Review Summary: This isn’t Ms. Jackson’s “comeback” album but a reminder of her staying power!

Style: R&B/Pop/Dance

The R&B and dance-pop dominate the entire making it a cohesive record. The interludes between the tracks help carry the album and make it a little more personal. Feedback the lead single was a great choice for Janet show she stills has it. The first I heard the track I was floored. Luv is quirky song about how Janet relates a car crash to falling in love singing “He ran a red light/ And hit me with his luv, luv, luv” Rollercoaster is a Daft Punk vibe with the beats swirling and twisting like well a rollercoaster. However Janet’s soft voice gets lost in the verses of the track. Rock With U once you hear the verse and chorus blended in the electro beats you heard the entire song. This track could have been better if the lyrics weren’t repeated over and over again. If you can find the instrumental give it a listen.

2night is possibly the best dance track on the album and has the potential to be released as a single. Whenever I listen to Discipline I make sure I hear this track. The record slows down from this point on starting with Can't B Good, while Never Letchu Go continues the slow R&B which is reminiscent of Janet’s love ballads in the 90’s with a well placed guitar riff near the end. Greatest X is somewhat similar to “Thinking About My Ex” from Damita Jo by it being about the one guy that was right for her and letting him go. The high energy picks back up with So Much Betta. Janet tells her love interest how she’s “so much betta” than the lady he’s with.

The 1 continues the up beat dance pop before slowing down for the closing tracks. The cymbal beat carries the song along with the horn blasts and Janet sings the chorus. What's Ur Name combines all the styles of the album for a delightful track. Ms. Jackson is still pursing her love interest at this point on the album not giving up until she knows his name. Discipline probably the most obvious dirty song on the record. The slow R&B groove keeps the energy of the song erotic. Curtains Another dirty song, but is more playful in tone than Discipline. Combining the pop, hip hop, and dance beats from the earlier songs on the album bend well to make this a good closing for the record.

Between Madonna’s Hard Candy, Kylie’s X and Janet’s Discipline. I have to give my top recommendation to Janet. Discipline proved to be more enjoyable and memorable than I thought and reminded me why I’m a Janet fan, or Ms. Jackson fan if you’re nasty.

There isn't really anything amazing on this album, but it's solid all-around.

Well let's see, the only Beatles album I have rated is a 3, so if you qualify that as disliking then sure.

Can't B Good is laughably bad.
