  • AmericanFlagAsh Rec me a 2016 album you think I'd like
    September 30 04:01 PM
  • LotusFlower oh wait, ive heard Infinite Summer before. Had it on a list of "only 2016 albums" thing I was trying to do and forgot the name of it.
    September 29 10:29 PM
  • FullOfSounds got a tight grip
    September 29 09:07 PM
  • FullOfSounds where are those recs boi
    September 29 09:04 PM
  • FullOfSounds Nah. Hit me up with anything

  • Polyethylene The new Nicolas Jaar album is pretty wag
    September 28 03:06 PM
  • RoundOnEndHiInMiddle what's up bud? been a damn minute. how's life been treating you?
    September 28 02:46 PM
  • DoofusWainwright People tore apart the Kid Cudi last year and rightly so but everyone is lapping up Blonde and I'm thinking it's nearly as misguided a style/genre/song writing shift
    September 27 04:38 PM
  • DoofusWainwright I prefer it to the Kanye too but I had slightly higher hopes as Channel Orange was ok. Total head scratcher I honestly don't know what he's trying to do on the new album
    September 27 04:35 PM
  • DoofusWainwright That Blonde rating warms me inside
    September 27 01:38 PM
  • FullOfSounds *********really hyped
    September 26 06:12 PM
  • FullOfSounds dude i'm actually really hard to hear a full LP by you, that would be sick
    September 26 06:11 PM
  • EmailAccounts Are you the chosen one
    September 26 01:50 PM
  • macman76 i looked up BOH albums on their archive.org page, and thanks to some chrome extensions, uploading all the album info should be relatively easy (though, possibly a moderator nightmare). I think the user-assigned idea might be cool.
    September 26 03:04 AM
  • FullOfSounds **** yeah!
    September 24 09:46 PM
  • ZippaThaRippa It's not but I wanted to see what you were capable of. Clearly you've got some talent there. The beat was intricate and the vocals were wild.
    September 24 09:46 PM
  • FullOfSounds Are you planning an album or something? Compilation?
    September 24 08:35 AM
  • ZippaThaRippa You're obviously not one of the regular talentless hacks on sput. I'm impressed.
    September 24 12:01 AM
  • ZippaThaRippa yeah
    September 23 08:31 AM
  • FullOfSounds That was great dude, the beats were nice.
    September 23 06:25 AM
  • hal1ax that's rad. for sure hmu with new songs and such.
    September 23 02:48 AM
  • wtferrothorn Checked the song and I dug it quite a lot. The beat had a nice bounce in it's step, but it's still got some real nice textures. I really liked the guest vocals as well, especially the guy on the first verse (that's the same guy that was on that Laughing Mirror track, right?). Can't wait to hear more stuff from you.
    September 23 12:10 AM
  • ZippaThaRippa That's not a bad song at all
    September 22 10:09 PM
  • hal1ax woah dude u made that? that song is awesome. i rlyrly like the vocalist on the second verse too. what do u sequence in? logic?ableton?cubase?
    September 22 09:48 PM
  • FullOfSounds Yo dude, Rx Bandits - ...And the Battle Begun
    September 22 07:43 PM
  • hal1ax right on man. will check after work today and get back to u
    September 22 10:29 AM
  • Kris. nm dude just working n taking classes online. what about u
    September 22 09:05 AM
  • StrikeOfTheBeast Apologizing about a mistake I made but scolding you and those who think that s*** is cool. Yes, I do take stuff too seriously at times, but it's hard not at times when stupid s*** like that happens.
    September 22 06:21 AM
  • StrikeOfTheBeast But seriously, that s*** you said was really insulting too. Like seriously: I make a mistake in my wording, and you jerks have the nerve to kick a dog while he's down? Pathetic. But whatever I guess.
    September 21 11:48 PM
  • StrikeOfTheBeast I misphrased what I said before. I seriously didn't mean for a s***storm to happen. Sorry dude
    September 21 11:31 PM
  • LotusFlower youre spoiling me pots, love me some pop music.
    September 21 08:01 PM
  • LotusFlower Apparently the chick from Emmon is also the vocalist of a pop rock band called Paris. They sound pretty tight from the handful of songs I heard.
    September 21 04:44 PM
  • LotusFlower I'm honestly not sure who they're trying to fool. The songs called Ghost Dance but they're all clearly skeletons. Also songs sick, that pay off for all the build up was worth.
    September 21 09:58 AM
  • BlackMalachite Hey pots, would you mind giving my new album a spin man? - http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=169520
    September 20 01:48 PM
  • ShadowRemains the main thriving underground metal scene in the pacific nw is portland btw
    September 19 07:10 PM

    September 19 03:59 PM

    September 18 06:10 PM
  • Kris. hey potsy how are you
    September 18 02:46 AM
  • Sinternet nice underworld rating
    September 17 03:04 PM
  • LotusFlower catch up game eh? ive kinda distanced myself from 2016 and been looking at stuff from all over the place now, unless something really interesting pops up. ill check out that one when i can.
    September 16 09:02 PM
  • LotusFlower it was immediate for me too, I just dont have a 'top 5' figured out yet. any other synth pop bs i need to be getting on?
    September 16 08:53 PM
  • LotusFlower im not sure if i have a top 5 since this is first listen, but this album is gonna be getting a lot of rotations on my phone in the future so we will see.
    September 16 08:49 PM
  • LotusFlower I think my biggest problem with the record was a small handful of tracks that sounded like they wanted to sell me coffee. the tracks that delve more into the synthwave side of things are the definite stand outs and the last half is amazing. Great spot.
    September 16 08:45 PM
  • LotusFlower damn neon love and pioneers slays
    September 16 05:04 PM
  • LotusFlower ill check it today dont worry
    September 16 03:58 PM
  • LotusFlower does it look like ive listened and rated claire yet?
    September 16 03:50 PM
  • danielcardoso thoughts on the new wilco album? if you heard it, that is. i remember you hated their last one so i'm a bit curious to hear your thoughts on this one ahah.
    September 16 12:27 PM
  • BlackMalachite That's horrifying. Is there no regulation at all in these systems, do they really shove that s*** down your throat that much?
    September 14 12:00 AM
  • BlackMalachite It sounds like you and your friends went through a s***load of trouble involving those systems back then, damn dude. I'm seriously sorry to have read some of the things I saw in that kratom thread, I wish you the best man. I never went to AA myself, only my ex did, so idk how it is.
    September 13 11:53 PM
  • magicuba I was checking your top albums and you don't have a single artist present 2 times in your 5s, is it a coincidence or how's that? Just a curiosity
    September 12 09:17 PM
  • ZippaThaRippa You should come around Dubtrack some time and throw down
    September 12 09:16 PM
  • FullOfSounds Check the new Nick Cave dude
    September 11 10:08 PM
  • Tyler. wasnt sure who else to ask. i was looking for turkish/arabian/indian classical type stuff. generally stuff that makes use of microtones and all for. not quite sure how to describe it but i figured youd have something in mind. thanks dude
    September 11 02:01 AM
  • FullOfSounds Check the new Nick Cave
    September 10 09:43 AM
  • wtferrothorn Hey, what's some good 2016 downtempo that I should check? I've already got Gold Panda down obvs, but anything else?
    September 7 06:04 PM
  • Hurricanslash ...and I may have come up with a rather good concept imho. I wanted to ask you because I thought this was a rather odd request, and I wanted to be better safe than sorry. :D
    September 7 04:18 AM
  • Hurricanslash Hey man, I thought I responded to your last message, but apparently I didn't. Thank you so much, especially coming from you that means a lot to me. I will keep working on myself even more, and I hope someday I will reach a point where people have no criticisms anymore. :D I wanted to ask you something as well. I know you said your beats are free to use, but would you mind if I did a whole project on Apokalyptix 5? Because I was listening to that tap extensively recently...
    September 7 04:17 AM
  • ShinjiIkari Do you know any albums/artists in that style or not really?
    September 6 01:09 AM
  • ShinjiIkari Nice Tim Buckley rating dude!
    September 6 12:29 AM
  • MotokoKusanagi good looks, thanks for remembering
    September 5 07:33 PM
  • DoofusWainwright Yeah I thought there was a bit of overlap, some growing overlap maybe - my ratings are only so serious (especially the very lowest ones), and some I haven't revisited since joining, and like yourself I'm not afraid of using the lower ratings which opens you up to a lot of ridicule. If I see you've rated something highly I tend to think there'll at least be something interesting about it at the very least.
    September 4 04:39 PM
  • DoofusWainwright obviously yeah, I meant those comments to read humorous not heart broken although there's a little truth there too - I guess I was imagining there's be a point where you'd admit 'he's surprised mea bit, I can't totally predict his taste and I can't totally dismiss him in the same sentence as the week he joined sput' lol
    September 4 04:25 PM
  • DoofusWainwright I'm listening to a lot more music now since signing up here, I thought I'd maybe broadened my musical appreciation, dispiriting you still find my taste terrible and utterly predictable. I guess there's something reassuring about that too
    September 4 04:12 PM
  • DoofusWainwright I'll give the new Jenny a go
    September 4 03:37 PM
  • DoofusWainwright why are you always right? I hate disappointing you
    September 4 03:32 PM
  • Toad have you read this? made me think about the way language is used on sputnik between users who use language to establish personality vs. convey info etc., as well as how we define genres http://harpers.org/wp-content/uploads/HarpersMagazine-2001-04-0070913.pdf

  • FullOfSounds sounds like a plan
    September 2 08:58 PM
  • FullOfSounds When are you planning on checking Total Depravity?
    September 2 08:51 PM
  • Toad awesome, i'm pretty sure you'll dig it.
    August 29 01:32 AM
  • Toad excellent, pretty short collection of prose poetry by a female black american poet. no bulls***, posturing or masturbation to be found, just great work.
    August 29 01:28 AM
  • Nocturnalize what sounds made up?
    August 29 01:23 AM
  • Nocturnalize bud you do the same s*** I'm trolling just as ahrd as you but you just don't stop, you act like if yell louder your accomplishing something when your just running your mouth for next to no reason
    August 29 01:16 AM
  • Toad i've seen these vids, you're right, it's as if they pick up the dumbest far-left kids they can find on the street and put them in a room with the most eloquent extreme-right conservatives. it's sad to watch. on the other hand have you read claudia rankine's citizen? i thought that was a pretty excellent presentation of a chunk of the social justice argument.
    August 29 01:16 AM
  • Nocturnalize **** eh thats a my bad lol but srsly y r u being such a bitch like I'm actually kinda pissed and wanna knock u the **** out
    August 29 01:12 AM
  • Nocturnalize ****ing pussy why'd you my shout bitch
    August 29 01:08 AM
  • Toad yeah i feel that. what frustrates me most is that there are people on both sides who believe so strongly in their viewpoint that their go-to approach is to shutdown the conversation entirely, usually with one of the phrases you just mentioned. it's gotten to the point where if it comes up in irl i just don't talk
    August 29 01:04 AM
  • Toad that's fair. funnily enough most people i've seen who go for the raceblind approach are conservative white people; the SJW types are all about acknowledging racial differences to the point of redefining the word 'racism' and labeling any negative statement towards a non-whitemale person as a microagression
    August 29 12:53 AM
  • Spec all i can get from sput are deathcore recs
    August 29 12:49 AM
  • Toad yeah i agree completely. it does seem like Buckshot's in the color blind camp though; after all he only referenced one instance of a rapper taking a fundamental role in the birth of hip-hop. i mean there are clearly several new white figures who have also had an impact (i don't know much but El-P and Eminem come to mind) but I haven't made up my mind on the whole cultural-appropriation-in-rap thing
    August 29 12:44 AM
  • Toad interesting vid, i've always found it really difficult to analyze the value of confronting racial differences in relation to the value of trying to move forward as truly colorblind human beings (i know this vid is as much about the specific racial origin of hip-hop as much as it is about that concept)
    August 29 12:29 AM
  • Toad there's a hennessy commercial playing before this video, that's too much
    August 29 12:13 AM
  • Toad well i do appreciate it. i know it's pretty sparkly owl city bulls*** at this point but once i learn how to write lyrics and play guitar well i think i'll be able to write the sort of music i really want to, so i'm excited about that. definitely want to go in a red house painters direction soundwise when i can
    August 29 12:08 AM
  • Toad i owe you for the mixing advice so i think we're even
    August 28 11:59 PM

    August 27 05:22 AM
  • FullOfSounds Thanks.
    August 26 02:15 PM
  • BallsDeep Potsy this might sound a bit silly because it is but do you know anything similar to Linkin Park's Cure for the Itch, that sort of glitch/trip hop with synth? I heard DJ shadow and X-ecutrioners and they're somewhat similar but not quite what Im after. Pce
    August 26 01:49 PM
  • FullOfSounds I desperately need trip hop
    August 24 07:29 PM

  • Hurricanslash So, dude, how'd you like the 2 songs?^^
    August 16 03:42 AM
  • FullOfSounds Agreed, my mom is into bluegrass so I hear it a lot, pretty jammin stuff.

    August 14 09:34 PM
  • Hurricanslash http://www.audiomack.com/album/ccmunster/the-freetrack-collection-vol-2-1 Here it is, man! You are the very first person to recieve the link. :D Your two songs are smack dab in the middle of the project, but you will definitely find them easily.^^ Hope you enjoy!
    August 14 07:23 PM
  • FullOfSounds I glanced at it, but I can't join in or read everything atm, someone is over right now.
    August 14 07:18 PM
  • FullOfSounds Yeah, I'm definitely not as big on instrumental trip hop, but it'd probably grow on me.
    August 14 07:10 PM
  • Hurricanslash Oh, and I totally forgot, I also did a song GO! Plaastic that comes out together with the song with Panzerchrist! I realy hope you're gonna dig that as well!
    August 14 06:56 PM
  • Hurricanslash Hey man, I just wanted to tell you, Panzerchrist and me just did a song on your CitizenSpark.ForgetMyDarling beat, and I really can't wait to show it to you. It's one of my favourite songs I ever worked on until now, and I think you're gonna really dig what we did with it! Just putting that out there.^^
    August 14 06:53 PM
  • FullOfSounds Hey, you have any more trip hop recs for me?
    August 14 06:26 PM
  • Crymsonblaze u ok dumy?

    August 14 01:59 AM
  • FearThyEvil You got any good trip hop albums or just albums you could see me enjoying from this year? Real far behind this year
    August 14 01:58 AM
  • Toad thanks man, excited to check those
    August 13 03:34 AM
  • Toad what would you rec as far as a hip hop record off the top of your head
    August 13 03:29 AM
  • Toad also you should check ichiko's debut, her best studio record by far i think and i see you liked 0%
    August 13 03:27 AM
  • Toad what would you say is a gold standard for hip-hop
    August 13 02:26 AM
  • iloveyouall you might like this... it's like weird folk by way of henry flynt-esque deconstructionism and sloppy improv. quickly becoming a favourite of mine. anyways, if you do try it, tell me what you'd think. I'd be interested in your point of view tbh... https://magnesianova.bandcamp.com/album/ultra-s***-folk (the link gets censored lol, so just throw the hit in where the asterisks are). :)

    August 8 12:51 AM
  • FullOfSounds The vocals are very powerful on Dose and I love it
    August 7 10:01 PM
  • FullOfSounds I don't think I could enjoy an instrumental trip hop album, it seems like it'd be boring.
    August 7 09:55 PM
  • FullOfSounds Sweet, excited to hear it. Trip hop always needs beautiful female vocals tbh.
    August 7 09:49 PM
  • FullOfSounds The a/t/o/s album rules.

    August 7 08:11 PM
  • FullOfSounds Liking your love for Red Giant.
    August 7 08:06 PM
  • AngryLittleAlchemist It took forever for me to like it. Honestly i'd say it's their best even if it doesn't supply the awesome riffage of Songs for the Deaf. But I can understand your reasoning.
    August 4 07:28 PM
  • AngryLittleAlchemist Pots do you have an opinion on ...Like Clockwork by Queens of the Stone Age?
    August 3 04:12 AM
  • LotusFlower Ill check the new DM smith, thanks. Also Infinity was pretty cool but I liked the first a tad more
    August 1 10:12 PM
  • wwf it's not long, it just feels long bb ;)
    August 1 08:24 PM
  • iloveyouall that's okay, I am deserving
    July 31 10:13 PM
  • iloveyouall bruh, once I get my s*** together, I promise I'll be real again
    July 31 09:48 PM
  • iloveyouall I know, I know. just don't want that negativity to affect my 'real life' relationships. here, even if I am massively hated, I know that my reviews will (for the most part) judged for what they are (perhaps even better critiqued because people will LOOK for flaws). I don't know, maybe I've just lost touch with what all this life business is about.
    July 31 09:23 PM
  • iloveyouall a lot of my current condition on here is also a result of how much I try not to be a **** up outside of the internet. admittedly it's no excuse, but this place has become a bit of a venting outlet for me. my anger, frustration, self-loathing, all that bulls*** I keep hidden from people I day to day life become who I 'am' on here.
    July 31 09:13 PM
  • iloveyouall fair point tbh. I will admit that i do exaggerate my dislike of a lot of things just so that I maintain my schtick, but I do wholeheartedly enjoy noise, trap and all the s*** I rep. I don't really know why, might just be some miswiring or something. I've just run out of ways to actually get the voice heard aside from antagonising others to the point that they will listen to things outside of their comfort zone to "prove me wrong".
    July 31 09:08 PM
  • iloveyouall ok, strangely enough (character slip idk), i'm going to do the noble thing and admit that i'm wrong about a lot of s***. just want to know, what should i do to be a better user (pls no kill urself, log off forever bs, i still want to post reviews and s*** every now and then)?
    July 30 10:50 PM
  • LotusFlower i dunno if ferro bothered u about this or not, but you gotta check this out: https://flanch.bandcamp.com/album/flanch
    July 30 10:25 PM
  • Hellscythe for real? that's unfortunate. from their facebook it seemed like they were still working on a new album earlier this year, was looking forward to that
    July 24 05:46 PM
  • Toad yeah i do; the newest of it is three years old and what isn't instrumental has extremely spotty mixing/singing. this is the bandcamp page for my old stuff: https://johndarr.bandcamp.com/ Alight was my full length I made my last year of high school, so the new record is the follow-up to that - there are glimpses of what I wanted to do throughout the record, but I didn't clean up the songs well enough for them to reach their potential (Tagalong was probably the closest I got)
    July 12 01:45 PM

  • Flugmorph 10k comments biiiiiiiiiiitch. gimme dem internet points GIMME GIMME GIMME
    July 12 05:19 AM
  • Toad It's all good, I'm going through the extremely tedious process of producing/mixing my LP right now actually, I'll be interested to hear what you think even though I don't think you're into the whole bedroom-indie pop thing
    July 12 12:21 AM
  • Toad sounds great, i'm glad the response has been fantastic - obv i have far less exposure to the genre as a whole and sticking with your vision is #1. i can't wait to hear the body of work as a whole and best of luck finishing it!
    July 11 09:22 AM
  • Toad right now the drums kind of seem phoned in for that reason when they have a potential to really add to the track. i would also consider generating more atmosphere in the track via a quiet pad with heavy reverb (still overall quiet tho) and a high stereo separation, that or some ambience generated in another fashion. all this could be completely against what you're going for, and in that case i totally understand and look forward to the vox-featuring version of the track down the road!
    July 10 09:25 PM
  • Toad Semi-Unsolicited advice on the track I heard: I really liked most of the synthesizer lines I heard as well the general arrangement of the track. However, I think your drums come off as a bit stale as they're really clean but repetitive - I have no problem with drum loops, but all of the individual hits sound like they're being played at the same velocity. that really only works for me when the hits are either textured with some sort of reverb or overdrive (atmospheric or cutting, basically)

  • Toad also why it so good yet so obscure? i don't mean this as flattery but rather i'm confused as to why you haven't pushed this to the level it could obviously get to - i'm sure there are a great many artists/labels whatever who would love to get their hands on this and yet it's nearly impossible to find and hasn't really reached an audience.
