blog post ;)
    January 25 08:28 AM
  • joshieboy12345 http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/54599/No-Bragging-Rights-The-Consequence-of-Dreams/ Hey mate would you take a look at this review and give us an opinion? I know you are one of the top reviewers on this site. Would be appreciated. Cheers.
    January 25 12:38 AM
  • NorwichScene Just done a review for it (prob not very good, I always get slated for reviews lol)
    January 24 11:50 AM
  • FelixCulpa Sorry for the double post but this band also apparently features members from Parades! http://arrestrecordsaustralia.bandcamp.com/album/snakeface-oberon
    January 24 09:54 AM
  • FelixCulpa You've probably heard Light Giants (You know the brother from Parades band) song "Waste of Wine" but have you heard their other track? https://soundcloud.com/lightgiant (3 tracks there but the S/T one and Shint Mt. are the same.) Such an awesome song. Also since you should give this Aussie lady a listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EzK17tC1Eo
    January 24 09:51 AM
  • NorwichScene Davey.. Listen to Mallory Knox - Signals. I think you'll like it
    January 23 03:34 AM
  • fish. can we expect a scathing daveyreview?
    January 22 01:31 PM
  • fish. Have you heard The Blackout's new album? Pretty boring imo
    January 21 01:24 PM
  • SowingSeason I don't want to make any rash decisions though, so I'm going to see how everything pans out over the next few months. tl;dr verson: I stopped giving a s*** and ratings feel unimportant, so I said f everything and 2.5'd every pop-punk album ever released so that you could have all the glory when I'm inevitably axed from the staff list for being a confounded, indecisive idiot.
    January 17 09:07 PM
  • SowingSeason Nah man I appreciate what you're saying. To be honest I took a long look at my ratings and just got disgusted with how much 4.0-5.0 material I don't like anymore, then probably overcompensated for it. I've also been enjoying the perks of having a gf, and preparing for a new teaching job 1.5 hours from home. I think it has kind of made me out of touch with the site. My review quality has also been slipping, and I've been considering emeritus status as of late.
    January 17 09:05 PM
  • SowingSeason 4.5's should be reserved for the year's top album or two. My opinion did sway drastically on some albums, but Southern Air (for example) was just a case of me readjusting. Ratings all just feel so arbitrary to me now, it's hard to get a grasp on what anything really is.
    January 17 06:09 PM
  • SowingSeason It wasn't that I changed my mind by like, 2-3 points, I just readjusted how I rate what I listen to. I feel as though I have always been way too generous, 4-ing and even 4.5-ing albums that meant nothing to me a mere month later. So a lot of those albums dropped to 3's. Now, if something strikes me as above average, that's what it will get. If it sticks with me, it gets a 3.5. If it proves itself to be an exceptional work, then maybe a 4.
    January 17 06:08 PM
  • schoonda davey, have you heard of mallory knox? i think they'd be right up your alley, they are playing live on radio 1 now as i speak, their debut album drops this monday.
    January 17 02:54 PM
  • HBFS 'twas my song of the year for 2012.
    January 8 07:52 AM
  • HBFS yeah, i find it hard to resist listening to songs released before some albums. (eg. listened to all 3 foals, and all 3 this town needs guns (gonna be aoty 2013, you watch) ;) that's fair. i'm not sure which is the current single. elephant or feels like we only go backwards?
    January 8 07:06 AM
  • HBFS hey davey. hope you had a good 2012! i quite enjoyed the classic crime's album, i don't think nearly as much as you did though. did you hear tame impala's latest? and are you looking forward to new foals?
    January 8 06:42 AM
  • Deviant. This is what I would classify as commercial or mainstream drum and bass, but within the scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wt73VgEK7tQ
    January 4 11:50 PM
  • Deviant. Yeah I quite dug the vocals actually. And I wonder what this guy would be like without having anyone to bounce off, I couldn't see either of those songs working solely as instrumentals
    January 4 11:44 PM
  • Deviant. Yeah the first one was the track I heard about 30 seconds of somewhere (I think it was in a bar). I'd be lying if I said that I enjoyed it, but as far as being a really poppy take on drum and bass I suppose it could be a lot worse. Though the buzzsaw bass effects he throws in at the end of every measure a little bit grating. You're a fan?
    January 4 11:40 PM
  • SowingSeason Awesome, glad you enjoyed it. I don't know if they will get better tbh, they seem like the kind of band that will peak early with a single (We Come Running) and then fall off the face of the Earth. I hope you are right though, perhaps they have a good LP in them somewhere.
    January 4 07:58 AM
  • Deviant. I honestly can't say that the name rings a bell, nor can i admit to listening to the radio in some time. Do you have a link?
    January 4 06:20 AM
  • TheNotrap Happy new year Davey.
    December 31 06:48 PM
  • Irving 1234 ratings!! WOOHOO! XD
    December 31 02:53 AM
  • Cygnatti Well, Speak Now is easily her best album and it does not have a lot of country in it at all. Her newest album, though, is full-blown pop. I'm guessing you probably already heard I Knew You Were Trouble on the radio, so I'll give you this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHvys3BJmko
    December 29 10:53 PM
  • Cygnatti that new taylor swift album is calling your name buddy ;]
    December 29 10:29 PM
  • Cygnatti we're patiently waiting for your 2012 list, davey. ;]
    December 15 02:04 PM
  • schoonda hmm fair enough, really hope they do a sideshow too, 6 or so songs is not enough! i'm sure you have a stack of bands you plan to see? my main priorities are the blackout, deaf havana, and blink so i'm hoping there are no clashes there.
    November 24 10:35 PM
  • schoonda yeah look to be honest, it's certainly not bad, but its not great, i actually have had the chorus of running scared in my head all day yesterday.i think that as much as it will be an ok album, it won't be a 'blackout' album btw will you be seeing deaf havana at melbourne soundwave?
    November 24 04:20 PM
  • schoonda hey davey, would be interested to hear what you think of the blackouts new singles and the new direction if you will? you diggin it or a bit let down?
    November 24 07:50 AM
  • NocteDominum Cheers man, ill appreciate the opportunity if or when it may or may not show up, ready when you guys are.
    November 23 07:23 AM
  • NocteDominum Hey man, do you (or anyone) know if there's any openings for a contributing reviewer, really like to get into this.
    November 23 07:05 AM
  • Omaha Hey Davey! Are you planning on covering Matt and Toby? I'm wondering because I'll cover it if you don't.
    November 22 05:19 PM
  • ASnideRemark Hey Davey - http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/53403/Capture-the-Crown-Capture-the-Crown---Singles-EP/ You should listen to this lol
    November 19 10:19 PM
  • SowingSeason Yeah I'd give at least a few of them a quick listen. I'm sure there's even more I could have rec'd but I tried to limit it to stuff that seemed like your or my style. Got any essential recs for me?
    November 12 07:39 AM
  • AmericnZero02 The list of albums I've picked up this year is pretty slim. Anything you'd recommend I check out?
    November 11 03:22 PM
  • AmericnZero02 Alright, lets see... As far as post-hardcore stuff goes, I really liked Hands Like Houses debut. For metal: Wolves at the Gate also put out a really great debut. Alt/rock: Anberlin's new record of course. A little band from down under called Drawing North put out a solid EP this year. Showbread's new record is pretty enjoyable. I really like Broadway's new record, despite the low sputnik rating. The thing is ridiculously catchy (see our Lostprophets' "Liberation Transmission" convo).
    November 11 03:20 PM
  • SowingSeason Some other recs that I'm pretty sure you haven't heard yet and could be down your alley: Dirty Projectors - Swing Lo Magellan, Tigers on Trains - Foundry (for an even better album by them check out their debut Grandfather), The Antlers - Undersea, mewithoutYou - Ten Stories (lyrics are phenomenal), Regina Spektor (Seems like you should know about her, hopefully you've heard this!), Norah Jones - Little Broken Hearts, Geographer - Myth, Beach House - Bloom, Swans - The Seer (I had to)
    November 10 10:10 AM
  • SowingSeason Most people seem to enjoy Grizzly Bear LP, I liked the first song a lot but found the majority to be flat out boring (even though the band is talented). Definitely have a Davey-ish rec for you that I'm not sure if you've heard yet: Youngblood Hawke - EP by Youngblood Hawke (not on Sputnik but listen to "We Come Running" on youtube or DL the whole thing on itunes).
    November 10 09:59 AM
  • AliW1993 In that case the Manics and FOTL are both guaranteed hits! Probably best to go chronologically with MSP. Most people scoff at their earlier glam influences but I can't see that being a problem for you :p
    November 10 08:36 AM
  • AliW1993 I admire its ambition but it all seems a little empty to me. Pelican rules though. Also I noticed going through your ratings you have no Manic Street Preachers. Not relevant to 2012 but I'm pretty sure you'll love them.
    November 10 08:13 AM
  • AliW1993 Never liked Grizzly Bear much, don't know whether you would or not tbh. Probably worth a go. Recs.... Alt-J and Future Of The Left's new albums are both worth the hype. The Walkmen's new record is one of my aoty contenders, and although I don't particularly like it I think you'd enjoy The Maccabees' latest.
    November 10 07:01 AM
  • klap a fine frenzy - pines. off the top of my head. let me get back to you on this. never been a huge grizzly bear fan tho
    November 10 04:59 AM

  • AtavanHalen saw ellie goulding last night. fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.
    November 1 08:22 PM
  • breakingthefragile Thanks Davey! I appreciate you taking the time to tell me that, it feels good to know a writer as good as you thinks I'm doing a good job. And yeah, I've been practicing to make my reviews a bit more concise, I'll get there soon hopefully.
    October 17 02:49 PM
  • SowingSeason The iTunes tracks are slightly better than the stream, although I'll be honest I never thought the stream sounded that bad
    October 16 10:22 PM
  • SowingSeason Oh yeah that's right. I hope the stream quality isn't the same as what I downloaded from iTunes yesterday, I'd be pissed if I paid money for something inferior sounding. Anyway, i'm glad you like it.
    October 16 08:50 AM
  • SowingSeason have you heard the new anberlin yet?
    October 15 11:03 PM
  • schoonda Hey Davey, i have found this solo artist who is massively underrated and think you 'may' be interested he's the ex-drummer of UK band fei comodo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_21aV1OYE0one of the bests EPs i've heard yet he is relatively unknown.
    October 14 02:37 AM
  • Cygnatti you have a good dig, sir davey
    October 13 07:47 AM
  • aok yay or nay on anais mitchell?
    October 13 07:08 AM
  • Brostep Cool, I'll give them a shot and tell ya what I think. Thanks for the suggestions!
    October 8 10:05 PM
  • Brostep Hey man, I just checked out "Cities" by Anberlin and holy s*** I'm blown away. I've realized that that kind of music (almost pop-punky rock?) is right up my alley, so since I'm pretty new to the genre can you rec me the absolute essentials? Thanks in advance!
    October 8 08:43 AM
  • LifeAsAChipmunk okay, from here go to the band names link "colour color" : http://absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=2907282
