Drowning Pool is a four piece American hard rock group from Dallas, Texas. This is their first CD entitled Sinner. Dave Williams was the singer of the hard rock group until he died of natural causes. Ryan McCombs from Soil is now the singer and Drowning Pool are in the studio finishing another CD.

Drowning Pool is (for this album):
Dave Williams (RIP): Vocals
C.J. Pierce -Guitars
Stevie Benton -Bass
Mike Luce - Drums

Drowning Pool – Sinner (2001)

Most of you have probably heard of these guys through one song, Bodies. That song was banned from the radio due to its lyrical content and how close it resembles the 9/11 tragedy at the World Trade Center. I am kind of sad that they took it off of the radio, though. It starts out with Dave whispering "Let the bodies hit the floor" four times, and on the forth time, he screams the word floor which starts the whole shebang. Sinner, the title track is the first one on the CD and was featured in NHL Hitz 2003. It is kind of an anti-Christ song, but still very catchy.

Tear Away was probably the song that got me into this band, other than Bodies. It starts out very slow and has a very good vocal message. The guitar isn’t forced and matches well with the bass. The drum beat is very good and it creates a radio friendly song. Follow is my personal favorite on the CD and is the song which introduced me to Drowning Pool. It was on the PS One version of THPS 3. The guitars are tuned to drop B and they do a good job of adding harmonics and good rhythm sections. The verses are fragments of sentences trying to get a point across, such as
"Here I am, understand
With this comes frustration"
and the chorus
"better way to follow through
I'm far from done
The truth is right there in front of you
A better way to follow through
I'm far from done
The truth is right there in front of me."

He is trying to say that the truth is right in front of all us, but we can’t realize that yet. This is my favorite song on the CD.

Mute is another good one as it starts out with clean guitar that goes into distortion. The lyrics are pretty catchy as well, there is a solo that hugs the rhythm guitar and the bass, but does a good job revolving around it. The structure is a typical rock song structure, soft verse, loud chorus, but Dave got his point across.

Overall, the guitar can add some very catchy riffs and the bass is audible. Dave Williams had some killer vocals on this CD and it is a shame he still isn’t here to write more like this. The guitar lines with Dave’s vocals WILL get stuck in your head for a while. I will give this CD a 5/5 because it is the classic hard rock in modern times.

Good Things about the CD-
Dave Williams vocals
There are guitar solos
Extremely atchy songs

Bad Things about the CD-
Gets repetitive
Bass hugs guitar lines too much, although it is audible
Could use more guitar solos
Kind of a short CD (but a classic nonetheless).

Recommended Songs:
Bodies
Tear Away
All Over Me
Mute
Follow

Nobody had reviewed this yet, so I thought I would give it a shot. Hope you like it.

You did an okay job at reviewing three songs on the album. That's pretty much all you did. You should read the around site for some examples of what you should do, specifically reviews by Iluvatar, Med 57 and/or Hep Kat will set you along the right path.

It's not really an overall review though. It's a rather average track-by-track, but only of three songs. You've got good writing skills, I think. You're just not using them.

Edit:

I usually read yours and iluvatars

I love Tear Away, very good song, but I found the last half of the album to sort of drift together, you know? I couldnt tell you the names of any of the songs in the last half of the album because they all sound the same.

This album is horribly repetitive in song type and structure, with the exception of Sinner. Wore thin on me very quickly. Haven't heard their second album (the one with the chick on the cover)

the singer tried to sound like Dave and failed miserably. it is just screaming on the other album. that is all it is

Not anywhere close to a classic album. It's enjoyable once in a while but not all the time no matter the circumstances and in 10 years, we'll remember nu-metal (it'll probably still exist) but there will be no recollection of Drowning Pool. I got this album for free maybe 4 years ago. I do remember learning the tearing away solo and being really proud of myself back then.

This album is truly about as average and dull as you can get.

The first four tracks are the best. The album kind of falls off after that. Still a great one though.

I was first introduced to DP when I heard Follow on Jeremy McGrath's Supercross World (on GC) in '03. Though it's not my favorite song, it's still pretty decent.
