  • Voivod Hi man, hope everything is ok, you really need to bookmark this for future inspection, grindcore/death/sludge metal from France ("name your price" download) - http://prognathe.bandcamp.com/album/revelation-flesh
    December 18 05:50 PM
  • DoctorDoom Absolutely, man. An yeah, I am always looking for new records, so I'll take you up on that offer eventually.
    December 13 10:20 AM
  • DoctorDoom Thank you for the feedback, it's really appreciated. Also, I can understand giving the new Bloodbath such a low rating. The vocals feel very phoned in. However, there's a good amount of tracks that instrumentally function at a rather high level. They bring back a nostalgic death metal feel for me personally. I was torn between giving it a 2.5 or a 3.0, still it was a letdown for me. Probably shouldn't let my nostalgic thinking cloud my rating.
    December 12 04:24 PM
  • DoctorDoom For sure! I've thought about doing a review or two ( I was an English major in college) but I know there's a lot of strong opinions on this site, an it's tough to write here, so who knows. I think Death Mask is my favorite metal album of the year though. The only one that I found to be an obvious five for me.
    December 11 08:50 AM
  • climactic i rly liked some of the songs (not good with titles), but the album as a whole i was pretty lukewarm about
    December 10 09:08 PM
  • climactic sooooooo that Fen album is good? i thought their last one was pretty boring
    December 10 08:58 PM
  • Voivod Not sure how much free time you have right now, but this Spanish black metal band and album deserve your attention: http://wrongblackmetal.bandcamp.com/album/pessimistic-outcomes
    December 9 07:17 AM
  • FearThyEvil Any recommendations on some good black metal from this year? It's not too late lol. I'm trying to wrap-up all 2014 releases before christmas that I want to hear.
    December 8 10:48 PM
  • FearThyEvil I thought they're were a few pretty good dm release but last years selection was certainly better.
    December 8 12:50 AM
  • Ignimbrite I have. I get that it's not that different, but I still enjoy it a lot more.
    December 7 11:04 PM
  • FearThyEvil Good stuff, I really think Full of Hell might have one of the better releases this year.
    December 6 11:21 PM
  • Ignimbrite Seriously, though. Such a solid album.
    December 6 11:10 AM
  • FearThyEvil Gotta say, I'm surprised you like the new Full of Hell release so much. I'm glad because it's certainly one of my favorites this year.
    December 6 12:23 AM
  • DoctorDoom Hey, really enjoyed your review of the new Lord Mantis record. It's by far my favorite metal album released this year.
    December 5 04:46 PM
  • Dryden been busy with work and was ill for a bit so disappeared from here for a while but now im back. show your daughter bm and tell stories of dryden
    December 1 10:01 PM

    November 28 10:08 PM
  • ShadowRemains yup
    November 27 02:51 PM
  • Voivod Oh I didn't know and I totally understand, best wishes for your new family member!
    November 23 04:41 AM
  • Voivod Hi Karl, I think that the new Varathron album deserves your attention - http://agoniarecords.bandcamp.com/album/untrodden-corridors-of-hades
    November 22 12:10 PM
  • Jacquibim But yeah, I definitely plan on having children one day, just not in the foreseeable future. I'm thinking of going to university maybe next year or the year after that.
    November 21 08:19 AM
  • Jacquibim Nuh I live in Australia, and we're (to be honest) very very overpaid here, but it's not so much the amount of money you make but the regularity with which you make it. Casual work is like an epidemic here, and I wouldn't dream of having kids with such fiscal uncertainty (working 40 hours one week and then 5 the next, for example). Thankfully I landed myself another full time job yesterday after telling my previous employer to go and **** herself :D
    November 21 08:17 AM
  • Jacquibim Gotta be on solid financial ground before I spread my genes heh
    November 21 12:04 AM
  • Jacquibim Congratulations on your new baby girl :D
    November 20 03:58 AM
  • ResidentNihilist great to hear, really wanna know what you think of it as it sounds so much up your alley.
    November 13 06:09 PM
  • ResidentNihilist Hey Wiz, ever listened to Juicy Planet Earth by Flapjack? http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF35CB68F641853C3 Awesome polish nu-metal with that off-kilter vibe that both Nothingface and Mudvayne on LD 50 tapped into if you haven't heard it.
    November 13 06:05 PM
  • Jacquibim Hey dude, seeing as you love power electronics, check out my latest review and (if you haven't already) check out the album too http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/65014/Pure-Fetor/
    November 12 02:08 AM
  • Voivod I have to listen to listen to that album too, Anacrusis is among my all time favorite metal bands.
    November 5 10:17 PM
  • Voivod the record is short in length too, so it's unlikely for it to become tiring.
    November 5 05:49 PM
  • Voivod Hi Karl, this is noise/industrial that I think you will dig. If you like the track, check the album like whenever: http://sterilizer.bandcamp.com/track/dis-content
    November 5 02:45 AM
  • ExplosiveOranges It's been a mixed bag. On one hand, term 1 just ended in my high school, and I've had plenty of time to chill and jam with my friends. On the other hand, I had a horrible writer's block that I just barely got past recently, and my friend's mom fell into a coma over the weekend. Glad to know life's been treating you well, though. I'll be sure to congratulate you when delivery day arrives.
    November 3 03:33 PM
  • SharkTooth I'll definitely do that, thanks!
    November 3 09:04 AM
  • Jacquibim Oh believe me I know just how intricate some of the pieces are, and there is harsh noise out there that I like a hell of a lot. It just seems that for every album I enjoy I come across about 3 or 4 that are just boring, endurance tests, Incapacitants are really bad in that regard. Been meaning to check 1930 cause what I've heard of it I enjoyed far more than something like Verenology for example... or I could just keep delving into power electronics ;)
    November 3 08:00 AM
  • Jacquibim Yeah, his big-wall-of-sound albums just wear on my patience by the end of it. Harsh noise in general is just really really gimmicky IMO.
    November 2 05:09 PM
  • ExplosiveOranges Hey man, haven't talked to you in a while. How's life?
    November 2 01:22 PM
  • SharkTooth I haven't really listented to their debut so I think that's why I like Melana Chasmata a lot more than you did tbqh. But on its own I felt it stood really well.
    November 2 09:32 AM
  • SharkTooth Yeah I've heard some of those albums, ( Indian, Morbeus Chron, Lord Mantis, Dead Congregation) and they're good. Will check out the others soon
    November 2 09:28 AM
  • Jacquibim I should clarify that he doesn't do post-rock in the vein of Explosions in the Sky of anything, most of his stuff has a strong neo-classical vibe to it, and there's a bunch of other influences like glitch, breakbeat and sometimes jazz.
    November 1 08:54 PM
  • Jacquibim It's just one guy, but yeah I absolutely adore his stuff (Program Music is my 2nd fav album ever), not sure if you'd dig it because it's really really saccharine, but try it just in case. And yeah I've heard Merzbow, but I prefer his earlier stuff like Antimonument and Music For Bondage Performance, Flair Gun is pretty cool but most of his work after that I find a little boring, maybe one day it'll click.
    November 1 08:50 PM
  • Jacquibim Not yet, been busy with the new Kashiwa Daisuke
    November 1 10:34 AM
  • LilLioness I have just started listening to the opener and you ain't kidding. I have been yearning for something like this this year.
    November 1 09:28 AM
  • Voivod I found out about it accidentally :-)
    November 1 07:55 AM
  • LilLioness I haven't gotten around to listening to new Godflesh yet. How is it?
    October 31 10:10 PM
  • Jacquibim Yeah, even if our tastes differ, I always respect users more if they think for themselves, an attribute that seems to be missing from 95% of the userbase. Also, Ulcerate you say? Welly welly welly well, consider my interest piqued!
    October 31 04:42 PM
  • Voivod black/thrash metal from Canada that deserves your attention: http://hellacaust.bandcamp.com/album/what-is-not
    October 31 07:13 AM
  • zaruyache THERE ARE. like
    October 30 09:35 PM
  • zaruyache apparently my long comment got cut off :/ What I said was my spreadsheet for 2014 is super huge and there are
    October 30 09:29 PM
  • zaruyache And that's the sheet for 2014.
    October 30 07:41 PM
  • Jacquibim glad we finally agreed on something heh
    October 30 04:49 PM
  • zaruyache uhhh I can't even say off-hand. They're pretty basic atmos-bm. Maybe I'll get you a name when I have my giant spreadsheet handy.
    October 30 09:22 AM
  • Mall Thanks buddy, only heard Autopsy out of those : )
    October 29 08:06 AM
  • Mall hey man, i was wondering if you could give me some death metal recs from this year? trying hard to get back into the genre : )
    October 28 08:02 AM
  • Voivod Trey Spencer thinks very highly of that album as well. Thanks for the link, their bandcamp page doesn't have the album streaming, probably because of the metal injection deal.
    October 26 05:30 PM
  • Voivod I would also add all the Greek sputnik residents as Thorns fans. The 87 sputnik votes say that Thorns are fairly appreciated here.
    October 26 02:53 PM
  • Voivod I was caught by surprise as well! The guy who mixed the album is Snorre from Thorns. Now, I have read in Metal Hammer Greece that Snorre has been preparing the new Thorns album all this time since 2001, don't know how much truth there's to that though.
    October 26 10:31 AM
  • Voivod Aldrahn is back... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osA6zRyRZuM. And congrats for your baby girl man!!!
    October 26 07:36 AM
  • Crysis por que no los dos?
    October 22 05:14 PM
  • Crysis holy **** congrats karl!
    October 21 09:16 PM
  • Crysis negative, google shut us down initially so i thought it was done for but apparently today it's back up! don't know why but i'm not complaining
    October 21 04:25 PM
  • Voivod I just saw that your comment wasd so no worries.
    October 21 02:38 PM
  • Voivod Karl, please erase some zzz's from your post in the Obituary stream news item, the thread is deformed.
    October 21 08:05 AM
  • Trebor. s*** I got a link from Anthom and I don't remember what site and I can't find it in my search history
    October 20 08:56 PM
  • zaruyache Occultation, from guitarist of Negative Plane w/ female vox. Same guitar style but less evil. http://profoundlorerecords.bandcamp.com/album/silence-in-the-ancestral-house
    October 19 11:39 PM
  • zaruyache This isn't a "proper" link to Ardour Loom, but it's better than ripping from youtube! I think the first track is the taken from the label's soundcloud, but the 2nd sounds more lo-fi so I think someone else just ripped the cassette or something. Still good tho. http://tinyurl.com/kabrxly
    October 17 07:42 PM
  • ResidentNihilist http://sideburnsmovement.blogspot.de/2014/10/interview-dan-swano-nightingale.htmlDon't if you'd be interested but Dan's doing a second solo album for 2016 and it's supposed to be more dm orientated. He talks about it in the last question I think.
    October 16 04:05 PM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot thanks man, means a lot coming from you
    October 16 07:30 AM
  • Voivod Karl I think you will dig this, filthy Venom/Motorhead/early Voivod black/thrash metal from Greece - https://wtcproductions.bandcamp.com/album/fire-brimstone
    October 15 03:37 PM
  • johnnydeking29 Hehe saw it - I get what you mean about contrast and agree that that's one of their strengths...I just think they have other ways of being awesome :P Sorry if I seemed aggressive
    October 15 02:28 PM
  • zaruyache You like Alraune and this is *sort* of like that, I think? Bit of a hardcore tinge here and there. http://salvaticus.bandcamp.com/album/hidden-manna
    October 12 03:30 PM
  • Voivod I believe you, after all that documentary is years old.
    October 8 08:09 AM
  • Voivod A friend from Greece sent me the link and it corroborates Michael Moore's documentary about gun possesion in the US, the part where he visited Canada for the sake of comparison.
    October 8 02:10 AM
  • zaruyache I don't even have one. I only have a youtube rip from the official stream of the first track, then a direct rip from the youtube vids of the guy who recorded his stereo playing the cassette, which are much rawer and bm sounding (which you'd prob like tbh). The label is going to put it on bandcamp once the cassette sells out in like a month, though.
    October 7 09:09 PM
  • Voivod http://themetapicture.com/canada-the-only-place-youll-see-something-like-this/
    October 7 08:55 AM
  • zaruyache check my new review, ya digg
    October 6 05:59 PM
  • Jacquibim Lol it's all good, you're not the first user to think that, it's just unusually widespread for something so baseless.
    October 5 10:49 PM
  • Jacquibim I'm actually curious as to why there's this perception that I'm a massive brutal dm fan, same for the idea that all I look for in the genre is complexity/technicality (two premises that seem pretty damn inconsistent, no?). For every chugga-slam or dweedle-dee band I like I could probably name about two dozen old school "true" bands that I'm significantly more fond of.
    October 5 12:11 AM
  • Jacquibim Sorry to disappoint you but I do find them boring, Nihility is nowhere near Winds of Creation level and the production is annoying. The steady shift towards groove over the rest of their discog just doesn't sit well with me, then there's the change in vocalist and fervent for chugga chugga sections etc. etc. Don't get me wrong, I wanted to like the rest of their discog but it's just so w/e
    October 3 09:25 PM
  • zaruyache guy didn't actually assault his girlfriend apparently so I know of no reason to criticize him, outside of that sub-par last album. I think I tried listening to some of his Tentacles record, but wasn't floored by it. His band is still on my sticky note list of essential bands I need to listen to, though.
    October 1 09:14 PM
  • zaruyache Guitar tone isn't brutal enough on new Krieg. Leviathan have a new lp coming out at the end of the year that I'll check. Massive Conspiracy ruels but I've not tried much of his other stuff.
    October 1 12:23 PM
  • Judio! haha I can totally picture that! I actually watched this documentary on Netflix a while back about the making of a South Park episode (this one in particular was about the making of the episode Human Cent-iPad) and it was interesting stuff. It's cool how they have a pool of writers who all have different ideas and yet they're able to make such brilliant stuff.
    October 1 02:18 AM
  • emester nice rating on the new Godflesh. Q4 of this year has me so excited
    September 30 09:37 PM
  • zaruyache new Krieg/Leviathan split ruelz. Posted an article about it but I doubt it'll get approved so here you go bud http://holyterror.bandcamp.com/
    September 30 08:30 PM
  • Judio! Damn, didn't even know that. No wonder South Park's satire is always so on-point, it never sounds like the show is pulling any of the jokes out of its ass and that just makes it all the funnier.
    September 30 01:54 PM
  • osmark86 indeed, how would I live we myself if I did leave you astray?
    September 30 11:43 AM
  • Judio! It's true, probably my favorite animated show. Haven't been watching the new episodes, but I swear the creators of that show are geniuses of some sort.
    September 28 05:27 PM
  • osmark86 I think they have a pretty unique sound, especially considering it's dulcimer based. I mean, how many bm bands are using that instrument? personally I couldn't give two s***s about whether they are pseudo-environmentalist or whatnot as long as the music slays much in the same way that people enjoy nsbm without following their hateful messages. give it another go mate! for me ^^
    September 28 12:54 PM
  • osmark86 one mo fing. have you heard the latest Botanist yet? just got around to it today and bloody hell I'm loving this s***. such an improvement upon IV even though that album still kills.
    September 28 07:51 AM
  • osmark86 thank you for the recs. I've heard them all except Godflesh ^^. I still believe you're one of the few people crazy enough to enjoy Wold haha. maybe I'll spin that s*** again to see if it's at least tolerable. stay kvlt!
    September 28 05:48 AM
  • Judio! Same here lol. Isn't that the episode with John Edward?
    September 27 09:27 PM
  • Judio! And Rob Schneider is about to learn that being a stapler is harder than it looks!
    September 27 08:31 PM
  • osmark86 ohoy. send me some AOTY candidates willya? I'm in the market for some ballin' metal.
    September 27 08:39 AM
  • CaptainDooRight sweet nig!
    September 26 10:20 PM
  • CaptainDooRight new track would be nice to get your feedback: https://soundcloud.com/therealtrvth/orgasmic-progressing-forests
    September 26 07:21 PM
  • zaruyache upcoming bm you say? Drop me some names bra.
    September 23 11:50 PM
  • Voivod To be honest, I come across a lot of crap as well, but the hunt is worth it nevertheless.
    September 18 04:54 PM
  • Crysis except unlike krallice this guy knows how to write riffs
    September 18 04:54 PM
  • Voivod The Khonsu EP slays and the funny thing is that I saw the cover and the general genre description and decided to give it a listen.
    September 18 03:07 PM
  • Voivod No I didn't know them, they strike me as a more atmospheric version of Red Harvest. I found their bandcamp page, all their albums are free downloads.
    September 18 03:06 PM
  • Voivod I really like V 28, jamming them now, they have all their albums for free downloading at Bandcamp - http://v28band.bandcamp.com
    September 18 08:21 AM
  • Voivod Check out this year's EP by Khonsu, industrial/death/black metal that totally blew me away - http://khonsu.bandcamp.com/album/traveller
    September 18 08:12 AM
  • Voivod Thanks for the rec Karl, will investigate.
    September 18 08:04 AM
  • Crysis Already have - many times in fact. I've been hooked on Katatonia since Dead End Kings so I've been listening to their whole discography. Night is the New Day is really good but I've never been that big on The Great Cold Distance.
    September 17 07:42 PM
  • Crysis i heard about it like 2 or 3 months ago but never bothered to download it until the review was posted here yesterday or whatever... glad i did. it gets better, just wait.
    September 16 08:49 PM
  • Crysis specral lore - III..... thank me later
    September 16 07:02 PM
  • ShadowRemains no, although i do hope to see one eventually
    September 14 02:12 PM
  • EyesWideShut yea dude i caught it a couple nights ago too haha.. anybody who doesnt like T2 is just a pussy tbh.
    September 12 08:01 PM
  • EyesWideShut haha i caught that T2 sample too
    September 12 02:35 AM
  • zaruyache although I heard the rapidgator link on getmetal was faster than the one \/ linked
    September 9 10:27 AM
  • zaruyache that jerk noctus beat me to it ;_; Always check getmetal, though, man. They're pretty much the first place to check for everything.
    September 9 10:26 AM
  • zaruyache jammed the new Darkspace?
    September 8 08:58 PM
  • ExplosiveOranges Ah. Fair enough. Still, you're definitely worthy of any of those titles.
    September 7 10:39 AM
  • ExplosiveOranges It's a shame that you haven't been promoted yet, although I can kinda understand why.
    September 5 10:08 PM
  • ExplosiveOranges Ah. To each their own, man. I've been trying to expand beyond just metal in terms of reviewing, but it doesn't hurt to go back and write one every once in a while. Also: Holy s***, you have been here for a LONG time.
    September 4 09:12 PM
  • zaruyache You might dig. This was posted on Forever Cursed and sounds sorta cascadian-y. http://cepheide.bandcamp.com/album/de-silence-et-de-suie
    September 4 07:56 PM
  • ExplosiveOranges Thanks for the compliment on my Dark Fortress review, man. You don't dig them?
    September 4 07:21 PM
  • evilford good point...just didn't dig the style a whole lot. but it was alright.
    September 1 11:29 PM
  • Voivod Haha I feel like I owe it to you after the At The Grave troll post hahaha!! Check it out like whenever man :-)
    September 1 08:14 AM
  • Voivod Karl If you need an instant fix of Swedish death/Asphyx/Celtic Frost metal, check this - http://gatecreeper.bandcamp.com/. Nothing new under the sun, but it brings the groove on board.
    September 1 08:08 AM
  • evilford lol...I know PI is fairly well-liked in dm circles...I just didn't like the vox and thought the album was a bit run of the mill. just my opinion. :] ..also, I HATED dechristianize, thought it was s*** but let us pray was pretty great man, I thought. sorry!!!
    August 31 01:13 PM
  • emester Thanks for the recs man, I'll check em out soon
    August 29 09:59 PM
  • evilford sup wiz, ever check out that sororicide review? :P also I know how you like dm dude, have you heard excruciate? awesome old school swedeath band
    August 28 02:10 PM
  • Voivod Karl you just have to check this out (like whenever of course), old school death metal with analog sound production and unbelievable drumming - http://portal.xtreemmusic.com/streaming-en-exclusiva-del-album-completo-de-rude-soul-recall/
    August 28 01:16 PM
  • osmark86 ohoy! have you checked out Schammasch - Contradiction? I really don't see how it hasn't blown up amongst the metal crowd here on sput. fantastic album imo.
    August 28 08:42 AM
  • Voivod hahahaha when I was writing I hadn't the slightest clue that it will be seen as a "troll" post. Only when I saw it posted I made the connection with the At The Gates name hahaha.
    August 27 02:01 AM
  • Torontonian used to... not anymore unfortunately. In the States currently. Haha ya i can imagine london is a piece of s***. Anyway Cheers m8
    August 26 10:20 PM
  • Arcade Lol tbh it's now probably a 2.5, 5 in terms of winding up metalheads, 0 in terms of actually being music
    August 26 09:31 AM
  • Arcade made a troll review of Babymetal and instigated about 10 pages worth of s***posting comments. tbh i'm not the sort to complain about punishment where it's deserved so it doesn't bother me really, but yeah, that's the story! (y)
    August 25 10:06 PM
  • zaruyache I probably hate it but rec me some anyway for the lulz
    August 25 11:24 AM
  • evilford I know, I've dl'd so much stuff over the last few months I've completely lost track of what I have anymore
    August 25 10:19 AM
  • evilford lol...it's Disciples of Mockery
    August 24 09:33 PM
  • zaruyache Idk. Unru demo comes off as sort of disorganized to me. I like my hardcore dark and dirty but a little clearer. And I'm a sucker for anything that sounds like s/t Ash Borer so that split was like Christmas to me :3
    August 23 10:51 PM
  • evilford I know dude it's really grown on me the last few months, so ****ing awesome. did you see I rev'd sororicide/actually submitted a review!
    August 23 08:33 PM
  • zaruyache Pfff. Their stuff on the Paramnesia split kicks the crap out of it.
    August 22 09:58 PM
  • Voivod I listened to the new Pallbearer and I'm at 3.5 too, great album, the lead guitars reminded me of sounds from doom/death outfits I hadn't listened to since the '90s (On Thorns I Lay and their two late '90s albums)
    August 22 07:17 AM
  • Voivod Thanks for reading and liking my Essence Beyond review, give the EP a spin like whenever and tell me what you think :-)
    August 21 11:30 AM
  • BMDrummer thanks man, i do my best :]
    August 18 09:50 PM
  • greg84 Yes, it also sort of reminds me of Tool (vocals too). Awesome, very underrated/unheard album!
    August 17 10:33 AM
  • greg84 I remember I also bought that Downer LP very cheaply some time ago. Awesome stuff. I really dig the vocals on it.
    August 17 10:03 AM
  • zaruyache In the middle of the woods? Kvlt m/
    August 16 10:52 PM
  • BigPleb LOL. Palaces man, the riffs reign so supreme on that record! Sacrament does groove very hard though, will jam again tomorrow m/
    August 16 08:25 PM
  • BigPleb I'm excited too man! Loved SOtS and I'm hoping the new record will be a continuation of that sound m/

    August 12 09:44 PM
  • BigPleb Hahaha oh yeah for sure dude. Looking forward to new At the Gates?
    August 10 09:11 AM
  • Jacquibim hey man, when you have time, please check out my latest list, I put much time and effort into it http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=148341
    August 10 05:48 AM
  • BigPleb you're very moody today and trying my patience :/
    August 8 07:37 AM
  • EyesWideShut When Ulver changed directions did you not enjoy their music anymore?
    August 7 11:15 PM
  • Crysis it's probably like a 2.8 now that i'm listening more, but it's def better than heritage
    August 7 05:03 PM
  • BMDrummer props for the Jesus Lizard 5, been thinking about 5ing that one actually
    August 5 11:01 PM
  • TheSpaceMan hey man on the Fantastic Planet thread you mentioned an article that I'm dying to read, howd you happen to acquire it?
    August 5 04:08 PM
  • osmark86 I'm enjoying Voyager a lot more than Fireheart so far. that song was a bit cheesy and I didn't jive with it very mucho. seems inevitable I'll have to jam it a few times, but I've heard way more interesting bm before thus far.
    August 4 09:02 AM
  • osmark86 sounds delightful. til then I'm gonna enjoy the latest Nachtmystium.
    August 4 08:51 AM
  • osmark86 well of course you have ^^. I will give that a go when I'm in the mood for some brooding shiz. recs always appreciated mate.
    August 4 08:43 AM
  • osmark86 yo, I found something I'm pretty sure you would enjoy or at least be intrigued by (mayhapsly). Trepaneringsritualen - Perfection
    August 4 08:27 AM
  • Thanntos Nice man, thanks!! :) I just added you on RYM, too! Should check out some of my lists!
    August 3 04:55 PM
  • BMDrummer Yeah sure, I often bring that point up when people call something progressive that sounds dated as ****
    August 3 10:51 AM
  • zaruyache Doesn't suck so far... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7nYWGoJr5E
    August 3 01:28 AM
  • BMDrummer (continued) biggest rigs, while keeping the genre stagnant. But anyways, Mikael has become an elitist who simply can't move forward unfortunately, it's a shame for such a once amazing band.
    August 2 06:45 PM
  • BMDrummer Never checked his side project with Steve, but yeah prog is completely contradictory at this point. If what he's playing is described as prog (progressive) rock, everyone who calls it that is missing the whole point of the genre's roots. Bands like King Crimson, Camel, and Yes were innovative due to the expansion of the genre, whether you like it or not I guess, but then things like ELP came along and just made the structures complex, sang songs about dragons and s*** like that, and used the big
    August 2 06:44 PM
  • BMDrummer Yeah pretty much, Mikael has basically become one of those idiots who says "there's no good music around anymore" at this point.
    August 2 11:20 AM
  • BMDrummer guess you don't enjoy the new Opeth, probably gonna bump my rating down too. Honestly there's nothing worse than rehashing old ideas with little progression
    August 1 10:42 PM
  • osmark86 hahaha yeah no kidding. I also noticed you dig Merzbow, so I suppose my questioning was redundant. I believe I belong to the less admiring bunch however ;)
    August 1 07:41 AM
  • osmark86 so I happened to see that you dug Wold - Postsocial, which brings me to my most humble inquiry: why?
    August 1 04:59 AM
  • Thanntos You're right, very much a mix of blackgaze and depressive, really been digging on this hard, such a good album!
    July 31 06:03 PM
  • Thanntos I meant classic/old school bm vocals, haha
    July 31 02:57 PM
  • Thanntos I don't rec albums much but I'm gonna go ahead and suggest you take a listen to the new album Ruiner by Griefloss. Blackgaze with classical bm vocals and some cleans. Gonna be an overlooked album
    July 30 03:57 PM
  • osmark86 I wasn't aware. either way I'm glad you enjoy it. I really couldn't ^^
    July 30 02:53 AM
  • osmark86 I'm not even entirely sure...
    July 29 08:25 AM
  • osmark86 mind you it isn't strictly bm at all. it even contains drillnbass gabba influences thrown in for good measure.
    July 29 08:04 AM
  • osmark86 speaking of aneurysms, I feel like I have to have you listen to Cloak of Altering - Plague Beasts. it is one of the most ****ed up "bm" albums I've ever stumbled upon. prepare to be aurally Dresdened. can't say I enjoyed it per se, but I was intrigued.
    July 28 08:43 AM
  • Jacquibim Pleb just had an aneurysm over you latest sound off
    July 28 07:47 AM
  • Crysis Sweet, will check out
    July 25 06:23 PM
  • BMDrummer Haha well to each their own
    July 23 10:32 AM
  • zaruyache You might dig: http://www.stereogum.com/1693642/nightbringer-et-nox-illuminatio-mea-in-deliciis-meis-stereogum-premiere/mp3s/
    July 22 08:30 PM
  • BMDrummer Why the 1 for Petitioning the Empty Sky?
    July 22 04:50 PM
  • sniper it's harder and harder to find good conversation here though
    July 21 10:32 PM
  • sniper agreed, i been around 6 years and always come around just to talk about the s*** i like and occasionally review stuff i feel strongly about. that conversation and consideration of music is the only thing that really matters to me, it's why i still come back here even though most of my old favorite threads are filled with dips***s now. and it's why i can't rate anything anymore, a number feels like too final a judgement for something like an album. i try to force myself to stay open that way.
    July 21 10:26 PM
  • sniper lol you might be. i'd like to think i'm open-minded enough to get over a precious judgement but i'm not sure. glad to hear you dig it though, i always think it's better to love music than feel ambivalent.
    July 21 09:26 PM
  • sniper see i totally agree with that, they definitely translate far better in person. the first time i ever heard them was live, i think it must have been early 2011 because they hadn't written the judah songs yet. i was completely floored. i think the way their records are mixed makes them sound a little bit sterile at times compared to the way they come across live.
    July 20 10:32 PM
  • zaruyache I took chocolate chip cookies from Tops and crunched them up and mixed them with my pancake batter so I could have chocolate chip cookie pancakes. They were decent, 3/5, about as good as new Alraune.
    July 20 07:22 PM
  • sniper hey man, i just noticed your rating for sunbather is at a 4.5 now, just wondering if this is an ironic move or a genuine one. i'm not trying to pick a fight with you about it, just curious. cheers!
    July 19 12:16 PM
  • zaruyache I suppose yes sort of yes. Best part of the album is still the artwork, though 8|
    July 12 04:42 PM
  • osmark86 it sounds odd and rather unique. it's like if King Crimson played bm.
    July 11 08:05 AM
  • osmark86 hello wiz! have you heard the latest Murmur record? must say that I dug it a lot, got that proggy vibe to it. check it out and tell me what you think (or don't, freedom and all that jazz).
    July 10 09:56 AM
  • PiedradeLuna Perfect. Then I'll be getting the most metal Canadian experience ever! haha
    July 10 12:17 AM
  • PiedradeLuna Will do buddy! Would be great to get the tour from the local metalhead haha ;)
    July 9 08:49 PM
  • PiedradeLuna Haha I'll take your word for it Wizard. I really want to make it up there at some point though, in general Canada seems like a really cool place
    July 7 08:08 PM
  • PiedradeLuna Ugh. London, Canada sounds like a harsh place to live man haha
    July 7 06:18 PM
  • PiedradeLuna Ah cool. Not too familiar with that city... is it a big city or on the smaller side? Yeah, Chile is rad if you ever get a chance, don't hesitate to come down here
    July 5 12:07 PM
  • PiedradeLuna Cool! Yeah, glad to hear you like it. I went to a retrospective exhibit of his in Santiago, Chile recently. That's where I discovered him. I'm from Los Angeles originally but am living in Chile at the moment. Ah cool, where about in Canada?
    July 4 11:44 PM
  • PiedradeLuna Sergio Larrain, he's a deceased Chilean photographer. I agree though, it's a haunting image. Lots of his work is in that same vein. Check him out:http://www.exposicionsergiolarrain.cl/
    July 4 08:26 PM
  • PiedradeLuna Thanks Wizard. I'll definitely check them out.
    July 4 11:26 AM
  • zaruyache U shud upload that alraune thing tho. I'm p sure the rip I have is some 128 kbps crap.
    June 28 11:53 PM
  • Ryuujin absolutely. it's a shame it isn't getting more attention here.
    June 28 04:30 PM
  • zaruyache I listened to some of The Austerity Program and wtf this is not good.
    June 27 11:20 PM
  • Crysis yes, i have the promo
    June 25 09:23 PM
  • zaruyache Http://mega.co.nz/ works fine for me. It's the new megaupload and it's pretty cool :]
    June 25 12:18 PM
  • zaruyache upload it and gimme then fool! o: Although I have difficulty telling the difference between bitrates anyway...
    June 25 09:10 AM
  • zaruyache I only listened to the stream you gave and their bandcamp page. It sounds not organic enough. Yeah, "organic" is the word I want to use. Too much "in studio" sound.
    June 24 11:19 PM
  • zaruyache Idk it sounds too... like they did it in a studio and it was mixed by someone who knew what they were doing but too all the chaos out of it. I want LOUD NOISES AND EVIL. Like like like Ash Borer's s/t or Fell Voices cacophony of evilness. Still good but not as gripping for me.
    June 24 12:55 PM
  • zaruyache new Alraune is like 3.3-3.4 :P I think if it would've been rawer/heavier it would've been better. Not gritty enough for me, but the riffs/songwriting are good
