| evilford I've been good man, how about you? It really has been years!
| Rowan5215 shoot staff a message in the meds thread my dude, the mods should be able to or combine a review for ya
| GodLovesUgly Awesome, I'll check it out now. Yea I'm not sure why The Foundation is labeled as The Resurrection here. Also it's always great to see some love for Southern Hip Hop, a lot of people sleep on it.
| DaHound Loving the All My Heroes Are Dead rating [2\ ahrd
| GodLovesUgly Haha oh true yea I did read that one, nice work. Yea those features definitely got me pretty pumped as well and yea I agree on Rivers, R.A was saying he outdid Legends Never Die but this one is still so much better then I could have ever expected, seriously just on another level.
| Drifter If you ever check the album MAKE SURE you listen to the og 1994 edition the "King George" version
| Drifter P's dope man. Ever try Ghetto D? It's my fav Nola era p but the ghettos tryin to kill me is from when he was in Richmond ca so it's g funk and he actually gave a f about rapping and some quite emotional lyrics. Try bastard child, very emotional song.
| Drifter Damn bruh u need to get rowdy rowdy bout it bout it
| Drifter You ever listen to much no limit? They're kind of an acquired taste but I love them lol
| Drifter Haven't heard Soul Food and I've heard Mystic Stylez but it's been over 2 years and I didnt like it much. I gave their when the smoke clears album a 3.5 though.
| Drifter Yeah I'm sure location would play a big part in it. As far as southern regions go I've only heard a lot from new Orleans and some from Houston. Haven't spent a lot of time with atl or Memphis
| Drifter Yeah I'm not the biggest outkast guy. I feel like they're just hard growers. Still good though. Ridin Dirty has so much pressure on it for me lol. Like it's dope but idk I don't have a connection with it yet
| Drifter Wouldn't be surprised lol. Yeah idk about Soopafly his voice is too high pitched. I thought maybe lil c style who has a verse on it but the voice isn't quite the same. I think its actually a guy from oftb I just remembered that. Peep the song that was then this is now ft kurupt and snoop. Hella underrated song btw straight bars the whole way. See if one of the guys sounds close to you
| Drifter Haha yeah. I've got the one that it mentions. They fold it into the size of a big 2cd box and compress every bit of air from it lol. I like the chorus. I still don't know who does it tbh. I don't recognize his voice
| Drifter You ever listen to that link?
| Drifter I meant to listen to it this past weekend but I didnt get around to it. The two singles I heard were hard though
| Drifter Peep the link I put in your rappers who never slacked list. You'll enjoy it
| Rowan5215 ah. shame but can't say I'm too surprised. seems like his solo work after the debut was pretty lukewarm
| Rowan5215 damn had no idea solo Deck was coming. will def check but it's such a shame he never got a RZA-produced debut back in the 90s, could have been an absolute classic
| Rowan5215 that s*** is classic. his bars on Criminology are about the same level for me. some absolutely head-spinning lines right there
| Rowan5215 **** that sounds tight. no way a dude with as much humour as Del would be an asshole for sure. and yeah Ghost is best Wu member and a top 3 rapper overall for me, dude's consistency and diversity is absolutely insane. he's the main reason OB4CL is a classic to me
| Rowan5215 nice Twelve Reasons to Die rating too, album is bueno
| Rowan5215 hella good review, had no idea Del was involved with that movement damn. only know him from Deltron 3030 lol, which is a classic
| Rowan5215 did not know that lol. I remember reading Nas got a lot of Rakim comparisons when his first verse but dropped but never even considered the G Rap comparison
| Rowan5215 yeah I remember getting massively into Juice Crew for a bit lol, Daddy Kane and Polo in the same crew is still kind of insane all these years later
| Rowan5215 it has been a long minute since I jammed him/them, lmao, and I don't know if I even heard all the stuff. thought his first one with Polo was the best by far, before his voice deepened and he went for the horrorcore thing that was a lot less original than the sound they started with, imo
| Rowan5215 I'm here every day lmao, good to see you round tho! hope all is well with ya
| Rowan5215 on it lad! good to see ya round these parts
| Drifter Check Rappin' 4-Tay - Off Parole and Daz Dillinger - Tha Dogg Pound Gangsta Lp and Big Syke - Be Yo Self before I cry please
| Rowan5215 sick review dude. there's some formatting stuff and run-on sentences in the third and fourth paras that could definitely be cleaned up. but you lay out the case for the album really well and put it into the context of hip-hop really well. good stuff
| Rowan5215 I heard undun I think it was and thought it was fantastic, super emotional. long time ago though. I don't know if you watch Mr Robot but Joey Badass is on it and he's ****ing hilarious as an actor
| Rowan5215 nice one. black thought is i really need to listen to more but that discog is so daunting lmao. btw I did get that Joey Badass mixtape I just haven't had a chance to check it yet
| Rowan5215 3 stacks for sure. dude's evolution over the discography is just absolutely insane. eyedea and ghostface would be my second and third picks. what about you lad
| Rowan5215 lol does anyone like that album really? i mean Framed took me back to the Relapse days, and I thought the last two songs had a decent amount of emotion to em. everything else was just trash. em's super choppy fill and rick rubin dad rap rock beats
| Drifter Step Up is wild. I paid $13 for the cd single of In The End for it haha
| Rowan5215 lmao the classic quick response! i gotta peep that and also check that new Big Boi album, didn't even know it was out
| Rowan5215 ah nah, I thought about it but I heard his last album was a bit of a letdown so that put me off a bit. will definitely bump
| frigyourgenre I sorta feel like they are just on auto-pilot at this point the record is still great nevertheless
| frigyourgenre i mean i wish they went more experimental tho like on oneirogy that record blew my lid
| Rowan5215 all I ever needed to hear! much love dude
| Rowan5215 hope I get a stamp of approval for this one lmao http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/75146/Wu-Tang-Clan-The-Saga-Continues/
| Rowan5215 thanks man really appreciate it, I'm not on much these days either (discord slash uni has taken over my life)
| evilford and thanks man it's good to be back imma try to not be a stranger.
| evilford cool man yeah I'll have to check, I've heard more people than you praising it too. I'll probably be on a metal bender but I'll try to fit some hip hop in too lol
| Drifter I mean as far as your sput account lol. I always thought you were from at LEAST 2015 or 2014
| Drifter I just realized how not old you are (:
| evilford Sweet dude. Yeah I like mf a lot. Haven't heard him in a while though. Mostly gang starr these days lol
| evilford I know man. How u been? Honestly I don't have much time lately but when I get the chance I'm still pretty exclusively jamming outkast and wu lol
| evilford lol...I mean I guess if I had to choose one I'd have to go w/ Chuck. Death is my s***. both of their deaths were huge tragedies tho rip
| evilford nice. I'm not huge on mamacita but besides that, aquemini is just immaculate
| evilford actually haven't even heard it yet! seriously I can't stop listening to wu and kast
| evilford Yeah I'll be checking gravediggaz soon. Top 3 would probably be outkast, ugk and gang starr? They count?
| Drifter Haha I knew it was a joke. All good dude
| NeroCorleone80 haven't really listened to much of their solo stuff tbh, but I recall not liking them as much as UGK they just work better together
| evilford yeah it's cool I'll get back into non-outkast/wu-tang stuff soon probably lol.
| evilford cool. I may just check the albums, K-Rino is excellent anyways. but I'm currently just on an outkast bender lol. been listening to them nonstop
| evilford agreed hard. andre's peaks are probably higher but big boi has always been solid af I feel and underappreciated cuz of andre
| evilford cool both from alien baby? I'll probably just check the album here soon
| evilford cool. overall I guess andre is probably better but I am attached to big boi cuz I bought speakerboxxx/the love below when it came out and just had speakerboxxx on in my car non-stop for like 2 years lol. so good
| evilford yeah I checked sir lucious left foot, was solid but I wasn't crazy about it. but I'll be listening more. and yeah I'll probably check idlewild soon. re: contact np dude yea I got busy too, goin thru some s*** w/ the gf, I'll spare u the details but trying to foster that relationship as much as possible plus havin my 3 kids 9 days in a row lol
| evilford sup dood long time no talk lol. is idlewild worth checking?
| evilford Ah yeah I can feel that. There's no such thing as too manly but u dont have to be "manly" to be a badass
| evilford Lol there's no such thing as too manly
| evilford Yeah it's 2 am here I'm jammin binary star lol. Nice song haha...also I smoked an actual cigar earlier does that count? **** I'm old
| evilford Lmao yeah it's not too crazy here but oh well. And that's a hard burn man sorry rip
| evilford Yeah I noticed. Awareness is intelligence
| evilford Sounds like you're having a good night haha
| evilford True. Doesn't always work out like it should
| evilford Lol. I'd like to go to the good place. But I am a sinner (soulseek user)
| evilford Lol. Actually int'l players anthem was one of the songs I liked most :D that was the one feat. Outkast right?
| evilford but that's just how I felt about it on one listen. I understand how you love it/them and I don't want to put out any digs on it.... but it didn't feel like a 5 or 4.5. for me, sorry :[ but I will listen again and again :D
| evilford I felt like instrumentally it was really great but samey in spots. honestly lyrically I wasn't a huge fan, there was some that was ok but overall it's pretty far from ridin dirty for me : / but idk like I said I'll be revisiting it
| evilford um not sure lol. don't worry I'll def be revisiting it, and I'll check ur rev
| evilford heh heh gud joke :P. and that's cool re: chuck, it doesn't surprise me either cuz he's rapped over slayer and anthrax riffs among others and I did love that.
| evilford lol. what are your thoughts on tpab? or have you heard?
| evilford and most of the hip hop I've heard is from the 90s (I think...) cuz that's been the style I've dug the most so far. so I can't speak to the recent trends in hip hop but I hope lyricism isn't dying out because yeah that's one of the things I value most in hip hop.
| evilford idk I mean maybe it means we're oldheads because we value stuff that a newer generation generally doesn't as much, but I wouldn't care if that's what I'm labeled as (and I'm sure you wouldn't either). and yeah I'm new to kendrick and he's not the best lyricist ever and his voice can be just a LIL grating but his ideas are valuable to me I think...and the production on tpab was just lovely
| evilford the political stuff is interesting and important tho but yeah as music, public enemy wasn't as entertaining as they could have been for me, idk. that's how I feel about them
| evilford yes I feel you. I'm kind of scared of newer hip hop, like waka flocka flame, chief keef etc stuff like that, people seem really torn on idk, I'm scared that emceeing skills went away. and obviously public enemy was important as hell. but yeah they don't jam super hard. their stuff is good, don't get me wrong. but the beats are kinda minimal and chuck d wasn't the most interesting lyricist idk
| evilford the chorus in one of his songs is "gettin high, gettin high get get gettin high, smokin blunts smokin blunts smokin blunts smokin blunts" etc
| evilford would it? idk I mean I don't think he is to be taken seriously, pretty sure his stuff is trap satire or something
| evilford cool. what do you think of lil ugly mane?
| evilford plus I use last.fm and I know I can scrobble from my ipod but idk if u can do that w/ spotify? never tried, I just like having all my music in one place I guess
| evilford word...and I think soulseekqt is just the name of the program, same thing, not sure tho. and yeah I've never used spotify but I know a lot of users use it and it works real good. I've defaulted to soulseek cuz like I said I like to possess what I listen to and I just don't have the money right now to spend on music. I used to and I'd just buy straight from the istore
| Typhoon24 also i use spotify and it's generally awesome im just looking for something else
| Typhoon24 oh i downloaded soulseakqt im trying something else. and cheers on us being friends ! i knew it but it's safer to be polite lol
| evilford re: the library on soulseek though, I have been using it for almost 3 years I think and can only think of maybe 2 albums I haven't been able to find, it's been invaluable.
| evilford nah it's fine dude lol not tmi...at this point I'd consider you one of my friends on here so yeah that wasn't tmi or anything...as far as the friend request goes...I didn't even know you could friend request on soulseek......weird. I can't find it....
| evilford yeah totally agreed with that, I got 3 kids too. less is more a lot of the time. soulseek is great, kinda like napster/kazaa but more reliable as far as I understand. I'm not a huge fan of piracy I guess, but I like to possess the music I listen to so I work with what I got.
| evilford oh god no I'm broke af. I use soulseek. I wish I could afford to buy stuff I dig cuz I would I just can't do that right now
| evilford I'm still kinda digesting AotEM but I remember the songs u mentioned being really good. and yeah I dl'd jedi mind tricks a few days ago so will check today :]
| evilford yeah both of my fav hip hop albums are from 98 :]
| evilford nice I'll have to check Shad out. also yeah, from what I've heard, it seems like I definitely dig 90s hip hop the most.
| evilford you thought about rating everything you've heard? I know it can be a huge undertaking...would be interesting to see where you stand on everything
| evilford Huh interesting alright I'll check it
| evilford Yeah I probably should try to slow down a bit. I've just got this insatiable hunger for hearing new s*** now tho idk. But yeah I think I have jammed outkast every day for the last week and a half and I don't see that changing.
| evilford coulda been Ice-T's O.G. too. god I've listened to so much hip hop over the last two weeks lol. I have a lot of re-visiting to do
| evilford fear of a black planet I think mainly, I'm assuming the news clips used were real. even if they weren't, it's not too far-fetched to think that some white power or other idiots would think that way. seems like it was another album too w/ news clips maybe Ice Cube's debut
| evilford can't remember what album that was that periodically chronicled old news coverage of black inner city crime, that's gonna drive me nuts now
| evilford for sure yeah. and I didn't mean it's all facade. it obvs differs from person to person in how much persona it is and how much real it is. it's sad how people in the mainstream/media/whatever (referenced on some songs I heard recently) just write off those struggles as them being mindless thugs and not taking into account what they actually have to deal w/ on a daily basis etc
| evilford yeah, I like stuff like that tho, shows humanity through the G facade they sometimes have or whatever, adds depth to their character imo. that makes me even more interested to check it. and yeah death til death lol
| evilford and I gotta say, like you said before, it's pretty sweet that we share so much of the same taste w/ outkast, gang starr, wu-tang, k-rino etc. nice to have people to chat w/ whose taste is so similar.
| evilford yeah. definitely will be checking out more of his stuff in the coming days/weeks. and I'll check out that 2005 z-ro album.
| evilford really appreciate all the hip hop knowledge/recs you've been droppin on me, it definitely helps the journey in several ways :]
| evilford and maybe z-ro is too, I will listen again a few times but it was hard to catch what he was rapping cuz he was going so fast lol
| evilford heard look what you did to me. wasn't huge on the fast-spitting style but it's obvious he's quite talented. the 4.0 I gave it was kind of a more "objective" rating I guess...wasn't feeling it hugely, it was good but I could see that it was well-done so I thought a 4 was about right. but the k-rino rec was right on the money, that dude is a rhyming/lyrical genius
| evilford oh lol cool. looks like it was made for the compilation album. I will check it out
| evilford he was gunned down in harlem by his house right?
| evilford I feel like the most talented loss that I know of was Biggie. but they're all sad for sure, gone too soon.
| evilford awesome, still remember seeing the Triumph music vid for the first time on MTV and being blown away lol. love that song
| evilford what was wu's set like? that's sweet u saw meth n red, Blackout! is one of my favorite albums from way back in high school haha
| evilford damn that's awesome where'd you see them?
| evilford Haha nice. Great minds think alike.
| evilford I really like gza's voice and accent I think. And yeah he's great lyrically
| evilford Damn lol. Yeah I really dug tpab but its styles expanded far beyond hip hop itself
| evilford Hey man what do you think of kendrick?
| evilford yeah. u heard all of k-rino's stuff?
| evilford dude if you haven't you should get in on the "sputnik's fave rapper tourney" or whatever it's called, it's on the first page.
| evilford yeah from what I've heard I think he does. production hasn't been the best from what I've heard but he's got excellent flow and is fantastic lyrically. not k-rino level but that's probably not fair.
| evilford hey man u dig masta ace? really gettin into him atm. sad that disposable arts doesn't have a rev..
| evilford Yeah early mastodon and e wiz count, not sure about kyuss although they're great. I love sludge but yeah it may be better to jam sporadically, hip hop so far I can just jam all damn day
| evilford Lol yeah idk. All I know is Ive loved metal for a long time and I'm really learning to love hip hop. I'm having way more fun on my hip hop binge than I did on my sludge binge..
| evilford Lol alright I'll check them out thx man
| evilford Dude ****ing k-rino. Next level. Jesus
| evilford lol, that's not bad...yeah luckily I've discovered pretty ok music without the aid of weed. come to think of it my best friend smokes now and then but he moved to sacramento a while back lol...which is a ways from me, I'm in Iowa. maybe he'll get some next time he comes back
| evilford haha nah beer is about as hard as I get these days. I wish pot did more for me but I've smoked it 5-10 times and it's done next to nothing, idk. I like the smell tho. but it just never did a whole lot for me idk. might try it again sometime but I don't really have any friends who smoke and I'm broke af so who knows.
| evilford awesome dude thanks good to know I got another cool buddy to chat hip hop/metal w/, and yeah I'll be down w/ outkast forever, I only just recently heard their "classics" all the way thru but I've loved some of their stuff and their style for over 15 years. and aquemini is probably my fav hip hop album so far
| evilford also, I have an absolute s***LOAD of stuff to check to if I don't get to ur recs right away don't take it personally, I'm trying to get to everyone's recs at the same time I'm checking dozens of albums I've also wanted to hear for a while :]
| evilford haha thanks man yeah I see you 5'd mystic stylez, that album's really got me in a trance, might end up 5ing it eventually, really awesome stuff
| evilford Cool I'll check it out. You know I actually used to love hip hop like 15ish years ago but I hadn't heard the really good stuff, I only had mediocre albums so this is kind of a renaissance for me
| kascetcadettt here's a thread where you can discuss how fantastic it is to be a part of this moment: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=174557 \\\ don't be scared to share the news with other guys in case i missed someone out and keep shining in the light of this beautiful rock n roll fireplate, god bless, hasanmedia represent
| kascetcadettt sieg hi it's-a me smooth brotha from the umpteenth block taggin' em trainz comin' from your favorite station, word on the street is (artuma is gay) my new album came out recently and if that's the last thing i ever do let it be, leavin' the link in your hands my man: http://poleyounger.bandcamp.com/album/go-daylight \\\ feel FREE to 1 it if u didn't like my agressive self promotion campaign, feel FREE to thank me if this album saved your life
| evilford lol, didn't know he was conservative but now that I hear that it doesn't surprise me
| evilford huh interesting. yeah I really like Ice-T in general so I'll probably check it eventually
| evilford Sweet dude I'll have to check it out
| evilford also see you like Gang Starr, nice, I've always liked them a lot too
| evilford yeah man I've loved outkast for a long time but hadn't actually heard their first three in full and they ****ing blew me away. love them hard
| Typhoon24 please do and I think you'll like it. it's most similar to southernplayalisticcadillac more than anything since that was the style at. they're style vastly different in many ways but you get the same vibes.
| Rowan5215 I'm still pretty new so I don't call myself an expert by any means, haven't heard that alb yet but I think I remember the title track being real ****in good. outkast and goodie mob are basically my main explorations at this point but yea I really need to dig a little deeper
| Typhoon24 oh no i meant souls of mischief - 93 till infinity the album in 93. that's way better than wayne. and yeah u right. I was in a good mood with the raekwon review and think it needs a few more listens. I just felt it was better than expected and gave the chef a 4 ;)
| Rowan5215 actually didn't hate the features that much, wayne's at least flowed pretty well with the song, but it's just not the same without ghostface spitting on every song. def better than his last but he's getting less essential as time goes on
| Rowan5215 surprised at your rating for that new raekwon! I mean I quite liked it but almost nothing struck me as stuff I'd relisten to in a pinch
| Rowan5215 s'all good man, you got writing talent and it's good to see people repping the south lol
| NeroCorleone80 yeah i guess so. its all about the east and south for me.
| 50iL Yeh np man, all of that album is great if you wanna get into BM btw
| oltnabrick https://goropsy6.bandcamp.com/album/drawing-pictures-in-the-dark-because-i-miss-you-2
| 50iL Sweet! I'll get to them soon.
| 50iL I actually have heard of the genre but haven't listened to it. Any recs?
| 50iL Damn I still need to jam Athiest. I've been keening to buy UP for quite a bit. I'll wait till I buy it to jam.
| 50iL Hahah true but I prefer Symbolic by a really tiny bit
| 50iL Nice Human 5 ;)
| Sinternet on the cool thanks, like urs too :^)
| BADBOY got any albums you think i will like?
| BADBOY great taste in hip hop!
| AlexKzillion Having a little trouble adjusting to how different the beats are compared to Aquemini, but I'll probably get over that after a couple listens. The bars are still top notch though.
