| BlushfulHippocrene ...digest. It's difficult to tell whether or not you're reading too much into it, and it takes a lot of listens IMO, but once it clicks it's magical. I'd say it has that edge over Rome. It is, or at least seems, """deeper""". I'd say Rome's themes and progression are a tad more cursory, and more like a template, great as the album is - keep in mind I've listened to Known Unknowns a great deal more, so I may be wrong. I think the woods album has the better hooks, too.
| BlushfulHippocrene Oh my, here comes kylemccluskey with the tough questions again. :')) (Hope you're well, man.) Short answer: billy woods. It depends what you're looking for, though. Rome is incredible because Elucid and woods have incredible chemistry; there also are some some of the best instrumentals I've heard all year on that album, as well as easily some of the best verses, easily. HOWEVER, Known Unknowns has that insane billy woods structure and thematic progression that is just so intensely fun to...

| BlushfulHippocrene /And with all that that said/, it's important to consider that whereas STFDC had a huge sense progression from A Toothpaste Suburb, Who Told You..? isn't hugely different from STFDC. I'd call it a lot more ambitious and heady thematically, but Fantano argues that there isn't much progression - which is a point I don't agree with, but certainly understand. In short, I think Who Told You? is his most mature, and arguably his best. I like it quite a bit more than his last, though I loved that, too.
| BlushfulHippocrene Interesting. Well, Fantano's someone who'd agree with that opinion: STFDC being better than Who Told You..? It depends on what you're looking for, I suppose. STFDC was a /huge/ step up from A Toothpaste Suburb in how direct and to the point it was. Musically, using a very select handful of producers, and more importantly, lyrically. Ask Jack what he thinks about this, though - as far as I'm aware, he prefers Toothphase, perhaps because of variety, and I'd agree it has some of Milo's best lyrics.

| Conmaniac been pretty amazing man! school is starting up so I wont be able to write a lot either, and honestly I've come across a lot of stuff as of late. New Milo, Cloakroom, and Brockhampton I've been jammin a ton as of late though. btw do you have a discord??
| BlushfulHippocrene Good picks, Fleet Foxes is near the top for me, too. Billy Woods or Perfume Genius are probably my favourites right now.
| BlushfulHippocrene Thanks so much, Kyle, that means a lot coming from you, you're probably my favourite user reviewer. It's a 4-4.5, I usually lower scores over time. At its peak, I was considering 5ing it. It's very, very dense, and there's so much chew on if you're listening to the lyrics, but even regardless, all of the instrumentals are fantastic, and Woods is characteristically excellent at crafting hooks. Let me know if you jam it. Do you have a 2017 favourite? ((:
| BlushfulHippocrene Glad to hear that, mate, are you doing school right now? And wow, I'm listening to the MIKE tape right now, and it's amazing. Would be lovely to see a review from you at all, but even more so for this one.
| BlushfulHippocrene Hey man, hope you've been well. Any reviews to look forward to from you? ((:
| Conmaniac hey hey hey where ya been my dude? haven't seen ya in awhile
| BlushfulHippocrene Hi man, how's it going? I love it so much, wasn't going to check it actually till I saw you and a couple others rated it pretty highly. Leaning towards a 4.5, but haven't spent enough time with it yet. Easy top three this year.
| verdant thanks kyle! i feel like the sole purpose of ambient is to seek out emotional responses so i'm grateful for any help i can get diving into it :) take care!
| verdant hey forgot to do it before, but another comment reminded me to say thanks for the Tim Hecker recc. really loving his stuff :)))
| BlushfulHippocrene I can respect that, cheers for giving it a shot, though, and for reading the review. Someone negged all of my reviews sometime in the last month, so approval took a bit of a hit. :P I've been dragged into that angst-driven cloud rap scene over the last few months, too. Unsure how long it'll last, though, it's often, undeniably shallow, and I can't imagine the appeal of that to last too long.
| BlushfulHippocrene I understand that. Glad you managed to gain such a fulfilling perspective. I'm starting to regret not doing the same right now, but part of me thinks I would never have figured it out had I not jumped straight into things. I agree, though, about the importance of having a positive effect on people not just in their life, but yours.
| BlushfulHippocrene Was very well-conceived for such a long review, though, mate, props. Will probably check the album as a result, too. I've listened to No Flashlight and LOVED it, so I'll give Clear Moon a listen next. Actually didn't know where to go next with Elverum, so it's a more than welcome recommendation.
| BlushfulHippocrene About to check that review of yours, too. And I'm not that into dm, but I'll give it a shot. Loved that Mount Eerie, too. I put it on hold to go back and listen to some of his back catalogue. Haven't managed to connect with it emotionally like you and others have. I listened to a bit of Actress and found it a bit boring, as you said, but I'm not that familiar with the genre at all.
| BlushfulHippocrene Wow, that does sound incredible. It's good that you have practical ambitions for what you want to do with the knowledge, I've found a lot of the people I've talked to in uni aren't passionate enough about their field and its future application. Glad to hear it, though. And really it's kind of just trap music with sung vocals, but he's done stuff outside of the trap genre whilst maintaining his style in a lot of aspects, so it's kinda hard to describe it in genre tags.
| BlushfulHippocrene I know the feel, mate, I'm in the middle of school right now as well. Glad to hear you aced it, though, congratulations dude. Looking forward to whatever you write. You were doing mechanical engineering, right? I've been alright myself, thanks. To be honest, the last couple things I've written weren't too great, finding it hard to fit in time for it. What have you been listening to lately? Been meaning to check out Actress, not your kinda thing?
| Pon Thanks for your contrib application dude. I hadn't read anything from you before but suffice to say I was impressed when I did. Rootin 4 u
| BlushfulHippocrene Oh sweet. Interesting subject, I was looking into it for a while, but I've settled on Law/International Relations.
| BlushfulHippocrene Good to hear, man. What are you doing in school? Not sure if I've asked. I'm going alright thanks, just awaiting admission into school, hoping I make it into the course I want.
| BlushfulHippocrene Wow, I do NOT remember that. Just got rid of it, I don't think I'd rate it above a 4, if that, right now. It's really great, though, from what I've heard. How's it going, mate?
| Conmaniac http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/72413/Old-Gray-Slow-Burn/here's my most recent review but it's not exactly like most of my reviews. would love for you to check it tho!
| BlushfulHippocrene About to fall asleep, but gave it a quick read. Great descriptions, dude, excellent writing as usual. A bit jealous of your expression, to be honest. I feel like we have a somewhat similar ways of structuring sentences, and I find the way you do it really interesting.
| BlushfulHippocrene Cheers man, I appreciate that heaps. I might be releasing a review on Julien Baker soon, it'd be great to have some feedback when I do. Once again, though, don't mistake me for too sarcastic; I know I might appear it, though, I've had to clarify to a few people I've rubbed the wrong way. If I have criticism, I'll be direct about it. Compliments are earnest. :]
| BlushfulHippocrene Sincere, mate. I know it's not a high rating, but it's still positive and I appreciate that you listened to it. Oh, and I've gotten the feeling you might've misinterpreted a few comments: I know that sometimes I might come off as backhanded or even, as you said, contemptuously sarcastic, but I promise most of the times I'm being sincere. :] It's just the way I convey tone, which I'll work on. You really are a fantastic writer, btw.
| VheissuCrisis No problem. If you want some for a future review, feel free to ask.
