| hal1ax also, i think some ppl will manipulate themselves into thinking the homeless choose to live the way they live, so that they then detest them for it, because the alternative, sympathy / affection / generosity, requires effort and time and an overall shift in perception. it's much easier to take a shallow, specious view of something easy to understand than to have to really unravel something

| hal1ax well, there is a sophistic stigma regarding mentally dysfunctional ppl and violence, bolstered up by the media, etc etc. many ppl buy into that, they're always vigilant around the homeless as if they could snap at anytime.. again, this is the result of a lack of understanding regarding mental d/o. also, again, if someone thinks these ppl are choosing to live this lifestyle over contributing to society, they will harbor resentment instead of sympathy / empathy.

| hal1ax i think there is a lot of interplay between how most ppl view mental disorder and how most ppl view the homeless. they're prob seen as a plight mostly out of an apocryphal and inflated sense of ignorance / fear.

| hal1ax and i mean, think about this, someone with schizophrenia or bipolar or even a bad alcoholic, will need help for the rest of their lives... they'll need some sort of social ballast upon which to stand. that's a ton of work.. a ton of self-sacrifice... most ppl don;t feel like the time and energy required to rehabilitate them is worth it, and i think this feeling of futility maybe fuels their repudiation and scorn toward them.
