Summary: The Debut of the best band ever!

1 of 1 thought this review was well written

Oh my what have I gotten myself into? I am reviewing a band that actually has a rabid fanbase. But of course I am in that fanbase so I don't know why I'm complaining. Oh the Ramones, they are, the greatest band ever to grace vinyl, gigs, hell they're just the best band ever. Sure it might sound like I'm just going extreme fanboy on you people, but I believe it with all of my heart. The Ramones never took themselves too seriously, never made boring 100 minute songs, and wrote some of the most charming melodies on the planet. Were they complicated? Hell no, were they full of the enjoyment of making music? Hell yes! When you compare this stuff to the other music that was coming out in 1976, be it AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Rush, etc. It's much more optimistic and fun to listen to. Sure, it could be argued that these other bands were better at making music, at least in the technical sense, and you will find no argument from me here. The Ramones didn't even have a guitar solo unitl Road To Ruin and that solo was just the same note being repeated again and again. The Ramones thus started Punk Rock. By diluting all of these "serious rock bands" back into 3-4 chords and a pop melody they simplified the music for the majority and made everyone happy.

Of course this album didn't sell worth ***. It has "Blitzkrieg Bop" on it, yeah, but that song didn't chart until Pet Semetary came out, and only then was it a hit. It would be this continuous non-selling of their music that would cause them to try things that they should never have tried. Watered down punk just doesn't sound good.

But history is boring. What we have here is 14 of the best songs ever recorded. From "Blitzkrieg Bop" to "Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World" it is nearly impossible to listen to this album without a smile on your face. All of these songs (with the exception of "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend") go at full speed and never suffer from it. All of the songs are catchy as all hell. Sure people are always telling me "all of these songs sound the same", but I would have to disagree, they just aren't listening carefully enough. Every vocal melody is different, and even with the same 3-4 chords they use in every song, the change either the sequence or rhythm of the chords so that they are, in fact different songs. And oh the songs! "Blitzkrieg Bop"and "Beat On The Brat" are anthemic as hell and get stuck in your head before the song even finishes. They're so damn simple! "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" is perhaps one of the prettiest love songs I have ever heard, and I don't even know why... It's ugly! But in a good way! Have you ever looked at Joey Ramone??

Review is awkward:

- It reeks of fanboy
- You don't explain why the songs are so good other than "its anthemic" or "its catchy"
- Theres no conclusion
- Some sentences don't flow too well together

"Of course this album didn't sell worth ***. It has "Blitzkrieg Bop" on it, yeah, but that song didn't chart until Pet Semetary came out, and only then was it a hit. This doesn't add much to the review, and if you were going to use it then it would've been better placed at the end, to summarise what the band did after this album.

Not a good review overall, I'd take it down and edit it if I were you.

Oh, and Ramones are boring.
