  • lately Don't we all feel that way :], and yet, I'm a cyborg from outter space from a different time. I've traveled light years to inhabit earth in an expedition of insight. You shall be assimilated eventually butt for now I shall learn of your every step because you humans hold an emotional side that is quite intriguing.

  • DarkNoctus it's like the prison albums
    May 22 09:46 PM
  • redskyformiles I think the problem you're having with that Deafheaven record is that you're going in expecting a black metal record. It's not. I wouldn't even say it's blackgaze or whatever the **** it's being called now. It's not a representation, it's an amalgamation. The largest influence on the record is clearly Envy and then it would be Kevin Shields, whose iconic wavy layers of jazzmaster tremolo arm flutters can be heard dripping over every song. If you want a black metal record you're ****ing up.
    May 22 05:47 PM
  • DarkNoctus i don't know, i can't really hear any similarities other than the fact they're both fast - they have much more to do with punk and any black metal comparisons are probably more to do with the background of the members rather than the actual sound itself. :]
    May 22 12:59 PM
  • DarkNoctus vhol is barely black metal whatsoever, it's essentially death-punk. the first deafheaven album was them attempting to be sugar-coated wolves in the throne room without any good riffs, the second album was them trying to be black metal envy with decent riffs and melodies. i prefer the latter. [:

  • Voivod New Thou Art Lord album, Hellenic black metal, check it like whenever: http://nuclearwarnowproductions.bandcamp.com/album/the-regal-pulse-of-lucifer
    May 20 10:19 AM
  • zaruyache Have you heard the new Indricothere? It's like an instrumental less-Krallice-y Krallice.
    May 19 11:09 PM
  • ResidentNihilist Wiz, don't know if you've seen this but;http://www.bravewords.com/news/202417Witherscape: it sounds like it could be Crimson meets Moontower, if the description is anything to go by. Which is awesome.
    May 19 02:51 PM
  • Gyromania cheers for the recs, man. that gorguts album is indeed awesome
    May 15 05:58 PM

  • ShadowRemains cerekloth - in the midst of life we are in death
    May 12 09:40 PM
  • Crysis I've heard the new Immo is pretty lackluster. Have yet to listen to it but I'm in no rush.
    May 12 02:19 PM
  • zaruyache I'll down it to a 4.5/5 when it comes out. Promise.
    May 12 01:51 AM
  • zaruyache Dude The Devil You Know ruled. It had great riffs. I really doubt Tony could lose his steam after coming back so mightily on that release. The only thing that will bring 13 down will be Ozzy, but crappy vocals won't warrant a 1/5 if the riffs are good.
    May 11 03:32 PM
  • zaruyache And I don't really like Drudkh that much anyway. I'll try giving it a more serious listen again soon, but I doubt it'll click any more. :-]
    May 11 01:13 AM
  • zaruyache 3.5. I HAVE SPOKEN!
    May 11 01:12 AM
  • Willie Ha ha. The only problem is that I can't seem to find you on there.

    May 5 03:41 PM
  • Hyperion1001 hell yeah, i wish i'd gotten promos of that album, its one of my favorites ever.
    April 30 08:20 PM
  • Hyperion1001 seeing you say you love Boards of Canada made me happier than anything else today has.
    April 30 05:44 PM
  • Tyrael Yea snoop thinks Bob Marley has reincarnated in him and thats why he made a reggae album or something... There are some good tunes on it but bleh, at least he didn't go all dancehall on us I guess
    April 24 11:40 AM
  • geasoftime Well, since we seem to be on opposite ends of the spectrum as far as music is concerned, perhaps you should check out the 2/3s of the list you haven't heard starting at the bottom. Or not, it doesn't matter to me.. I was just trying to be helpful. The reason Amorphis was on there twice was because I had initially rated it a 4, and decided to bump it down to a 3.5. I forgot to the initial rating.
    April 20 12:32 PM
  • LilLioness I have something you may want to check. It is BM filtered through Nobuo Uematsu (almost literally)http://www.cvltnation.com/smohalla-omega-centauri/
    April 19 06:29 PM
  • geasoftime I noticed that you said this has been "a fairly ok year for metal" on LilLioness' shoutbox, and I have felt that this year has been amazing for metal. So, I thought perhaps you hadn't heard alot of the same releases I have, so I wanted to link you to my 2013 list on RYM. ( http://rateyourmusic.com/list/ashesofman/best_of_2013__a_work_in_progress_ ) It's primarily metal, and perhaps you'll see some releases you didn't know about.
    April 19 10:27 AM
  • LilLioness Well, it is Killswitch so it is what it is. I didn't bother listening to it, because I am pretty sure I would 3 it. And while some may think that is strange or doesn't make sense, just because I think some things are okay doesn't mean I enjoy going out of my way to listen fully to things I feel are okay. Anything you are looking forward to in the coming months?
    April 18 10:22 PM
  • LilLioness You gave Killswitch a pretty high score. ;)
    April 18 10:24 AM
  • jingledeath haha nice, I've lost touch with most of my sputnik contacts. Only person I still get to talk to now and then is Fireaboveicebellow.
    April 17 12:29 PM
  • evilford hah no it's Mitch Hedberg. awesome comedian. one of the most unique there were. he died in 2005 but he was funny as s***, check some of his stuff out if you've never heard of him...
    April 17 10:15 AM
  • conesmoke LOL! who said this to u?? "**** your dick wiz" that's a hilarious statement haha
    April 17 09:13 AM
  • JAV Yea Precambrian has lost a bit of its punch but I still enjoy it a lot. Can't listen to it over and over like I used to for sure.
    April 16 11:51 AM
  • Hawks It's jaytown0405@aol.com. I appreciate it dude.
    April 15 03:15 PM
  • Hawks Oh alright sweet. Thanks my man.
    April 14 09:38 PM
  • 666Micrograms hows life brotha?
    April 14 03:59 PM
  • Hawks Hey dude where'd you get that Sacriphyx album from? Just saw your soundoff for it and I really wanna check it out.
    April 14 01:59 PM
  • JAV I thought instrumentals were pretty good, not sure if I'll have the same opinion once the vocal version comes out. Feels a bit Fogdiver.
    April 13 12:01 PM
  • jingledeath yeah man, those were the days! This site is definitely a lot crapier than it used to be but I still get to find some good stuff off here now and then. I would definitely still be posting if most of the old crew were still active though. are you still in touch with any of them?
    April 12 07:28 PM
  • JAV So I'm curious what you think of Pelagial.
    April 11 11:21 PM
  • jingledeath Kind of retired from blogging after The Celestial Manifest got taken down haha. I'm pretty content with lurking and keeping track of my music on RYM. Probably won't start posting here again but who knows I might change my mind eventually. How's life been treating you?
    April 10 11:51 AM
  • jingledeath yup, alive and kicking dude. SUPP
    April 9 05:04 PM
  • Insurrection oh i definitely do. it rules hard
    April 6 11:18 PM
  • CaptainDooRight haha cool right on, sounds like a load of fun and that's cool you're teaching her to hang with the boyz, I can't wait until my son can fight back more haha, always wanted a sparring buddy ;]
    April 5 03:01 PM
  • CaptainDooRight oh sorry dude. I don't know why I automatically assumed your child was a boy. My bad man. Well that's awesome bro and 4 sounds like a really fun age. I can't wait until my son reaches that age, he just seems to be getting more and more fun as he gets older. I really actually do want a daughter too but my lady doesn't wanna have anymore kids so what r u gonna do lol. That's awesome you don't cliche your daughter with media mainstream crap. mainstream pop is queef. Ok I'll jam new soilwork more :]
    April 4 12:28 PM
  • CaptainDooRight Dam really bro, thank you. That really means a lot. I'm really glad that the length weren't deterring. That was one of the things I couldn't help but wonder. I'm glad it clicked for you bro and hey didn't know you have a son. I do too, mines only 2 1/2 but he loves music too. How old is yours? I didn't know we had that in common bro.
    April 3 01:01 PM
  • CaptainDooRight Dam bro that really does mean a lot coming from you. Seriously. I'm the sole member bro I play everything myself including drums except I choose to use studio quality programmed loops on the first 4 tracks but I did the drums myself on the last 3 tracks. Also I produced it myself too. Again, thanks for your response.
    April 2 10:15 PM
  • Voivod You were right, Sacriphyx are awesome. Saw your soundoff about them and speaking of doom, I reviewed this some days ago, female fronted experimental doom metal from Greece - http://universe217.bandcamp.com/
    April 2 07:11 PM
  • Voivod listening to this right now, pretty primordial stuff - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stBI2ab9uyQ
    April 2 07:05 PM
  • Voivod Agnes Vein are from my home town, saw them live as a support act for Madder Mortem, indeed really intense act.
    April 2 06:54 PM
  • Voivod Hey Wizard can you give this - http://agnesvein.bandcamp.com/ - a spin like whenever and tell me what you think? Agnes Vein are described as a mix of Bathory with Neurosis.
    April 2 04:54 PM
  • ShadowRemains saw on last.fm that they don't expect one for quite some time
    April 2 03:10 PM
  • ShadowRemains reminds me of arghoslent a bit
    April 2 02:26 PM
  • ShadowRemains nope they can't, its an oxymoron that holds true

  • XGX can't go wrong with LLN
    April 1 07:01 PM
  • XGX You either go with Remains of a dead, ruined, cursed soul.... Or Vampires. The latter one is usually celebrated for its hilariously awesome cover art, but the music is just as good. If you dig raw, pure, nihilistic black metal you'll love them.
    April 1 07:00 PM
  • XGX hey wiz, are you a fan of mutiilation?
    April 1 05:04 AM
  • 666Micrograms ya buddy, itll be worth your time. theyre a canadian tech death band. they have songs at 350bpm and such, really tight stuff. plus theyre recording their sophmore album right now. ya check em out bud

  • Vakarian12 finished with the changes to the MAYH review, let me know what you think http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/55900/Opeth-My-Arms,-Your-Hearse/
    March 26 11:42 AM
  • AngelofDeath Thanks, brother. I think it's a guy in my avatar, though lol.
    March 25 12:52 AM
  • LilLioness You may enjoy this: http://www.cvltnation.com/jgbc-stream/
    March 18 04:37 PM
  • 666Micrograms Thats wicked man, I always respect a band a lot more when I hear they're genuinely cool down to earth people too.
    March 17 08:02 PM
  • Crysis The Eye of Every Storm
    March 17 10:39 AM
  • 666Micrograms aint that the truth. on the contrary, i got some Nadja on the way, im giddy as fvck
    March 17 12:04 AM
  • 666Micrograms yo I know your not that into tech. death but as a fellow Canadian and a drummer I think you should hear this. Its only their debut album too...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJ0ywADnTxohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJsBOPdQsuo
    March 15 11:33 AM
  • IpodMastery Hey dude, you got 2013 doom recs?
    March 12 01:19 AM
  • Voivod Right on, I've never heard a fusion of industrial and doom before.
    March 11 04:17 PM
  • Voivod Glad you liked it, I've sent the link to Trey Spencer as well who has a soft spot for industrial stuff.
    March 11 04:10 PM
  • Voivod As I know that you like lo-fi, rotten stuff, I think you may like this - http://www.metalsucks.net/2013/03/08/exclusive-premiere-stream-the-new-batillus-album-concrete-sustain-in-full/ - I've posted the link as a news item in the front page.
    March 11 02:19 PM
  • Metalstyles If they release a new album this year and no-one from the staff take on the task of reviewing it, you can bet your ass I'll take that up! And I agree, the acoustics are brilliant on Nostalgia.
    March 11 04:32 AM
  • My thoughts are that it is indeed a very, very cool album and I love the instrumentation. The only negative thing I can say, I guess, is that it hasn't emotionally clicked with me in a way that some other, possibly instrumentally way less impressive albums have. Regardless, I do think it is a mighty fine album.
    March 9 09:20 AM
  • Metalstyles I'm always glad when I can positively surprise The Wizard, but I already have that Gwynbleidd album and I do like it a lot. I have just forgotten to rate it, that's all.
    March 8 03:28 PM
  • LilLioness If you haven't checked this, check it: http://www.cvltnation.com/black-mare-field-of-the-host-stream/
    March 6 02:57 PM
  • LilLioness You have been very busy. XD That is the problem with the remixes. Sometimes they work and sometimes they feel way out of line with the source material. Not everyone has Reznor's ear for strong music.
    March 6 08:32 AM
  • LilLioness You gave fixed a 3 just because I said I dig it more than broken, didncha? :P What's Nadja?
    March 5 08:46 PM
  • 666Micrograms hey man I got axe you a question. I've looked everywhere online for this info but nothings turned up so far. My None So Vile cd, hammerheart records reprint, has a misprint. The shoulder of the album reads None To Vile. Isnt that ****ed up?
    March 3 12:37 PM
  • 666Micrograms and yea i now they broke up, its a real shame two, i feel like they had another superb album left in them. if i can find some VHOL ill check it out, but I just got a s***load of merch for my bday, check my list
    February 28 08:09 PM
  • 666Micrograms I've heard em all, Fas and Paracletus are 5s for me, something about their grandoisity captivates, as much as i love their eps, i feel those two lps represent DSO at their darkest and most creative.
    February 28 08:02 PM
  • Anthracks thx bro most people just think im being a dick
    February 27 09:02 PM
  • 666Micrograms Also I got Ludicra on your recomendation and I liked it so much i gave it a review. finally the tenant has one: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/55316/Ludicra-The-Tenant/
    February 27 06:49 PM
  • 666Micrograms ya it seems as though people are confusing production values with accessibility. songwriting wise its off the ****ing wall. the production is awesome too, almost s*** the bed when i cranked it.
    February 27 06:01 PM
  • 666Micrograms vexovoid - discuss...
    February 26 10:53 PM
  • IpodMastery That and there may just be a higher amount of metal to be had in the end of year list.
    February 25 09:28 PM
  • IpodMastery Nup, I'm a nubie : ]
    February 25 09:21 PM
  • 666Micrograms well this semester is basically a holiday for me, for life ain't too stressful. I know it wont last tho so im making the most of it, with a s***load of music lol. Imma check out that Eight Bells album, sounds promising
    February 25 10:34 AM
  • IpodMastery hey dude : ]
    February 25 07:56 AM
  • 666Micrograms hows life bro?
    February 24 01:07 PM
  • TheSpirit Me too dude. Once I get a laptop again, we can definitely get another kickass site going
    February 23 01:46 AM
  • TheSpirit Yeah man, their older stuff is some of my favorite metalcore. I think they were totally underrated at the time
    February 22 05:59 PM
  • LilLioness Ah, so you love The Fragile? :D It is one of my all time fave albums. I will admit to loving With Teeth and preferring fixed over broken as well. With Teeth hits some really great notes with me (although, I think it would have been better with "Home" left in even if it made the record a little long). Ultimately, I think given he is a father now in a seemingly stable marriage, the old NIN is pretty much dead. I can't seem him writing even a modern day Pretty Hate Machine.
    February 21 09:28 PM
  • LilLioness Well, maybe not completely. The review I wrote got taken down (unless for some reason it is processing or some s***) so I guess at writing. Or something. Eh, well, it frees up some priorities. Speaking of Reznor, was it The Fragile that lost your interest?
    February 21 12:28 PM
  • LilLioness I strongly disagree. Reznor is my second favorite musician (behind Devin Townsend) and I haven't been disappointed since broken. Yorke is a bit more inconsistent in my eyes, but Kid A is one of my all time fav albums.
    February 20 05:54 PM
  • LilLioness Atoms for Peace-Thom Yorke, Flea, Nigel Godrich. How to Destroy Angels-Trent Reznor, Mariqueen Maandig, Atticus Ross.
    February 20 10:11 AM
  • LilLioness Well, I listened to Atoms for Peace and HTDA yesterday. I wasn't expecting them to be equally underwhelming.
    February 20 12:18 AM
  • LilLioness It is true. I mean I comprehend the social desire to fit in (even in an anonymous setting), but on some level this site counts as a producer of "professional reviews". I feel as if that is enough justification to tone down the arguing and trolling to a minimum and focus on giving an accurate portrayal of the reception of the albums that make it on here. From what I have seen, it has not been completely accurate.
    February 19 08:22 AM
  • LilLioness And you are welcome. :D Releases like Eight Bells are why I am happy I wade through so many sites (Pitchfork, Stereogum, Spin, Cvltnation, Heavyblogisheavy, Metal Insider, Metalsucks, Metal Injection, Headbang or GTFO, Themonolith). Lots of meh, but occasional gems.
    February 18 09:36 PM
  • LilLioness I will be honest. All grind/fast music kinda sounds the same to me. I just do a lil jig and enjoy myself. I remember being a wee lass...7 years ago (damn...already 7 years :[) listening to Mercury hour on XMLM and digging the s*** out of it, despite the fact that those bands (like Hacavitz, Mortician, Vehemence, etc) aren't the best bands in the world.
    February 18 09:33 PM
  • 666Micrograms I've decided to soundoff every album I rate
    February 18 04:34 PM
  • LilLioness I have to give it a couple more listens over the next week before I can tell ya my feels on it. Check this (1 song) out. http://braveyoungofficial.bandcamp.com/track/sunday-december-31-1995 Very post, but like the other thing doesn't over do it. Well, as long as growing feedback doesn't seem too cliche.
    February 17 11:48 PM
  • 666Micrograms ya i figure i listen to enough black metal to make it worth my while. maybe ill hit up the pawn shop
    February 17 06:00 PM
  • 666Micrograms besides, isn't the resale value absurd with his tapes? Im more concerned about that seeing how I dont even have a tape deck
    February 17 12:03 PM
  • 666Micrograms I only payed $13
    February 17 12:02 PM
  • LilLioness Maybe it is just me, but it isn't sounding all that mathy. Def mo sludge with unusual riffing. It is quite interesting.
    February 17 11:24 AM
  • LilLioness I actually really like DEP, but I know what you mean. I will check them out.
    February 17 11:07 AM
  • 666Micrograms im sure itll be fantastical as anything theyve made. just ordered my copy too, along with impetuous ritual and ash borer's s/t. Jumped on one of those new paysage d'hiver tapes too.
    February 16 11:34 AM
  • LilLioness You are welcome. :D Nah, I haven't. What are they like?
    February 15 11:58 PM
  • 666Micrograms have had a chance to spin vexovoid yet? I just ordered it off PLR
    February 15 08:35 PM
  • LilLioness http://www.metalinsider.net/new-music/exclusive-stream-listen-to-eight-bells-the-captains-daughter Tell me what you think.
    February 15 03:49 PM
  • 666Micrograms new guttural secrete out! hop on that shiiit
    February 15 12:31 AM
  • LilLioness I have no idea, but someone definitely did. It is still not showing up on their page when I load it.
    February 13 10:30 PM
  • Insurrection I think you'd enjoy this. It's very Meshuggah-esque: https://soundcloud.com/octopus-band/sets/into-the-void-of-fear
    February 13 07:32 PM
  • LilLioness Well, I guess someone removed Pitch Black. I was about to give it a number and now it is gone.
    February 13 10:23 AM
  • DarkNoctus no, they haven't, but i am hoping for it. thanks anyway, though! [:
    February 11 07:51 AM
  • 666Micrograms aluk todolo was ****ing cool man. imo a little too long and drawn out, but for the most part interesting things were happening throughout. the bass was off the wall, as was snare work
    February 10 07:08 PM
  • AngelofDeath Just haven't had a whole lot of time lately to put any together. Plus, there haven't been too many things worth reviewing the last few months. But I think with the slew of great releases coming in the next month or so, I'll be able to make time to pen something down.
    February 10 07:04 PM
  • Voivod The sound of Negatron and Phobos is hardly explored in full and they could legitimately go there. Snake could fit in their industrial era too.
    February 9 05:14 PM
  • Voivod And go some place else...
    February 9 05:06 PM
  • Voivod Dan Mongrain has done a wonderful job but I consider this album to be his awesome master thesis. The next one will prove if he is gonna be a Doctor of Philosophy for Voivod. I expect them not to visit again their classic period.
    February 9 04:50 PM
  • Voivod I liked it a lot, especially the mud in the guitars. Checking their album to my "to listen to" list.
    February 9 03:42 PM
  • Voivod I agree about the production of some Voivod albums, but I humbly beg to differ about the song writing. I will listen to the YouTube link and report back ;)
    February 9 03:29 PM
  • Voivod http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8zbC-JhFZ8
    February 9 02:47 PM
  • Voivod http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EspVFMQeFvQ
    February 9 02:46 PM
  • Voivod I will review Windfaerer when I find some time, indeed it is awesome, that intro song is awesome, not that everything else isn't. As for the last Voivod album, it is excellent, but it's beneath album such as The Outer Limits and Phobos. Did you listen to that Acrimonious song link i sent you?
    February 9 02:44 PM
  • LilLioness Well, tbh, given how lazy Koloss was, I am starting to get the impression Shug doesn't care as much these days.
    February 8 03:46 PM
  • 666Micrograms this site makes me sad sometimes. Honor Found In Decay at 3.7? Seriously? Album rules ridiculously hard
    February 7 10:00 PM
  • LilLioness "Dancers" has been one of my fave shug songs since obZen came out and I think "Pitch Black" is fairly decent. I was hoping for more from the EP, but given that it is free I don't fee jipped. That being said, I also wouldn't really give it even a 4.
    February 6 07:44 PM
  • 666Micrograms imma just be snaggin a hoodie off indiemerch then. i cant wear my cynic hoodie everyday. Ya indesinence was a hella good time, its like lucid doom metal or something of that ilk
    February 6 06:02 PM
  • 666Micrograms whats the best place to buy metal hoodies online for us canadians? thats takes paypal...
    February 6 10:26 AM
  • Insurrection Very true. They also put out the new Arsis EP if I remember correctly, dunno if you're a fan of them but I think its far better than the Meshuggah one
    February 5 10:39 PM
  • Insurrection Yeah I heard the first song and it was pretty eh. Really lazy release
    February 5 01:13 PM
