  • Sunnyvale Hi onionbubs! Any interest in writing up a short blurb for the Peter Gabriel album which won December's release of the month? If so, just shoutbox me the Google Docs link once ready. Let me know, thanks!
    January 16 05:55 PM
  • ThyCrossAwaits Sweet! Cheers mate. I also just listened to In Utero for the first time all the way through the other day, I feel like I spent so much time digging for weird metal that I missed some more obvious bands hahaha.
    January 13 02:22 PM
  • ThyCrossAwaits So I?ve never really listened to Alkaline Trio like, ever. Is the new one a good one to start with?

  • Rowan5215 try the wrens thread on chorus lol that's where i found it
    November 21 06:10 AM
  • Ryus yeah its interesting to hear, wilder was like ?we gotta make this an uptempo banger? and he was very right
    November 18 02:34 PM
  • Ryus sweeet. that demo seems like its kinda the exception actually, i think most of them were more well-developed and some of them sound pretty similar to the studio versions but still it seems like alan did contribute a lot
    November 18 02:07 PM
  • Ryus lol i figured out wtf alan wilder does in depeche mode. so basically martin would write the demos, and then alan was the arranger so in a way hes kinda the second-pass songwriter and as a result had a ton of influence on their sound. idk if uve heard this but heres a martin demo for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRyDzc4FF0E

  • twlight It's definitely my favorite IA song with their new singer. I've been quite the critic of the new vocalist but he absolutely kills the new song

    August 11 04:52 AM
  • SmashIsTheWay94 Chronological isn't a bad idea. They're the kind of band where it's really interesting to see how they evolved over time. Just be prepared for the early stuff (especially Garlands) to be pretty different from HOLV. I'd say either chronological or knock out Treasure next
    August 8 01:08 PM
  • SmashIsTheWay94 Sounds good man. Enjoy!
    August 7 03:08 AM
  • SmashIsTheWay94 Love's Easy Tears, Aikea-Guinea, Spangle Maker, and Sunburst and Snowblind are all great. Band really has one of the most consistent discogs there is. But tbh there are several EPs I still haven't checked because there are so god damn many lol. But I think on those later ones there's quite a bit of overlap with the LPs
    August 6 10:32 PM
  • SmashIsTheWay94 Well definitely nothing wrong with spending more time with that masterpiece before moving on, but you're in for a treat with the rest of their stuff too. Like I'm kinda jealous that you get to hear Lazy Calm for the first time lol. Some of their EPs are pretty essential too
    August 6 03:05 PM
  • SmashIsTheWay94 Dude sick Heaven or Las Vegas rating. Your only Cocteau Twins so far?
    August 6 02:49 AM
  • Rowan5215 get out of cities is easily the dumbest addition I made lmao but it's a bit of fun in a pretty dark album I think. reminds me of Bugman and BLUREMI a bit
    August 2 11:48 AM
  • Rowan5215 Dancehall is so good, take off the vocals and it's basically doom lmao. think it sets up Essex Dogs well, comes outta nowhere vibes wise on the album
    July 30 06:36 PM
  • Rowan5215 it's so good! they played it live recently which makes me think they eventually realised how good it is
    July 30 01:38 AM
  • Rowan5215 lol ty bubs. some great b-sides in that era, last few even presage the s-t sound a bit which is wild, it's such a jarring transition otherwise. as for s-t I played around with it a lot but finally found one I liked. will pop in the thread for ya
    July 29 05:34 AM

  • parksungjoon The car's on fire and there's no driver at the wheelAnd the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicidesAnd a dark wind blowsThe government is corruptAnd we're on so many drugsWith the radio on and the curtains drawnWe're trapped in the belly of this horrible machineAnd the machine is bleeding to deathThe sun has fallen downAnd the billboards are all leeringAnd the flags are all dead at the top of their polesIt went like this:The buildings toppled in on themselvesMothers clutching babiesPicked through the rubbleAnd pulled out their hairThe skyline was beautiful on fireAll twisted metal stretching upwardsEverything washed in a thin orange hazeI said, "Kiss me, you're beautifulThese are truly the last days"You grabbed my handAnd we fell into itLike a daydreamOr a feverWe woke up one morning and fell a little further downFor sure as the valley of deathI open up my walletAnd it's full of blood

    March 28 11:11 PM
  • Rowan5215 yeah not a huge fan of Auctioneer or Wendell Gee which does mark Fables down a tiny bit. also tend to skip Give it Away though tbf which is one of the least interesting songs on the first 4 albums for me. Green and Document both feel like EPs padded out to full album length to me lol, if you combined them into one you'd have a pretty great album probably. Green especially is just all over the place and not in a fun way
    March 3 04:03 AM
  • Rowan5215 yea Document is the easy worst lol. just outside my bottom 3 REM albums honestly, Around the Sun and Green are definitely the bottom 2. Fables might actually be my favourite album from the IRS era depending on my mood, it and Pageant are dead even
    March 3 03:04 AM
  • Rowan5215 fair. Monster is so ugly sounding I kinda struggle with it even sober lmao, but I do get that's kinda the point of it. Fables on the other hand sounds like it'd be incredible high, god I love the whole Southern Gothic dreamy blur feel of that album so much. crazy underrated
    March 2 01:56 PM
  • Rowan5215 that sounds pretty great ngl. the one time i did it was at a wild NYE party after a lotta drinking and it was less than optimal lmao. chillin to REM sounds perfect as long as it's not Monster lol
    February 28 11:45 PM
  • Rowan5215 lol nice, I hope you didn?t jam Young Fathers on acid either cos that sounds absolutely terrifying lmao. i also don't know much about film tbh i just watch what looks fun
    February 28 05:01 AM
  • Rowan5215 lol only reason i call it that is because it's the first song i and a lot of others heard from. has a pretty prominent placement on the Trainspotting 2 soundtrack which is a hella underrated movie ftr. killer song though the last 20 seconds of it always get me
    February 26 11:24 AM
  • Rowan5215 hell yeah dude I love to hear it. def the kinda discog that just sinks its claws in over time, never realised I was a fan until it was too late. gonna be basic af and say Dare Me or the whole 27 - Sirens run but it all rules. the bonus track Soon Come Soon is also lovely, worth tracking down
    February 25 04:05 PM
  • Get Low nevermind i was able to find my way to the kingdomleaks discord lol
    September 4 07:16 AM

    April 30 12:17 PM
  • Purpl3Spartan Yeah for sure, I definitely didn?t appreciate what they were doing the first time I heard them, but they?ve grown into one of my favorite bands.
    April 26 04:31 PM
  • Purpl3Spartan Oi, you ever checked paledusk? They used to be an average progcore band but since 2019 they found their own style and have been releasing slappers since.
    April 20 05:13 PM
  • Wildcardbitchesss lol I?ve watched it like 7 times man. You?ll pick up a lot more stuff on rewatch, the show is so layered.
    March 7 06:32 PM
  • Wildcardbitchesss You finish Season 3 Onion?
    March 4 06:10 PM
  • Wildcardbitchesss Man you?re in for a ride with the leftovers last two seasons.S1 is tame compared to what follows.

  • Groundking Yeh I'm probs not gonna give the og that many spins either tbh
    February 18 10:01 PM
  • Groundking Belting tyvm, giving it a spin now
    February 18 11:31 AM
  • Purpl3Spartan I totally agree! It's such a cool concept and such a bummer that it never really caught on but I guess it makes this all the more special. I catch myself hearing things in the songs and I'm like "damn that's low key proggy" lol. Sadly, we prob will never get a 3rd cd. I'd also pay big money if a live set was engineered or something.
    February 3 08:27 PM
  • Purpl3Spartan how bout you?
    February 3 08:16 PM
  • Purpl3Spartan I think harmonic voltage was my overall favorite growing up because of those silky melodies but I'm now appreciating a lot of the more complex videos like pogo sticks and resonant chamber. The pipe dreams are always a favorite too tho because they're pipe dream
    February 3 08:12 PM
  • Purpl3Spartan Heck yeah man that's the good stuff. Been on a nostlagia binge the last couple days.
    February 3 08:02 PM
  • JayEnder Saved the link and I'm loving the changes you made dude. The quality is way better than Spotify too. I gotta remove your first shout tho cause it totally wacked out my page and the link is outside of the box lmao. Just a heads up so you don't think I'm a douche hah
    December 4 05:16 AM
  • JayEnder Duuude hell yes! You're the man for putting that together. Gonna jam the makeshift album til the full length next year. Glad you bumped your score and you're getting into them.
    December 4 03:40 AM
  • Feather hmmmm... I may have actually seen them live before then. I was at a tour ~2017 with La Dispute and Thrice.
    November 2 01:38 PM
  • Feather I had never heard of gates. They really seem to be flying under the radar.

  • Storm In A Teacup all onions in the united states have been recalled, how do you respond to this controversy?
    October 22 05:53 AM
  • twlight Word, few couple songs are decent but when they get into "Daughter" off of transit blues... Woah that song is heavy!
    June 1 06:17 AM

  • ArsMoriendi Aw, only a 3?
    January 31 04:46 PM
  • ArsMoriendi Do you like Of Montreal? I adore their album Satanic Panic in the Attic. I think you'd also like it. It's neo-psych that's sort of Beatley, but also more modern and original in its own right.
    January 30 03:55 AM
  • Feather Good luck ... everything kinda fell off a cliff again after the White album.
    January 21 11:28 PM
  • Feather I was gunna rec you some more modern weezer based on your comment in the news thread but you literally have every one of their albums rated lol

  • Storm In A Teacup check out my new review i think you'll like the band! a lot of great post hardcore elemnts bubsy!
    September 28 05:00 AM
  • SmashIsTheWay94 I see you already bumped it to a 4.5 so that's cool lol. those are all real good picks, apathy has pretty much always been my fav PTW song
    September 3 08:51 PM
  • SmashIsTheWay94 their progression is pretty awesome. it's crazy how just from OOD to YCBY they almost sound like a different band, and their last two albums bring a different vibe as well. what are some of your faves from YCBY so far
    September 3 02:58 PM
  • SmashIsTheWay94 those are some pretty dope poison the well ratings. I'm guessing you haven't gotten to the tropic rot yet but that one kills too
    September 2 11:41 PM
  • DaHound Every time i die the chariot hums ulver
    July 1 01:06 AM
  • SmashIsTheWay94 cool. the heart is a monster is actually my second fav from them, which is probably a weird pick for 2nd best lol. but magnified and in the future are pretty cool too
    June 25 07:22 PM
  • SmashIsTheWay94 yeah awesome stuff. you ever check out anything else from Failure? I mean FP is easily my favorite but their other stuff is worth checking, aside from their debut I guess
    June 25 06:13 PM
  • SmashIsTheWay94 I've gotta spend more time with Downward but it's real good too, as is the new one. but Astronaut is my clear fav at least for now largely cuz of I Hate it Too. god I love that song. but yeah I wasn't far ahead of you, I hadn't heard of them until I got into Failure (specifically Fantastic Planet) a few months back
    June 25 04:32 PM
  • SmashIsTheWay94 Hey man nice Hum rating. I'm guessing the new album hype is what got you to check them out? Weirdly enough I first listened to them like a month ago and then they drop their first album in 22 years lol
    June 25 01:52 PM
  • JohnnyoftheWell oh **** sorry, forgot to clarify the timeframe - any chance you could get that blurb done in the next couple of days?

    April 21 07:04 AM
  • Lucman I totally get that. I love Elsie but it's his more uptempo stuff that I'm more drawn too (Forget Me Not, Wonderful Life, Behold the Hurricane) so this just feels a little dull to me. Def gonna give it another few spins though.
    March 27 02:06 AM
  • Lucman I wish I loved the new Brian Fallon as much as you do. Three listens in and nothing is connecting with me outside of the lead single.
    March 27 12:39 AM
  • Lucman Though Handwritten has been growing on me a lot lately too.
    December 13 06:13 AM
  • Lucman Same here actually. 59 Sound is fantastic but Elsie and his solo records are where his peak songwriting is. Has all the wistfulness and catchy melodies I love about the man's music.
    December 13 06:13 AM
  • Lucman He warms mine too, brother :)
    December 12 11:58 PM
  • AsleepInTheBack Glad to hear it. Stick with it and it'll sink it's hooks into you.
    December 3 10:59 PM
  • AsleepInTheBack Mr bubs, have you listened to the new Stuck Out Here yet? if not, get on that s***
    November 30 09:23 PM
  • SlothcoreSam Yup, the t/t is great, the way Make No Mistake starts after the opener is sweet. The album has so many styles, I've listened 3 times, and every time a different song stands out. Also check Stuck Out Here- Until We're Each Someone Else. Especially the track Saint and Sinner's Wine, probably my SOTY at the moment.
    October 20 01:43 AM
  • SlothcoreSam I stumbled across Make No Mistake on my 2019 playlist, and thought that sounded cool, so proceeded to check the rest of the album, it's pretty diverse.
    October 19 07:45 PM
  • SlothcoreSam Hey, check Devon Kay and the Solutions- Yes I Can't. It's like a cross between McCafferty and Say Anything, but with some trumpets thrown in.
    October 19 07:22 PM
  • Drifter You disappoint me more than you could possibly believe

    February 26 11:15 PM
  • SmashIsTheWay94 sweet dude I hope you do cuz they're incredible. seeing how they evolved throughout their career is really cool. let me know what you think!
    February 17 08:43 PM
  • SmashIsTheWay94 yea I just ask because I went on a big Fugazi binge recently and wanted to talk to someone about them lol. The Argument rules hard along with their entire discography. one of the most consistent bands ever, but Red Medicine is my fav
    February 17 07:59 PM
  • SmashIsTheWay94 eh life is always a bit tedious so that's ok. and not to sound like an old man, since I'm not that much older than you lol, but you're young and you've got time to figure out your future. random question: you ever jam Fugazi?
    February 17 03:20 PM
  • SmashIsTheWay94 hey dude long time no talk! how's it going?
    February 17 02:52 AM
  • Satellite i was definitely more of a brendan fan when i first got into them. pretty sure cocktails and dreams was the first album where i really appreciated what chris was bringing to the table. "four one five two" is probably my favorite tla side album, which is saying a lot.
    February 13 04:03 AM
  • Satellite definitely. probably my favorite band to catch live. when i first turned 21 i went and saw chris play his first show under the sundowner moniker. it was amazing. i got way too drunk and me and my gf played foosball with chris and neil afterwards. they destroyed us. i recorded a couple songs and put them on youtube (here's one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LX4T2XqQcY). holy s*** that was 11 yrs ago.
    February 13 03:48 AM
  • Satellite lol the ampersand cut off the rest of my comment but you got the gist of it. i'll give it a shot.
    February 13 03:40 AM

    October 18 06:22 PM
  • oisincoleman64 S/t is a close second for me, right behind Real Boy, this one might be better than In Defense imo
    October 18 03:54 PM

  • SymbolicInTime I?ll give Crimson another shot eventually. But sweet man I?ll give those other ones I spin too!
    October 1 04:20 PM
  • SymbolicInTime Okay got my opinion on the two Alkaline albums you rec?d. Good Mourning has some massive highlights like This Could Be Love, Continental, and Every Thug Needs a Lady. Overall liked it a tad less than ITTC. But I didn?t vibe with Crimson much. Really didn?t enjoy the musical direction they took. It wasn?t a bad listen by any means, it was still pleasant to listen to. Just not something I want out of Alkaline, I guess. There weren?t any highlights on there for me, other than the opener

  • ZombieToyDuck sweet dude, don't know how it hasn't gotten any attention on here yet
    September 27 02:21 PM
  • ZombieToyDuck Yeah when you asked about sound it was pretty hard to place cause there's a blend of genres with an overall classic rock vibe to it. Yeah Please, Please Me is probably my favorite on it! The horns near the end were sick too.
    September 27 02:12 PM
  • ZombieToyDuck ahh I love me some classic rock so I wasnt bothered haha but glad you're diggin it man!
    September 27 02:06 PM

    September 26 08:18 PM

    September 8 04:33 AM

    September 5 03:24 PM
  • SmashIsTheWay94 I prob can't agree with that since a couple other emo openers are among like my favorite songs ever lol, but those are both great yeah. unfinished and the closer were other standouts on my first couple spins
    September 5 12:02 PM
  • SmashIsTheWay94 Yea I wish I was a naturally gifted lyricist. Btw Endserenading is fantastic. I should have checked Mineral much sooner
    September 5 03:35 AM
  • SmashIsTheWay94 I mean I guess you're bound to hear me about the people who write their best s*** when they're depressed, but yea I'm sure there are plenty of cases where depression has the opposite effect and makes it hard to get anything done. do you write lyrics then?
    September 5 01:53 AM

    September 5 01:29 AM
  • SmashIsTheWay94 What do you play in your band?

    September 4 11:57 PM
  • SmashIsTheWay94 I hope things start looking up for you man. sometimes Idk what I'd do without music in general tbh
    September 4 11:43 PM
