• Wizard Heard 5 minutes so far and..........thank you, thank you, thank you. Where did you find this potential gem?
September 16 08:36 PM
• lalchimiste Check this single out, you might dig: http://www.nocleansinging.com/2014/09/11/an-ncs-premiere-nightbringer-the-otherness-of-being/
September 11 04:32 PM
• PortalofPerfection Huuuuuurrrrr. New darkspace just ****ed me uuuuuuup error my graaaaad!!! \m/
September 9 02:52 AM
• ExplosiveOranges Eh, I wouldn't go as far as to say they "suck", but you've been here way longer than me, so I'll take your word for it. At least you actually managed to improve instead of becoming one of those forgotten, generic track-by-track reviewers from 2005.
September 7 07:13 PM
• ExplosiveOranges You've been here since you were 16? Holy s***, dude.
September 7 07:04 PM
• emester can't wait to hear your input on the new Darkspace
September 6 11:19 PM
• ExplosiveOranges Damn, dude, you've been here for almost 8 years.
September 6 07:27 PM
• PortalofPerfection I feel like I've been waiting for like 6 years for new darksapce...Wait...
September 3 11:08 PM
• PortalofPerfection Damn lack of emoticon support :/
September 2 11:38 PM
• PortalofPerfection Still rollin old school like the old school I see ? yeah it's good to be back. Feel a lot more confident in my ability to judge my feelings on an album these days. And I got better at finding stuff too, if I'm not careful I end up with like 10 new albums in 2 days lol. Good times though. You're still writing great reviews ?
September 2 11:34 PM
• Voivod Karl If you need an instant fix of Swedish death/Asphyx/Celtic Frost metal, check this like whenever - http://gatecreeper.bandcamp.com/. Nothing new under the sun, but it brings the grooves on board.
September 1 08:10 AM
• Voivod I'm glad you liked it, I was searching for something else, and I found this stream instead.
August 28 06:36 PM
• Voivod Kyle you just have to check this out (like whenever of course), awesome old school death metal with analog sound production and unbelievable drumming - http://portal.xtreemmusic.com/streaming-en-exclusiva-del-album-completo-de-rude-soul-recall/
August 28 01:19 PM
• Voivod I had a huge crush on the opening track - which is essentially an intro - but it was/is so good that I just had to listen to it 3-4 times before going further. One of their tricks is that they use the violin to play some of the lead guitar melodies.
August 17 07:33 PM
• Voivod Hi Kyle, I've started jamming the new Panopticon album (first contact with the band and great one at that), and i remembered checking a similar band back in the day, they are called Windfaerer (of New Jersey origin) and I think you will like their "Solar" EP - http://windfaerer.bandcamp.com/album/solar
August 17 06:26 PM
• theacademy haha thanks bud
August 15 07:10 AM
• Judio! No prob, curious to hear what you think of it.
August 14 11:38 AM
• Judio! Hey Crysis, have you listened to the new Saor album that came out a couple months ago? Think you'd really dig it, especially now after reading your Panopticon review.
August 14 12:56 AM
• Jacquibim thanks man, i don't think reviewing frequency is going to be a problem, and i'm trying to review a little more than just metal now, but i think i might need to pull my head in a bit in terms of behavior lol
August 12 07:27 AM
• Jacquibim Hey dude, I'm just wondering that if I were to ever go for staff, whether or not you think my writing is good enough or if I need to improve further? Since being promoted I think you're the only person who's continued to give me constructive criticism besides "gr8 review!!" so it can be a little difficult to know whether or not I've done a good job.
August 11 10:59 PM
• BigPleb :DD
August 9 08:09 AM
• BigPleb 'it's probably like a 2.8 now that i'm listening more, but it's def better than heritage' DON'T DO THIS TO ME KYLE!
August 8 07:33 AM
• Wizard This is why I can't rate it more than a 1. I would never pay to see a cover band, let alone tolerate this horses***. They were one of the greatest metal bands of all time and ****ed up hard.
August 7 09:19 PM
• Wizard Wow, so hell just froze over. Usually, it's the other way around when arguing over what to rate Opeth albums hahahahaha. I grew up listening to prog rock with my dad and when I put this on for him and told him to guess what band it was, he answered "It's either Yes or Camel" and I ****ing laughed.
August 7 09:19 PM
• Wizard Dude, I'm gonna come back here in a day and you had better have that Opeth rating WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY lower ; )
August 7 07:24 AM
• Wizard If you're craving some new Doom, new Mournful Congregation and new Monarch are best of the best.
July 24 07:27 AM
• climactic any chance you could link me to a good rip of the new wittr? dont like listening to streams and i see youve listened to it on last.fm
July 8 01:39 AM
• Metalstyles Alright, and stuff similar to them? Anyone that comes to mind, or basically just Crimfall haha?
July 2 07:35 AM
• Metalstyles Coolios, will try. But Arafel, do you remember them? Just wondering.
July 1 06:10 PM
• Metalstyles Hey man, got a question for you. Do you remember Arafel? Well, I've been digging their latest album a ton lately and was wondering whether you have any recs for good, accessible folk metal, kinda like stuff such as Ensiferum and Eluveitie (but especially Arafel, their last album really clicks with me right now). Also, have you heard the new Equilibrium and if so, is it good or not?
July 1 05:19 PM
• Wizard So tell me, are you reviewing new WitTR because the two tracks I've heard are ****ing awesome!!!
June 25 09:03 PM
• mryrtmrnfoxxxy o brother i don't understand one bit what that means. in fiction bleeps and bloops all dam day
June 20 09:58 PM
• mryrtmrnfoxxxy Most Played:1) Dark Tranquillity 2628 plays:/
June 20 09:51 PM
• mryrtmrnfoxxxy why do you hate hypocrisy
June 20 09:22 PM
• CK So you don't dig new Arch Enemy which is totally understandable since it sucks, but can you dig the earlier works like Burning Bridges?
June 15 11:45 PM
• Deviant. So when can we expect your review for new Lana Del Rey?
June 12 05:00 AM
• zaruyache Don't you find the melodeath riff in the first track on Road to the North kinda awkward? Rest of the song is OK but that bit bothers me :/
June 9 09:51 PM
• Viraemia Hi! I just read your Woods of Desolation review and thought you might be interested in doing a review for Cardinal's debut song "Hiraeth"? www.cardinaltx.bandcamp.com
June 3 09:38 AM
• Wizard It's got stiff competition with Sun Worship but we will see. Where did you get it?
June 3 07:41 AM
• zaruyache It's got flutes and great melodies and Panopticon's great drumming.
June 2 10:01 PM
• zaruyache "new panopticon is the best bm record this year" pffff Saor gives it a run for its money.
June 2 09:54 PM
• Wizard Already have it on my Ipod : ). Thanks for the heads up though, gonna smoke a doobie and blast the s*** out of that.
June 2 08:51 PM
• Wizard I'm afraid the new Agalloch is one of those albums we will be at odds about forever hahaha. I love it dude but I get why no one else does.
May 16 09:56 PM
• Dimorphic Yo, man, you're easily my favourite reviewer on this site! There is a band called Aenaon from Greece who play progressive black metal who are criminally underrated and unknown; I'd love to hear your take on it! Their new album Extance is one of the best albums I've heard in the past couple of years and looking at your review history I think you'd really like the album! So many different styles of music and it all flows so perfectly from start to finish
May 13 01:33 PM
• Metalstyles Alrighty, new WOD through my stereo sounds much, much better than through headphones. That said, I'm still not approving of the production values and, unfortunately, that'll be the reason why I'll probably turn to Torn Beyond Reason and Towards The Depths way more often to get my WOD fix as the years go by. Still, the new one is at least growing on me and I'm starting to enjoy it!
May 13 12:34 PM
• Wizard Your comment about Celestial Effigy being the most Agalloch-y song on the album.......it's like you read my mind dude. I think this is one of those blue-moon instances where we will both agree on an album of this calibre hahahaha.
May 6 09:23 PM
• Metalstyles Hey man, if casual does the job for you, coolio (really, it comes down to whatever works for anyone). I'm no audiopedophile either, my equipment isn't anything revolutionary (pssst, I don't have an amp either, I just have a decent stereo system). I just don't fancy As The Stars through my headphones, that's all!
May 6 09:05 PM
• Metalstyles Haha, this is where our ways of viewing the record just differ. While you say raw, I say confused. Imo, it clearly aims to be melodic - the arrangements are set in a way that they're there to support melodies and give them backdrop, not for the melodies to supplement what is outstanding instrumentation/structures. Yet, the melodic parts themselves aren't allowed to shine. Those are my impressions right now at least. Like I said, haven't ran it through a stereo yet.
May 6 08:34 PM
• Metalstyles Bummer. I wasn't feeling it too much in any case at first, but it picked up a lot when "This Autumn Light" came on and carried that momentum till the end ("Ad Infinitum" is my favorite currently, mainly because it sounds the best, which can probably be attributed to the lack of crunch guitars, which in turn probably makes a good case that they just sound bad and it isn't the rip's fault). I mean, when Torn Beyond Reason came on right after it, the difference was like, whoa.
May 6 08:17 PM
• Metalstyles So, about that Woods of Desolation, your rip is the good quality one for sure? Just asking, because if so, then I don't like the production at all :/. I'm yet to listen through my stereo, but through headphones it just doesn't sound right. All the cool melodic flourishes are totally overshadowed by fuzz and static, and seeing as how the melodic parts form the crux of the record...
May 6 08:04 PM
• Wizard In my nine years I've been on the site, I've never seen as much stupidity in one thread as I've witnessed in the new Agalloch thread. Holy s*** peeps!
May 6 03:03 PM
• Wizard New Agalloch is one of those records that's going to perplex you. I've listened to it through once before work (I see you did half before work as well hahahaha).
May 5 07:19 AM
• Wizard And I don't understand how he has it.
May 3 07:28 AM
• Wizard Glad you love Death Mask. My AOTY and will probably not budge seeing as that album is like the grand peak of what sludge has become in my humble opinion.
May 2 10:02 PM
• Wizard I asked Chris Bruni and he said he hadn't given out promos yet (this was early last week). Funny how I found this preliminary review online:http://www.stereogum.com/1672221/premature-evaluation-agalloch-the-serpent-the-sphere/franchises/premature-evaluation/
May 2 10:01 PM
• Wizard And your verdict on the new Agalloch?
May 2 08:25 PM
• Wizard And your verdict on new Lord Mantis?
April 30 08:59 PM
• Metalstyles Got it, thanks so much, I appreciate the extra-curricular effort! Whenever you need an album from a super-obscure Estonian/possibly Finnish band, let me know, I'll repay the favor.
April 29 08:11 PM
• Metalstyles Whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. That'll be all.
April 29 07:52 PM
• Wizard If my review of new Lord Mantis doesn't convince you then I don't know what to say!
April 29 07:38 PM
• Metalstyles Sup Wardster, hey, do you happen to have a good link for the new Woods of Desolation? I got into the mood for them suddenly only to find out that my rip sounds incredibly crappy, meaning it's probably that low-quality, masqueraded 320 version. If you have the real deal lying around somewhere, that'd be just dandy.
April 29 06:59 PM
• Jacquibim Thanks a lot, I'm not sure what I did differently to get a reaction quite like that, but I feel a lot better about the review now.
April 26 02:00 PM
• Jacquibim Hey man, here's my revised IR review https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B4Yh8AO1-s9VR3ZiMlVVTUFKZk0/edit, would really appreciate it if you ran through and told me what you think, cheers.
April 26 01:17 PM
• dannyboy89 Dude, Opeth rules and all, but I think I might be liking Agalloch a bit more as well. There's a magic in their music that I don't quite get with Opeth. Just wanted to share that.
April 26 03:02 AM
• Wizard Can you help me find a link for new Swans "To Be Kind"?
April 23 07:45 AM
• Wizard It was in the issue with Gorguts, Black Dahlia Murder, Carcass on the front cover. And the magazine covers everything you listen to and then some.
April 23 07:33 AM
• BigPleb Criticising my lists man, not cool!
April 23 04:08 AM
• Wizard Also, did you read the Decibel Hall of Fame for Stormcrowfleet? I keep telling you man, that's the best metal literature on the market.
April 22 09:13 PM
• Wizard Do yourself a favour and get the album of the year now! Death Mask is ****ing filthy!
April 22 09:11 PM
• Wizard Have you listened to new Lord Mantis?
April 22 07:44 AM
• Jacquibim Was pretty much just asking for future reference, but I suppose the new Ne Obliviscaris would be highest on my wishlist.
April 20 12:13 PM
• Jacquibim Sweet, I'll give them a shout, thanks.
April 20 12:10 PM
• Jacquibim Darn, thought so. So how would somebody like me get a promotional release in that case?
April 20 12:08 PM
• Jacquibim Hey man, I'm wondering how you go about getting promos? eg. What you do to contact the band/label and how you usually pay for them etc. Also can you share them digitally?
April 20 12:00 PM
• Wizard Hahahahaha I will try.
April 9 07:35 AM
• Wizard I just got the new Impetuous Ritual album in the mail and he sent me a note saying how much he appreciates my enthusiasm towards his label *blushing* ****ing down to earth, really super cool guy. I will email him and see if I can snag that promo : p
April 8 06:38 PM
• dannyboy89 Yeah man, first 3 'Peth are where it's at, \m/.
April 8 01:28 PM
• CK Awesome, thanks for the suggestions! I was really digging October Falls and Vinterland. I have heard most of the others, but I haven't fully listened to some of them, so I'll get on that. And I figured most of them would be darker / melodic acts. Most of the "pretty" sounding acts I find are all quite similar to one another or just sound silly.
April 8 01:24 PM
• dannyboy89 Nice to see that you're in the (small) early Opeth camp. I definitely prefer their sound on their first 3 to their sound on SL and BWP. There are some good songs on those, but there are also boring moments in 'em imo. Most people seem to be in the mid-Opeth and late Opeth camps. Heritage seems to be their most polarizing album though, people disagree a lot on that one.
April 8 01:18 PM
• Wizard Did I tell you I saw the Ocean the other night (sucked a lot minus their drummer, overrated band) and I met Chris Bruni (owner of Profound Lore Records). I asked him if he could send me promos and he said he might think about it. He knows who I am cuz I order literally everything that he releases/ distro and he does all the shipping himself (that's how he recognizes my name hahaha). I might drop him a line.
April 8 07:30 AM
• Wizard I'm gaining some excitement for the new album though. Their one released song is amazing and I really hope the rest of the album is on par.
April 7 09:16 PM
• Wizard A long read about the new Agalloch but good nonetheless.http://www.stereogum.com/1672221/premature-evaluation-agalloch-the-serpent-the-sphere/franchises/premature-evaluation/
April 7 09:15 PM
• Willie There's a review request that was directed specifically to you. Check it out and let me know.
April 6 03:26 PM
• CK Hey Crysis, want to help me out? Looking for some good dark and melodic / very "pretty" metal. Could be doom, post, death, black, whatever. Been listening to select old Insomnium tracks and the two title tracks off of Alcest's sophomore album and was wondering if you have any suggestions. Thanks in advance!
April 3 09:13 AM
• Asmodeuss1990 Sounds good dude. I figured you'd dig it since its technical melo-death
March 31 04:43 PM
• Wizard Hahahaha than I will probably be granted a feature if that's all I have to go through hahaha jk.
March 26 07:29 AM
• Wizard Hey dude, I'm writing a review for the new Horseback. Any luck getting a feature? Album is soothing and amazing if your into kraut/ psych rock/ metal.
March 25 09:10 PM
• Asmodeuss1990 Dude, can you review the new album by Inferi? The Path Of Apotheosis is siiiiiiiiiiiick.
March 24 03:39 PM
• mryrtmrnfoxxxy no matter what happen s bb ily
March 22 09:33 AM
• Wizard They go absolutely nowhere with their songs.
March 20 07:11 AM
• ainulindaleofficial Hi Crysis, Engwar from Ainulindalė here, could you get in touch with me at engwar@hotmail.fr so that we can discuss the review of my new album Nevrast? Thank you !
March 20 04:01 AM
• Wizard New Thou sucks a lot dude. And I'm going to take flak for it.

March 16 11:29 PM
• Relinquished who's got dibs on the impetuous ritual
March 16 11:27 PM
• Insurrection hey, youre probably way ahead of me on this but the new dark tranquillity EP is out/leaked. i look forward to your potential review of it!
March 14 11:25 AM
• Metalstyles I mean I still liked the songs of course, just not as much anymore. Maybe it's due to overplay as well, who knows.
March 13 07:06 PM
• Metalstyles I guess that's why I joined this place back when I did, too - so I could share my love of In Flames with everyone haha (sadly a love that seems to be dying nowadays - I listened to a bunch of their songs the other day and just didn't feel the connection I used to; worse still, I have enjoyed a lot of Dark Tranquillity lately and all those conversations from like 08 and 09 pop up in my head when I was vehemently IF
March 13 06:36 PM
• Metalstyles I'm more for sharing than plain namedropping, though irl I don't do that as much as I'd ideally like to, because my music taste rather radically differs from that of most of my closer friends (I have a surprisingly low amount of metalhead buds that I often hang out with). I know my stuff wouldn't stick with them anyway so I'm content enjoying it on my own.
March 13 06:33 PM
• Metalstyles By loving an artist it automatically makes us a part of a select group of people - the people who like and possibly promote said artist - but the goal really isn't or shouldn't be to stand out, but to find fitting music to accompany our lives. Anyway, those are my thoughts, from your friend who is absolutely looking forward to a new Dope record :D. Thanks for the great read, man!
March 13 05:02 PM
• Metalstyles ...to get enjoyment, comfort, inspiration, feels etc out of it. When I'm going bloghunting, I'm not doing it with the purpose of finding a band with 100 facebook fans so that I could rave over it and flaunt that I, the great Columbus, discovered them. I do it with the intention of finding something I can connect with, whether it be on a fun level or a food-for-the-thought level.
March 13 05:01 PM
• Metalstyles So I read your latest blogpost and whoa man, it feels like I just went to a sermon haha. You were spot on about so many things. The only thing I'm not 100% on board with would be you saying that we all listen to different artists because we want to stand out and feel special. While there is definitely some truth to that, I wouldn't say that's always the case. Music is both a source of entertainment and something we can connect with on a deeper level, and most people (should) listen to it...
March 13 05:01 PM
• tempest-- damn, thanks anyway :D
March 10 12:17 PM
• tempest-- do you know if that Innsmouth album is anywhere in 320?? can only find it in 128 :-[
March 10 06:02 AM
• Wizard Whoa, you're scaring me with the new Thou, not as good as their last album huh? Need to listen to it still.
March 7 08:27 AM
• Wizard Hey buddy, can you find me a link for Intronaut - Habitual Levitations? You are so good at hunting s*** down and I have no idea how you do it. I can't find this anywhere. Are there keywords you use in your search besides the obvious rar, BlogSpot, zippyshare, mediafire etc.
March 7 08:26 AM
• Wizard the movie The Wolf of Wall Street hahahaha too much and too excessive. Awesome concert though, Intronaut also killed it.
March 2 12:17 AM
• Wizard Dude, if you hear anything live from Sunbather, you will be converted! The most intense band and when they opened with Dream House, I lost my s***. They finished their set with a song off Roads to Judah. BtBaM are wayyyyyyyy too excessive with their chugs and fills. Quite frankly, they tired me out just watching them and I don't mean that in a good way. They don't write songs, they write intricate pieces and slap them together. Sure they're good musicians, but I can't help but compare to
March 2 12:16 AM
• Wizard Hopefully they play some stuff from Roads to Judah and I know you like that album quite a bit.
March 1 05:41 PM
• Wizard Everyone will have this gay hairstyle (guy on left) and I can't wait to knock them out in the pit hahahahahttp://www.npr.org/blogs/allsongs/2013/05/01/180082186/vikings-choice-enter-deafheavens-exhilarating-dream-houseI could care less tbqh as long as these bands put on a good show. It was $20 and you can't go wrong with 4 professional bands giving you a performance for that price.
March 1 05:33 PM
• Wizard I tell you what they were like tomorrow.
March 1 04:35 PM
• Wizard No sarcasm, I do enjoy BtBaM (fun band when I'm in the mood), Sunbather will probably come across better live and Intronaut is the next best thing to seeing Tool.
March 1 04:35 PM
• Wizard Going to see Between the Buried and Me, Deafheaven, and Intronaut tonight. Should be a fun concert.
March 1 03:32 PM
• Keyblade Hey dude have you heard the new Vindensang? I know you dug the debut, the new one is just as good holy
March 1 07:39 AM
• Wizard Thank you!
February 27 06:02 PM
• Wizard Need a little help finding that Morbus Chron album. The one track I listened to was awesome. You can email it to me if you want.
February 27 07:14 AM
• Jacquibim Hey man, just wondering. Was my promotion contentious at all, for one reason or another? I'm just asking in case I ever decide to go for staff one day.
February 18 01:20 AM
• Atari Alright just making sure ha.
February 13 03:28 PM
• Atari Hey, I just want to let you know I'm not asking for more feedback from Omaha because I disagree with what you told me. I just think the more constructive criticism I can get the better at this point. Everything you posted in my shoutbox was really helpful though and I'll be taking it into account...just don't want you to think your 5 posts were a waste of time.
February 13 03:23 PM
• Wizard Where do I find out who made staff/ contributors for 2014?
February 13 07:53 AM
• Atari Thanks for the honest feedback man. I'll see if I can dig deeper in my future reviews and step out of my comfort zone more
February 12 09:36 PM
• Atari Thanks a lot I appreciate it! Feel free to tear me a new one lol.
February 12 07:36 PM
• Wizard Check out the new Artificial Brain album now! Cool stuff. Also, have you ever heard Indesinence's 'Vessels of Light and Decay'? One of the best death/ doom albums of 2013 and no one on this site has listened to it! ****ing kills newborns straight from the womb!
February 12 07:34 PM
• Atari Hey man, I know we haven't really spoken much before..but I'm just curious if you have any tips on how I could improve my writing? I dig your reviews and you've been here awhile so just thought I'd ask.
February 12 07:09 PM
• Tom93M Thanks man :)

February 11 11:12 AM
• Brostep Thanks! Looking forward to it.
February 11 11:05 AM
• JamieTwort Thanks dude.
February 11 10:51 AM
• Jacquibim Thanks man, it means a lot! I'll make sure to give you a shout if I need help with anything.
February 11 10:33 AM
• Wizard And I've been noticing our ratings agreeing with each other as of lately (hahahaha) something we've struggled with in the past.
February 11 07:47 AM
• Wizard Exmortus are like 5-8 years younger than myself but I still had a great time hanging out with them too. Bought their newest full length on vinyl (probably going to do a 3.5 review for it). They're a better band live. The other Finnish band that opened before DT were ****ing cool too. Loved their overuse of keyboards hahahaha. Next shows I'm going to are Between the Buried and Me and The Ocean who have both disappointed me with their last few albums but should be great live!
February 11 07:46 AM
• Wizard Not only did I get to drink with them, I smoked a fatty with them as well. Stanne is probably one of the most charismatic frontmen in the metal scene today and one of the most down to earth. I got pics with them, they signed all my albums up to their last two albums. They asked me why I didn't own them and I straight up told them I didn't like the sound very much and they bust out laughing. What did you think of Exmortus? ****ing incredible shredders and songwriters!
February 10 06:20 PM
• Wizard You wouldn't believe what I just did last? Have you ever hung out with Dark Tranquility?
February 10 07:28 AM
• Wizard Just got tickets to see Dark Tranquility on Feb. 9 in London. **** yeah, I don't care if their last two albums were garbage.
February 4 09:05 PM
• Metalstyles Yeah I will definitely explore Drudkh further. I'm sure the rewards will be great.
February 1 10:39 AM
• Metalstyles And, to be fair, that is not an unreasonable request at all! I should delve deeper into Drudkh, though. I heard Forgotten Legends and thought it was the best thing ever, but so much music, so little time, and I tend to forget about things. Also listened to Rippikoulu for the first time today and I still don't know what you guys rave over there hahaha. It was okay, but kinda really monotonous and not something I'd like to listen to all the time.
February 1 12:35 AM
• Metalstyles I guess I can say I've never had a real transcendental set either, but I'm quite happy with what I have.
February 1 12:24 AM
• Metalstyles On my PC I'm currently (and have been for the last few years) using a Logitech Z4 system, which I like a lot because it has great, great sound quality for its price. I'm using expensive AKG headphones though for more detailed listening. They're good, but I wouldn't say they're the best thing ever. At times I also listen to tunes through my best friend's car stereo but I have no idea what he's working with. All I know is that his bass is off the charts haha.
February 1 12:23 AM
• Metalstyles That's the spirit! Though, have you ever felt like some really interesting details pop up when listened through cheap headphones? On the street, I'm currently rocking some Sennheisers that have clearly endured beyond their projected age, and at times I feel like I catch glimpses of elements that kind of went missing when I listened to the album in question with my (supposedly) good headphones. Of course, this may be due to my habit of kicking up the bass haha.
February 1 12:09 AM
• Metalstyles In those eleven minutes, it seems to pinpoint the trajectory of my life thus far, and I'm never sure if I should be mesmerized or devastated by it, usually ending somewhere in between.
January 31 11:50 PM
• Metalstyles Agreed with that, but for me it's the last 2:25 that do it hard (granted, I love the story the whole song expresses, but still). Those 2 minutes at the end are some of the most powerful music I've ever heard. Listened through high-quality headphones, that ending is such a masterpiece, especially with those lyrics. Honestly, it's probably the only song I've broken down to singing along (I can never be entirely sure!).
January 31 11:49 PM
• Metalstyles Oh and thanks for the link bro, I knew you'd come through!
January 31 10:46 PM
• Metalstyles I do blame the crime on poverty. I still buy records, but unfortunately, as long as people are offering me a solid 400-500 euros per month (which does not include taxes etc.), I do not feel bad for downloading music! Also, have you ever looked into Iron Thrones' EP The Wretched Sun? I'm not saying you have to get the whole thing, but the song "I Once Had The Crown" is one of my all-time favorite cuts and I haven't been able to stop listening to it in the last few days.
January 31 10:45 PM
• Metalstyles Since I know you've long given in to crime life, have you got a solid, 320kbps rip of the new Woods of Desolation lying around somewhere? I think you do!
January 31 09:35 PM
• Omaha cool, man. see, that uncertainty is why i'm interested in covering it- so many possibilities. since it may be more ambient / drone based, it may be more my kinda thing. guess we'll find out =]
January 30 01:27 PM
• Omaha hey man i'd be happy to cover the new WitTR if you don't end up reviewing it!
January 30 12:40 PM
• Wizard Check out new Burial Hordes as well. ****ing amazing!
January 27 08:06 PM
• Wizard I also see you dropped your rating on that Drudkh album ; ).
January 26 07:21 PM
• Wizard Also, they are the best bm band (not so much on this album) to do NWOBHM style riffing. Infectious album. HEIL!!!!
January 26 07:21 PM
• Wizard Holy **** the new M8L8th rules. ****ing love the direction they went in. Kind of reminds me of Viking metal done right.
January 26 07:13 PM
• Wizard I thought they were M8L8th.
January 25 09:34 AM
• Wizard Why the name change?
January 25 09:34 AM
• Wizard Covers are like the end-of-career excuses. You prove my point with your current ratings right now hahaha. Three of those Slayer albums come after their cover album Undisputed Attitude hahahaha.
January 21 07:58 PM
• Wizard Also, Drudkh needs to put out some damn quality soon! That cover album is worthless (and I already have both the E.P.'s on it).
January 21 07:50 PM
• Wizard I wish I had the time to post more but ****ing s***, family life calls ALL THE TIME! Thanks for the rec.
January 21 07:41 PM
• Voivod Hi Kyle, I think you will like this one, Greek death/black metal featuring members of Dead Congregation - http://www.sputnikmusic.com/news/29786/Burial-Hordes-stream-new-album/
January 17 02:20 PM
• Wizard Wow, I think we're finally seeing the light together hahahahah. New Alcest was the worst and I love your soundoff for the new Woods of Desolation.
January 17 08:06 AM
• Lucid why do you hate pretty albums (shelter/sunbather) ;(
January 8 03:07 AM
• Wizard Didn't I tell you a while back I read this in the Krypts ad from Dark Descent:"If Unending Degradation could be summed up in two words, they would be murky filth."It was like 1am and my wife was sleeping and I woke her up and said "I ****ing know the guy who wrote that line". I showed her your review and she said "You wish you knew him". I felt so important for about 2 mins of my life hahahaha.
December 30 08:58 PM
• Wizard Where's your top 20?
December 30 07:08 PM
• Wizard Is Jom or the other mx person still around that could take care of coding errors such as these?
December 30 03:44 PM
• Wizard Sorry, I meant to say *in the 'lists'
December 30 10:37 AM
• Wizard Got a technical question for you, how do I make apostrophes appear in the list instead of coming up as symbols? Also, how do people italicize in lists as well? When I go to do it, it always shows up as dashdahudauid?
December 30 10:36 AM
• Voivod Kyle hi, I was browsing the bandcamp location of Relapse Records and I've found a stream for the new Obliteration album - http://blackdeathhorizon.bandcamp.com/releases - it would be great to put the link in the introductory post of your review.
December 22 08:53 AM
• NocteDominum My personal AOTY, check out my end of year list, should be some there matching your flavour.
December 17 06:57 PM
• NocteDominum Yeah nice, did you dig any of the doomier releases from this year?
December 17 05:52 PM
• NocteDominum When's your personal end o year list going up man, I'd much like to read the m/
December 17 05:47 PM
• Metalstyles That is sad. I have one for you that you might enjoy. It's Arsaidh - Roots (under the database under Saor because the man behind the project decided the change the name). One of my top albums from this year. I also liked Caladan Brood - Echoes of Battle a lot. I dunno if you have checked it but it's a lot like Summoning (which I btw really need to give more spins to). But yeah, if you don't know any other cool albums like that from this year I might just have to go bloghunting.
November 25 08:16 AM
• Metalstyles Hey man, know any good folk/black metal from this year that has some killer acoustics? Currently in the mood for such stuff.
November 23 01:29 PM
• Xenophanes Thanks a lot man, I appreciate that. Honestly wish I had a better reason to leave other than simply not wanting to review any longer. But hey I've enjoyed my time.
November 13 09:19 PM
• Wizard Morbid Tales predates that one by 3 years. But I mean, they're both absolute game changers.
November 12 10:05 PM
• Wizard "Under the Sign of the Black Mark" which I can agree that it really set the template for everything black metal whether it was Viking, progressive, cold and hypnotic, etc. Interesting pick nonetheless. They failed to put any Paysage on the list though but I think it's a little too obscure for a mainstream publication. They still nailed a lot of essentials.
November 12 07:40 AM
• Keyblade Sweet man. Only gave it a couple of spins but I can easily see it becoming my dm aoty. Production is perf
November 12 06:00 AM
• Keyblade Noice, I'm guessing either Obliteration or Gorguts topping your list?
November 12 12:00 AM
• Wizard Also, I'm reading the Decibel Top 100 Black Metal albums of all time and it's quite interesting. Do you want me to give away number 1? I actually agree with it somewhat when you read what the writer had to say about it.
November 11 07:25 PM
• Wizard It's worth checking out cuz ya know, myself and Noctus have the most scatter brain opinions around here hahahaha. Seriously, it's not even close to World Without God. The production and total lack of thought put into makes me think they only did a comeback cuz everyone else was. Not a cashgrab, just a sloppy effort since they puttered out and were only recognized years later.
November 11 07:25 PM
• Keyblade You need to get more active dude
November 9 08:24 AM
• Asmodeuss1990 You're welcome dude! I always look forward to seeing your reviews haha. You shed light to some bands that almost get zero exposure.
November 7 08:44 PM
• Wizard Dude, new Convulse is zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz didn't expect that at all.
November 7 07:52 AM
• Asmodeuss1990 I dig your taste in your music dude (y) your reviews are also pretty great.
November 6 09:38 PM
• Wizard Dude, I found a leak a week ago and it's amazing. Not a 5 though, more like 4/5.
November 6 05:36 PM
• Wizard Kyle, how the hell did you rate the Arghoslent demo 'Bastard Son...' a 2.5? s*** slays and I love the rawness of it. Thanks for posting the demos on Ghosts of Saturn, been really digging all of them tonight!
October 23 08:53 PM
• Willie Ha ha, No. I don't play PC games, only Xbox.
October 13 09:39 AM
• Wizard New Obliteration track is amazing! I can see that one being top my list this year judging by one song.
October 3 03:16 PM
• Wizard It does rule but I'm lacking any new doom that blows my mind.
October 1 07:19 PM
• Wizard Listen to the subtle melodies in that song and it will change your mind!
October 1 06:18 PM
• Wizard I could listen to "Into the Painted Grey" over and over again. There are a lot of awesome subtle melodies that pop out at you.
October 1 07:39 AM
• Wizard Just wondering what your thoughts are on Marrow of the Spirit after all this time? It's been a while since I last heard it and today I decided to give it another go to see I still like it as much as I did before. Dude, it's aged well! It's a departure from their other stuff but considering we've all matured as music listeners, I was just wondering how it's settled after all this time.
September 30 08:45 PM
• Metalstyles Don't worry, I'm not thinking about leaving ;). I'm just forced into a more passive role due to real life duties. I'll still try to write and engage in a few conversations every once in a while. It took me over 4 years to reach staff so Imma hold on to this title.
September 29 04:18 AM
• Metalstyles I try my best to keep up, but with school and friends and other hobbies taking up my time as well, it's quite difficult, I'm not gonna lie.
September 27 09:35 PM
• Metalstyles I know, it's been an big adjustment for me. We've been living together for over a year now and before that I used to have my speakers blasting at least half the time when I was home. Now they're blasting only when she's away, which really isn't all that often because usually when she's away I'm away as well simply because I have more place to go/be at. Again, hence why I don't have much time for (new) music anymore.
September 27 09:34 PM
• Metalstyles We'll see. I'll try to write something Sunday/Monday since my girl went out of town for a few days. Me and her don't see eye to eye when it comes to music and needless to say it means I don't really get to blast my music at home (which explains why I'm really behind/perpetually slow when it comes to checking out new releases. For example I haven't even managed to give the new Gorguts a go yet, though the new Carcass was pretty cool when we're talking about the big releases).
