    October 21 01:34 PM
  • VaxXi ah gotcha.
    October 21 12:24 AM
  • VaxXi if ya say so, i guess im just not at that point where i look at or consider how i "rate" things for "what they are" instead of my enjoyment and feelings on them.
    October 21 12:10 AM
  • VaxXi also sometimes i fear that the album wont live up to the hype and the reputation just cuz of its legacy or cuz a lot of bands and artists always expand on and reinvent the trends they created. Hated Abbey Road and couldnt get into Pet Sounds and Donuts was just alright.
    October 21 12:04 AM
  • VaxXi honestly my only "excuse" is that there was a time where I only listened to less essential records in genres cuz I thought it would make my taste look better. lol. playing major catch up while also trying to keep up with current releases AND obscurer stuff. it takes a while for me to swing around the genre staples.
    October 21 12:00 AM
  • VaxXi this is who i am.
    October 20 11:51 PM
  • VaxXi lmao chill, first time i heard them (about 2 or so years) ago I didnt really feel them but now and days its more my kinda thing. Id be hearing from them eventually, its not like they arent on my fabled "listen log" i constantly reference.
    October 20 11:49 PM
  • VaxXi yeah i was getting that disclosure/flume syndrome vibe as well, i was kinda torn between a 3 and a 3.5 while listening to it but the last third or so saved it. For me it would be Heartbreak Horizon, Mediator, or Not Above Love. The horns in Not Above Love are ~~~

  • VaxXi what was your favorite off I Remember yo?
    October 20 11:24 PM
  • Polyethylene Yeah the first half of Hannibal s3 is a little intangible, episode 7 through 13 is absolute genius though. The moment they get back to America, it is like 10/10 television again
    October 20 06:24 PM
  • Polyethylene if you're a fan of "Mads" and "trippy" I sincerely hope you've seen all of Hannibal. Pls take the four minutes to watch this vid if you haven't https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8u0IYzxJZdw

  • Frippertronics hey pots, the new ichiko aoba interest you?
    October 19 08:47 PM
  • plane That didn't really make sense. I guess I mean, Danny can walk into the booth buzzed out and shoot the s***, and in the relay possess the self awareness to understand its weight/reveal. Edits and placement accordingly. Thanks for the recs.
    October 19 12:50 PM
  • plane I think you're onto something, but must argue in Danny's favor; the "fortunate coincidence" is as much a driving force of Danny's creative drive as his actual auteurist vision. Definitely a man who understands why his bleak/beautiful id becomes the selling point, and dives further into it. But when he comes to the surface, he walks upon it with such control and precision that I have little doubt that the end product is thoroughly vetted, even if the individual details in the moment are not.
    October 19 12:44 PM
  • plane Also sup what's the word on what's good to check
    October 18 05:24 PM
  • plane "Hell For It". I mean, ****
    October 18 05:23 PM
  • plane Are you the type who can appreciate the peculiar narrative that an aesthetic can thread into a work? I ask because I too think Danny sounds "bad" on Atrocity Exhibition, but only insofar as drug fueled paranoia and desperation will (always seemingly) create a dysfunction in presentation. For me, transcends "good" or "bad" and in execution becomes Great.
    October 18 05:22 PM
  • VaxXi ill try listening to it again later, im busy writing up a script so im only paying half attention.

    October 16 12:58 AM
  • wtferrothorn You should check the new Solagne record, sounds like the kind of thing you'd like. You'd definitely like it much more than that new Beyonce record, that's for sure.
    October 15 09:39 PM
  • BlackMalachite I am nervous though, chapter 2 in my EP series is my first time using vocals on a non demo work
    October 15 09:35 PM
  • BlackMalachite Thanks man! My goal is to keep improving. I have so much fun making music.
    October 15 09:28 PM
  • BlackMalachite Thanks fam for the recs, ima check that out too. So what do you think you're gonna rate void?
    October 15 09:18 PM
  • BlackMalachite Yeah I've seriously been meaning to get into IDM but haven't had much of a chance as of late. Ametsub is first on my list, gonna jam it tonight after I pick up my roommate from work.
    October 15 09:12 PM
  • BlackMalachite As much as I love BVB, and stuff like that, that's not the music I want to create. I was a harsh vocalist for a metalcore band but we never got anything done bar a few demos. The only thing that I'd want to make musically that's close to what I jam often is a Mayday Parade type band similar to their self titled album.
    October 15 09:06 PM
  • Ryus yeah makes sense. nostalgia is a definitely powerful factor when enjoying music
    October 15 09:03 PM
  • BlackMalachite Most of my songs derive their appeal from the percussion bar some of my more outlandish dub / trap songs from Distortion World / Chapter 1 of the EP series and stuff. It's honestly my favorite thing to work on as a musician, that and bass.
    October 15 09:01 PM
  • BlackMalachite If you loved Craving Sentiment, you're gonna love Chapter 4 of my EP series that I'm releasing late this year / early next year. Chapter 4 is basically exactly the same style as Craving Sentiment, super ambient, fleshed out, and nature-based
    October 15 08:58 PM
  • Ryus i think it's his best so far, there are a lot of really interesting production choices. and yeah lol that album bored me to tears
    October 15 08:56 PM
  • BlackMalachite Ametsub sounds cool if that's the case, I'll give that album a whirl
    October 15 08:54 PM
  • BlackMalachite Thank you man! Yeah, that seems to be a problem with my songwriting is it'll flow naturally to me at the time, but then too late after I've released it I'll notice that I could have made it flow a lot better instead of being so abrupt with the tone shifts and song segment changes.
    October 15 08:53 PM
  • Ryus ahh okay. i thought it was pretty great for the most part
    October 15 08:45 PM

    October 14 04:31 PM
  • Ryus what do u think of the new danny brown?
    October 8 09:58 PM
  • BlushfulHippocrene Fair enough, man. To be quite honest, for me it's the aesthetic more than anything else. I had a bit of trouble discerning what I loved so much about it, because a lot of it feels like a bunch of different ideas just thrown together in semi-discernable structures, some of which are admittedly questionable, like the pitched vocals on Nikes. Or Nikes at all. But I think it has it's moments, particularly the last few tracks. Hype calmed down quick, so you might be right about its audience, though.

    October 5 11:09 PM
  • BlackMalachite Sweeeeeet, I think one of the contribs is gonna review it too.
    October 5 08:08 PM
  • BlackMalachite Beast Chimera was an interesting track so I'm jamming the rest. I can't wait to hear what you think of my Void album tbh.
    October 5 08:05 PM
  • BlackMalachite Gonna check the debut on that Sudatsuga project, it sounds really interesting and something I'd definitely be down to jam. Metal and folk go together like butter and jam and I love it.
    October 5 07:58 PM
  • BlackMalachite You have anything in the following genres: Ambient, Classical, Shoegaze, Techno, Metalcore, Death Metal, Acoustic, Folk?
    October 5 07:52 PM

    October 5 07:40 PM
  • BlackMalachite Well s***, that's great then. But seriously though, really dug the album.
    October 5 07:37 PM
  • BlackMalachite What'd you sample for Beacon Hill then? It's got a tropical vibe to it that feels like it shouldn't be there but it really, really works.
    October 5 07:29 PM
  • BlackMalachite No seriously Beacon Hill for some reason really makes me want to go play Donkey Kong and I'm not sure why, it's been stuck in my head.

  • DoofusWainwright I'll definitely read up more on his life and dip into his discog some more at some point. Has anyone ever tried to film a story of his life out of interest?
    October 4 12:09 PM
  • DoofusWainwright I've only read the review here but some deep s***, I don't understand how someone can continue living under that duress, what they did to his mother is horrific. He had over 20 wives too, sounds like one of those people who squeezed the equivalent of three lifetimes into less than 60 years
    October 4 12:02 PM
  • BlushfulHippocrene Interesting. You have quite a few different monikers for the various projects. Might sound dumb, but do you sort of build a character around each, or does each just sort of represent their respective sound? Also, if you don't mind me asking, is there anything specific you hated so much about the new Frank Ocean? Or was it just a terrible experience? Still need to get onto Churnmilk, I sampled a bit and it was nice.
    October 4 08:06 AM
  • LotusFlower https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdVLd521mDk - pots listen to this when you can. i think this album has potential to be one of the best this year.

    October 3 02:34 PM
  • Sinternet damn listening now and i can see why, like this is exactly my kind of s***. Been on a big deep house/tech house kick recently anyway. Def check his s/t btw if you haven't heard, it's real good but not close to this. Oh and check new Regina it's GOAT
    October 3 06:27 AM
  • BlushfulHippocrene ...of mid-November, I think I might give it a shot. Been listening to this a lot while studying, so thanks a lot for that. Was just about to ask how to find it on the database, but saw the list. Oh, and also love the flower theme, and the artwork's amazing, and do you try to represent the Chinese symbol in the project's name within the sound? It means fire, right? Sorry for being rambly. In short, though: great, great stuff. It sits around a 3.8 right now for me, might hold up. Cheers.
    October 3 06:16 AM
  • BlushfulHippocrene ...or whatever happens to be sampled(?) are incredibly charming on the first track. Atmosphere is lovely. Wasn't a huge fan of the vocal sampling on Juniper, but I love the vocals on Salmon Arm. Some of the shifts in parts of songs are done a lot better on some (Forest Bathing) than others (midsection of Beacon Hill, least favourite track). Overall, I love this though, dude. I sort of want to review it just so I can challenge myself in describing the sound, so if no one has before the end...
    October 3 06:12 AM
  • BlushfulHippocrene I was planning on writing some better feedback, but I'm running a bit short on time right now, exams around the corner, so just wanted to tell you I'm adoring the album so far, man. Love this quite a bit more than Elemental Raga which has worn off me a little. Forest Bathing is phenomenal, I love the piano phrase that repeats throughout, and the production quirks, particularly with the percussion, which is something I also find immensely interesting throughout the project - the shakers...

    October 3 02:01 AM
  • LotusFlower havent heard them myself but people seem to love them so ive had them queued up for a listen. i kinda feel like the metalcore genre gets a bad rep from all the scene bands who occupy it. theres some nice stuff hidden around here.
    October 3 01:56 AM
  • LotusFlower someone doesnt like misery signals

    October 2 08:52 AM
  • Arcade idk probably
    October 2 02:40 AM
  • LotusFlower no problemo m8. just got home from work the hour before and didnt have anything else i needed to do or anything to listen so I decided to roll through it. i liked the piano running through forest bating and the build up with how suffocating it gets around the 4-5 minute mark was great.
    October 2 01:41 AM
  • LotusFlower Finished the album. Overall id say that Manilla, Beacon Hill, Mango, and Forest Bathing were my favorites. Kinda wished I had something more constructive to say right now outside of "its great" but it was a nice listen for sure.
    October 2 01:35 AM
  • LotusFlower oh alright, so most of it is just original composition then? thats pretty nice.
    October 2 01:24 AM
  • LotusFlower yeah, i can see that. Thieves Oil is super nice tho. Is this entire album built off samples, or are a lot of them just intertwined with your own composition?
    October 2 01:19 AM
  • LotusFlower currently at juniper and not too big on the vocal sample that repeats through the whole track.
    October 2 01:16 AM
  • LotusFlower hearing the track again, in line with the album, it does sound a lot better. though I think i like Mango and Beacon Hill the most so far.
    October 2 01:12 AM
  • LotusFlower our tastes align quite a bit yeah, maybe cuz for the longest time I used to lurk your ratings and pull albums off it for recs til i started looking for stuff on my own. This has been a pretty relaxing listen all together, liking most of this a lot more than that single with lambs you linked a few weeks ago. Also thanks for the heads up on where to rate this, was about to ask you that myself.
    October 2 12:59 AM
  • LotusFlower 3 tracks in and im quite enjoying it not gonna lie.
    October 2 12:54 AM
  • LotusFlower sweet, listening now.
    October 2 12:40 AM
  • BlushfulHippocrene Just listened to Salmon Arm, and loved it, it sort of reminds me of Archy Marshall, but it might just be the vocals or something. Either way, I'm looking forward to this. Thanks for the heads up! Chose the right time to get into your music.
    October 2 12:04 AM
  • hal1ax Hell ya. Will listen tmrw and report back.

    October 1 06:45 PM
  • BlushfulHippocrene No problem at all, and I'll probably check those three out now then, thanks a bunch, much appreciated. Love the artwork for a lot of them, especially Churnmilk Peg!!
    October 1 12:54 AM
  • BlushfulHippocrene Excuse me, man, I just listened to Elemental Raga III and I like it quite a lot. If I plan to listen to the rest of your music, would you recommend I just go chronologically with the Black Alice discog, or is there any project you're particularly proud of you think I should check? You seem fairly prolific, so a bit unsure. Hope that makes sense, cheers!

  • DoofusWainwright People tore apart the Kid Cudi last year and rightly so but everyone is lapping up Blonde and I'm thinking it's nearly as misguided a style/genre/song writing shift
    September 27 04:38 PM
  • DoofusWainwright I prefer it to the Kanye too but I had slightly higher hopes as Channel Orange was ok. Total head scratcher I honestly don't know what he's trying to do on the new album

  • FullOfSounds **** yeah!
    September 24 09:46 PM
  • ZippaThaRippa It's not but I wanted to see what you were capable of. Clearly you've got some talent there. The beat was intricate and the vocals were wild.
    September 24 09:46 PM
  • FullOfSounds Are you planning an album or something? Compilation?
    September 24 08:35 AM
  • ZippaThaRippa You're obviously not one of the regular talentless hacks on sput. I'm impressed.

    September 23 06:25 AM
  • hal1ax that's rad. for sure hmu with new songs and such.
    September 23 02:48 AM
  • wtferrothorn Checked the song and I dug it quite a lot. The beat had a nice bounce in it's step, but it's still got some real nice textures. I really liked the guest vocals as well, especially the guy on the first verse (that's the same guy that was on that Laughing Mirror track, right?). Can't wait to hear more stuff from you.
    September 23 12:10 AM
  • ZippaThaRippa That's not a bad song at all
    September 22 10:09 PM

    September 22 09:05 AM
  • StrikeOfTheBeast Apologizing about a mistake I made but scolding you and those who think that s*** is cool. Yes, I do take stuff too seriously at times, but it's hard not at times when stupid s*** like that happens.
    September 22 06:21 AM
  • StrikeOfTheBeast But seriously, that s*** you said was really insulting too. Like seriously: I make a mistake in my wording, and you jerks have the nerve to kick a dog while he's down? Pathetic. But whatever I guess.
    September 21 11:48 PM
  • StrikeOfTheBeast I misphrased what I said before. I seriously didn't mean for a s***storm to happen. Sorry dude
    September 21 11:31 PM
  • LotusFlower youre spoiling me pots, love me some pop music.
    September 21 08:01 PM
  • LotusFlower Apparently the chick from Emmon is also the vocalist of a pop rock band called Paris. They sound pretty tight from the handful of songs I heard.
    September 21 04:44 PM
  • LotusFlower I'm honestly not sure who they're trying to fool. The songs called Ghost Dance but they're all clearly skeletons. Also songs sick, that pay off for all the build up was worth.
    September 21 09:58 AM

  • LotusFlower catch up game eh? ive kinda distanced myself from 2016 and been looking at stuff from all over the place now, unless something really interesting pops up. ill check out that one when i can.
    September 16 09:02 PM
  • LotusFlower it was immediate for me too, I just dont have a 'top 5' figured out yet. any other synth pop bs i need to be getting on?
    September 16 08:53 PM
  • LotusFlower im not sure if i have a top 5 since this is first listen, but this album is gonna be getting a lot of rotations on my phone in the future so we will see.
    September 16 08:49 PM
  • LotusFlower I think my biggest problem with the record was a small handful of tracks that sounded like they wanted to sell me coffee. the tracks that delve more into the synthwave side of things are the definite stand outs and the last half is amazing. Great spot.
    September 16 08:45 PM
  • LotusFlower damn neon love and pioneers slays
    September 16 05:04 PM
  • LotusFlower ill check it today dont worry
    September 16 03:58 PM

  • danielcardoso thoughts on the new wilco album? if you heard it, that is. i remember you hated their last one so i'm a bit curious to hear your thoughts on this one ahah.
    September 16 12:27 PM
  • BlackMalachite That's horrifying. Is there no regulation at all in these systems, do they really shove that s*** down your throat that much?
    September 14 12:00 AM
  • BlackMalachite It sounds like you and your friends went through a s***load of trouble involving those systems back then, damn dude. I'm seriously sorry to have read some of the things I saw in that kratom thread, I wish you the best man. I never went to AA myself, only my ex did, so idk how it is.
    September 13 11:53 PM
  • magicuba I was checking your top albums and you don't have a single artist present 2 times in your 5s, is it a coincidence or how's that? Just a curiosity
    September 12 09:17 PM
  • ZippaThaRippa You should come around Dubtrack some time and throw down
    September 12 09:16 PM
  • FullOfSounds Check the new Nick Cave dude
    September 11 10:08 PM
  • Tyler. wasnt sure who else to ask. i was looking for turkish/arabian/indian classical type stuff. generally stuff that makes use of microtones and all for. not quite sure how to describe it but i figured youd have something in mind. thanks dude
    September 11 02:01 AM
  • FullOfSounds Check the new Nick Cave
    September 10 09:43 AM
  • wtferrothorn Hey, what's some good 2016 downtempo that I should check? I've already got Gold Panda down obvs, but anything else?
    September 7 06:04 PM
  • Hurricanslash ...and I may have come up with a rather good concept imho. I wanted to ask you because I thought this was a rather odd request, and I wanted to be better safe than sorry. :D
    September 7 04:18 AM
  • Hurricanslash Hey man, I thought I responded to your last message, but apparently I didn't. Thank you so much, especially coming from you that means a lot to me. I will keep working on myself even more, and I hope someday I will reach a point where people have no criticisms anymore. :D I wanted to ask you something as well. I know you said your beats are free to use, but would you mind if I did a whole project on Apokalyptix 5? Because I was listening to that tap extensively recently...
    September 7 04:17 AM
  • ShinjiIkari Do you know any albums/artists in that style or not really?
    September 6 01:09 AM
  • ShinjiIkari Nice Tim Buckley rating dude!
    September 6 12:29 AM
  • MotokoKusanagi good looks, thanks for remembering
    September 5 07:33 PM
  • DoofusWainwright Yeah I thought there was a bit of overlap, some growing overlap maybe - my ratings are only so serious (especially the very lowest ones), and some I haven't revisited since joining, and like yourself I'm not afraid of using the lower ratings which opens you up to a lot of ridicule. If I see you've rated something highly I tend to think there'll at least be something interesting about it at the very least.
