    October 6 11:57 PM
  • Metalstyles I actually have Man's Gin's Hymns album, and while I like it a lot, it's not quite what I'm going for atm. I'm looking for good mellow rock tunes, I'd say (man's gin is more acoustic in my books). Like Alice in Chains' "Voices", Soundgarden's "Rowing" and so on.
    October 6 06:12 PM
  • Metalstyles Hey man, since you know that kind of music like really well, do you know any good bands that sound like Alice In Chains/Soundgarden at their more mellow, laid back moments? Hoping to nail an obscure rec or two from you because I've been looking for similar good stuff for quite a while. Any suggestions are appreciated!
    October 6 05:49 PM
  • ExplosiveOranges Thanks, dude! Have you settled on a rating for it yet?

  • Wizard I see you rated Downer's s/t album a 5/5. I bought it the other day for $4.50 Canadian brand new solely on the fact I remember it surfacing back in my nu-metal days and was on Roadrunner Records. I will report back to you when I've given it a proper listen.
    August 17 12:21 AM
  • ExplosiveOranges Dat YOB rating.
    August 14 12:30 AM
  • Mad. That's reassuring, the single didn't seem too promising to me. I really hope they go more prog with the next one though, Echo Street had some astounding moments. I guess this is a step back because most of it was conceived before ES

    July 19 09:06 AM
  • fromtheinside "Their 2004 album This Type Of Thinking (Could Do Us In) remains a staple release for the genre due to its superbly maneuvered juxtaposition of heaviness and melody. Even though La Gárgola rarely reaches the dizzy heights of that album" what does this mean and why did u say it..... lol
    July 19 09:05 AM
  • ExplosiveOranges Ah. Just noticed that, lol.

    June 25 09:53 AM
  • Metalstyles Backyard Babies is another band, if you've heard of them, who I lump together with Danko Jones. That kind of music, slightly punk-influenced, bare bones rock and roll with an attitude.
    June 6 05:30 PM
  • Metalstyles Greg, I desperately need your help. I'm looking for more bands like our beloved Danko Jones, have you got any recs? Bands that have the same playing and songwriting style, concentration on classic rock n roll riffs, the same kind of attitude as Danko etc.

  • JJwins Hey what's up man. I have an issue I need handled. I did a review and created an artist page for an artist called "taste tester" on here a few years ago. He contacted me and wanted to erase the review and the artist page as he's trying to his google search results and doesn't want old material to pop up. Anyway you can erase that review and artist page for me, along with this account that I don't use anymore? Thank you for your help.

  • Mad. No problem man! I rec'd you Santeria (mellow southern/blues rock) a while back but I don't think there was a full album up anywhere. Here's Year of the Knife which is a 5 for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uhn1Q1A8eCc

  • Mad. Haha saw my soundoff for the Main Squeeze?
    April 28 06:04 PM
  • Voivod Yeah, will check it asap :-)
    April 27 09:21 PM
  • Voivod No, it's no problem at all :-D, be my guest. The Mekong Delta review wore me off completely and it will take at least two weeks for me to write something for the new Triptykon album. Besides, I wrote in the dibs thread that I would take the new Triptykon album, if nobody else wanted it.
    April 27 07:49 PM
  • menawati i like the music it's just that scream he does makes me feel ill
    April 27 06:39 PM

    April 17 01:20 AM
  • Voivod Indeed man, indeed!
    April 15 06:36 PM
  • Voivod I've been jamming the debut Triptykon album as of late, pretty solid stuff but quite a few steps below than any Celtic Frost album, flops like Cold Lake excluded.
    April 15 06:07 PM
  • Voivod I'm on the new Mekong Delta album right now, I dibbed the Triptykon album at the forum, but I plan to pick it up as soon as a finish with my current assignment. That is, if no one else picks it before I do ;-)
    April 15 06:06 PM

    March 27 12:46 PM
  • TheBarber oh really it's not a problem (although I'd be curious as to why I was banned in the first place), but thanks a lot for the concern man! also have you found any other noisy sludge band I should check out?
    March 16 11:46 PM
  • Mad. Hmm, not sure I could say enough about it. Maybe Hoppoman will

  • chemicalmarriage No worries, completely understandable. Happy jamming m/
    February 26 05:02 PM
  • chemicalmarriage I know you're a busy guy, but if you get the chance I think you'd do an awesome review for Encrust-From Birth to Soil. I'd try but I definitely don't have the skill

  • Frippertronics hey, would you be able to check my writing on the proofreeding thread. atm it's just a blurb but i'm still fleshing it out
    February 17 08:43 PM
  • menawati Yes i went out drinking tonight thinking ' that wasnt a good idea really' but the sad thing is most of it was true. Thanks for the feature I'll continue doing lists of music that 0.1% of the community care about.
    February 16 01:00 AM
  • menawati yes got it, damn they took down my sexist list, can understand why tho haha

    February 11 10:15 PM
  • menawati oh thanks mate, didnt really expect it though really as I didn't do hardly anything on here last year
    February 11 08:42 PM
  • Mad. Well, as long as it's still got those awesome keys and doesn't sound like a Clutch clone, I'm a happy man!Did you ever check Humanfly? Definitely worth it
    January 23 06:43 PM
  • Mad. Less reggae? Damn, that was my favourite part about Lionize. Anyway, I'm lookin forward to it all the same. I might end up 4.5'ing Superczar, recently ordered the CD. Space Pope is also an excellent album.
    January 22 05:48 PM
  • Mad. Yo Greg, how's the new Lionize then? I see you've upped your rating
    January 22 07:57 AM
  • SadAndHolyGlow That's cool. I would definitely disagree with you "The New Normal" being accessible. It seems more like an experiment in edgy song structures, much like Tool. "Sharing Space" has lots of songs that could easily be played on any radio station.
    January 5 04:11 PM
  • SadAndHolyGlow So, I believe that "Sharing Space" FAR surpasses "The New Normal" (the latter sucked in my opinion). Great progressive that has a nice alternative edge to it.
    January 5 12:18 AM
  • SadAndHolyGlow Phew! A 5 for Cog's "Sharing Space"? I'm listening to them now, although everyone says I should listen to "The New Normal" first. Oh well. I'll let you know what I think!
    December 29 01:49 AM
  • menawati **** knows what it means haha
    December 19 10:09 PM

    November 5 06:29 PM
  • deathofasalesman Thanks man. Will check those out. And might I suggest Psychic Teen's "COME"? It's a strange album you might dig. All kinds of crazy influences.
    October 29 09:15 PM
  • deathofasalesman What's some abstract but good stuff you've heard from this year. You tend to review some great hidden gems.
    October 28 09:28 PM
  • Jethro42 Hi! Voivod gave me that link. Awesome prog band - http://motherturtleband.bandcamp.com/album/mother-turtle
    October 21 05:27 PM
  • Mad. Awesome that you listened! At first some of the songs may seem pretty standard but the more you listen, the better they get, like Leave Something Witchy actually has an incredibly intense, powner full middle section and Nowhere to Go has some pretty atmospheric lyrics. The best tracks are the more complex ones like Mexico (very layered, great lyrics), HWY to the Morning Star (that solo makes me cry, man) and House of the Dying Sun (just all-round brilliant). Solid 4.8/5 for me...
    October 8 03:30 PM
  • Voivod I will man, especially since I found out that they have a bandcamp location - http://subrosausa.bandcamp.com/. Thanks for the kind reminder.
    September 28 05:25 PM
  • Inveigh word, checking now man
    September 1 09:45 PM
  • Metalstyles Aight, well I'd love to hear about Italy in more detail so when you get back and feel like sharing I'm all ears.
    July 30 09:07 PM
  • Metalstyles Uuuu, you're in Italy? What's good there?
    July 30 08:08 PM
  • Metalstyles Hey man, in a very long time I've got a rec for you. Try these guys out, really fuzz-ladden stoner rock and I like their new album quite a bit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_WqqpbN5KY
    July 28 08:02 PM
  • pribosse greg check this out bro you'll love it http://necrodogg.bandcamp.com/album/spontaneous-combustion
    July 13 12:04 PM
  • Inveigh word, I've never been a screamo fan but I do dig some black metal. deafheaven offends my black metal sensibilities though
    July 3 09:28 PM
  • Inveigh I think I understand why people like it, but it seems like it's aimed at trend-hopping youngsters. it's nothing overly original, just very marketable (i.e. people who would never ever listen to black metal can get down with it and then claim they listen to black metal)
    July 3 06:56 PM
  • Jethro42 Hey. Do you have a torrent for Man's Gin?
    July 3 03:21 PM
  • Jom Most likely this week. As you know, we are still trying to figure out the decision tree.
    June 30 09:38 PM
  • menawati hey there, good to be back
    June 27 04:45 PM
  • VuvuzelaBzz I noticed you're one of the few staff-members(and users in general) to have rated Nothing More's debut album. You might already know this, but a bit over a week ago they released their sophomore album and it's quite an improvement in my opinion, so since you dug the first one I assume you'll like it. As one of the other people who's rated/commented on it said "This really needs to find a way to people's ears".
    June 22 09:07 AM
  • xxm Cheers.
    June 18 10:09 PM
  • xxm I love your reviews despite disagreeing with most of your opinions.so you're good.
    June 18 09:57 PM
  • Brostep Haha I know what you mean. I've got two or three albums I need to review this month and am having trouble finding the motivation to do it
    June 11 11:47 PM
  • Brostep I agree it's really good, and I may give it a go. Thanks for the reinforcement haha
    June 11 11:01 PM
  • MrElmo Well I toke that Hawk eyes discog of course, Castrovalava is also a real good choice but I really don't know how to describe them, the mini ST is essentially instrumental and can get pretty crazy. The first LP We are Unit is the same but with vocals. Awesome band but pretty odd at times imo. Other than that haven't checked the rest, I heard humanfly was cool
    June 6 02:25 PM
  • MrElmo Hey Brew is closing down and so for the next two weeks all of their stuff is up on bandcamp in "pay what you want" be sure not to miss out anything mate
    June 5 12:30 PM
  • xenocide. Ciebie równie?. By?em ca?y czas, tylko si? nie odzywa?em. Mo?e by si? spotka? przy okazji Days of the Ceremony?
    June 4 09:33 PM
  • Gnocchi if you need links, hit me up on fb
    May 28 11:32 AM
  • SitarHero Alternatively it's also possible that California is making everyone go soft.
    May 28 11:09 AM
  • SitarHero Hopefully it's just a bizarro sophomore slump. The band doesn't play unreleased material live, so I don't think they really have a sense of what was working and what was not while writing and recording TDPDH.
    May 28 10:27 AM
  • SitarHero I sort of understand. There are no surprises and no instant classics, but the album's been growing on me.
    May 28 10:06 AM
  • SitarHero Not digging the new AiC huh? How come?
    May 28 09:14 AM
  • MrElmo Song you linked was pretty cool, I'll go read your review
    May 28 06:43 AM
  • truekebabpower I'm glad you dig it. That EP is amazing believe me and I'm regretting I haven't listened to their new Lp sooner. I was hoping you would add some bands that are a bit more similar, since you seem to be the stoner(ish) rock authority here.
    May 27 11:28 AM
  • truekebabpower Hey! You should check out The Botanist if you haven't yet, seems right up your alley. They seem to be criminally unknown. Here's a link to their bandcamp: http://thebotanist.bandcamp.com/album/ablyss
    May 27 10:49 AM
  • MrElmo Nope haven't yet but will listen
    May 25 05:21 PM
  • MrElmo Dammit!
    May 23 09:33 PM
  • MrElmo Here dude you should dig this pretty hard, it's an awesome band that decided to go for a pretty badass and dirty album Heroic Dose, enjoy http://thesemonsters.bandcamp.com/
    May 23 05:39 PM
  • Rowan5215 s*** man that was awesome. Thanks for sharing.

  • dude have u heard the new anciients, it destroys clutch
    May 16 08:59 PM
  • Yuli ah, i see. You could still eventually write a review for it if you wanted, though-- I did that for Tera Melos, because I really dig them anyways.
    May 15 08:36 PM
  • Yuli hey man, I posted the new Queens album in the Upload Thread. You should review it!
    May 15 08:12 PM
  • Nagrarok I didn't leave a comment but yeah I read it haha.
    May 14 08:45 PM
  • Nagrarok Just leaving you a shout to say nice job on putting Beastwars in the spotlight here. Definitely one of the best new bands I've discovered this year thus far.
    May 14 08:18 PM
  • Metalstyles Aight, you know, I'm so forgetful that when you see the album drop, give me a shoutout just in case, because I may very well forget about its existence haha.
    May 14 05:43 PM
  • Metalstyles Hey man, Willie posted Age of Tarus' new album in the review requests section and it seems really cool. I don't have time for reviewing atm because I'm in the middle of the exam period, but I think it's something you (and I both) could really dig. Let me know what you think: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bP_uxL4Ifn0
    May 14 11:28 AM
  • insomniac15 Hi! Can I ask you something ? I contacted Tim Bowness of No-Man for an interview, because I love his music. He agreed and I will send some questions through mail for him to respond. Is there a chance you can post it on the blog section for me ? :D I understand I am a contributor only and I hope there aren't any inconveniences.
    May 13 01:29 PM
  • insomniac15 Probably the new QOTSA will be an eclectic record. Era Vulgaris was their weakest yet, but it has some great tracks (I like Turnin' On The Screw, Suture Up Your Future, Sick Sick Sick and 3s And 7s). Yeah, Lo-Pan's Salvador was a great record and the Chichen Itza video is funny. Red Fang should also release new stuff this year.

  • insomniac15 There have been already released some amazing records in the past months. However, I still wait for the new Sasquatch most and QOTSA now. From what I've read Sasquatch IV is already finished, but they haven't announced a release date yet, dammit.

  • insomniac15 I was thinking you were gonna review it, but Hernan will do a great job too. Fuzzbang is really cool, I was expecting it to be a lot harsher given the cover and video. It'd sound cool to listen while driving, much like Fu Manchu.
    May 6 06:49 PM
  • insomniac15 Have you heard the new QOTSA track ? It's really sweet. I'm stoked to hear Like Clockwork.
    May 6 06:32 PM
  • insomniac15 My band and I have been added to the Lake On Fire Festival! I am so excited! We're gonna share the stage with Deville!, Sungrazer, Samsara Blues Experiment (if you haven't heard them, check out Long Distance Trip, it's so good, I bought the CD). I'm gonna try and get Deville's Hydra record while there. I hope it doesn't sound like bragging, I'm just happy lol.

  • Voivod Found this band accidentally, I think you will dig them: http://mothermars.bandcamp.com/
    May 2 09:24 AM
  • Metalstyles Alright, thanks, I'll keep that in mind.
    April 27 02:25 PM
  • Metalstyles I do have a question I'd like to ask you, though. The main picture for the blog post that resizes itself - how do you get that to work? Because I haven't been able to. The so-called main picture at the very top I've always added manually by cropping pictures, but seeing as how all you other staffers have such awesome main images, I'm sure there's a better way.
    April 27 01:04 PM
  • Metalstyles It isn't a bad idea at all in general, but the thing is, in this particular case, the audio quality was far from superb and even I as the conductor of the interview had, at times, quite a lot of trouble extracting what it was exactly that he said. That's why I wrote it down. Also, and this might just be me, but I'm afraid that people would get turned off when seeing a 45 minute audio clip.
    April 27 01:01 PM
  • insomniac15 Yeah, I agree. There are some records that just get lost behind some terrible ones pushed in front.
    April 25 07:47 PM
  • insomniac15 I got busy with Clutch this week, but I got the album. From your review it seems really good, as the bands you compared it to are great. I'll check it out tomorrow :D So many new records lately.
    April 25 07:39 PM
  • Voivod The more I listen to it, the more it looks like a high 3.5, i.e. 3.6-3.7(tops). The press release mentioned prog rock, there isn't enough it in the record to substantiate it though. The same apply for doom. It is a cool vintage rock album from a band with a definitely positive future outlook.
    April 25 08:15 AM
  • Voivod Hi Greg I saw your post about the new Purson album, it's great and somewhere in between a 3.5 and a 4. Will have something written about it during the first ten days of May.
    April 25 04:41 AM

  • CaptainDooRight cool thanks bro but its actually eclectic progressive music. Check out out the last 3 tracks, there's absolutely zero dm on those, those last three tracks are progressive rock actually and I did the drums on those as well as everything else. Then if you like those try Red Sky in the Morning afterwards
    April 2 10:14 PM

  • HSThomas Hey Greg, where did you develop your love of stoner rock from? Also from your point of view do you sometimes feel you've ever overrated an album? Don't mean it to be malicious or anything I'm just curious to see what your whole perspective is on it.
    March 10 10:07 PM
  • MrElmo Good review mate, the atmosphere is indeed crushingly badass, Laura says this record will be colder and darker eh? more and more psyched. oh and you could have also added that her vocals have improved a lot
    March 3 06:56 PM
  • MrElmo Cool you made a track review, really excepecting this album to be one of their best, I know they have the potential to make a classic if they pushed themselves even more. (also can't wait for cover)
    March 3 02:59 PM
  • MrElmo Dude did you hear the new Kylesa track? The new album is gonna be badass as f**k, you gotta review it when it comes mate!
    March 3 02:34 PM

  • Yuli Hey dude, did you get your username changed back to Greg84?
    February 26 10:38 PM
  • SgtPepper Greg, I realized that I have yet to congratulate you on the promotion. You and I don't talk much, which is a shame because we seem to like a lot of the same stuff. I hope that changes though. Anyway, again, congrats and I'm looking forward to your review of Clutch. Earth Rocker will kick ass.
