So back in 2005, The Bloodhound Gang released a new dose of their always great and always funny rock music, entitled Hefty Fine. The Bloodhound Gang has always been known for their outrageous sense of humor, hilarious and often times offensive skits, and the great blend of rock, rap, and dance beats. Jimmy Pop and the rest of the Gang didn’t disappoint with the latest album, seeing as there is no absence of the bands sense of humor and musicianship. The cover alone displays the bands strange and absurd sense of humor. But don’t let the cover scare you, you should know what to expect.
To start off, let’s take a look at the skits. The skits range from the band making jokes about certain anonymous white rappers from Detroit (hmmmmm……), Jimmy taking the Browns to the Super bowl while on the phone (figuratively), and a reenactment of something the band members heard in a restaurant parking lot. The amount of skits is just right, and are a welcome break in between the songs. Every skit is hilarious in its own way and is funny even heard over and over.
Now for the songs. The songs range from a very heavy side of the band in Balls Out, to techno, house tracks in Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss. It appears the goal of this cd is to bring in new fans by exploring new areas of the music spectrum. Of course the trademark rock tracks are on here, like Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo, and Ralph Wiggum. The aforementioned songs are all great songs, but the song which lacks is Farting with a Walkman On.
The only downside to this album to me is the lack of songs and the length of the cd. The cd is far too short (only a little over 40 minutes) and leaves you craving more. The songs for the most part are signature of the Bloodhound Gang, but just aren’t enough to curve the ever ravenous appetite of their fans.
Now if you are already a fan of the music, why haven’t you picked this up. But people new to the music of these guys, might find that they must be weaned on to it via some of the earlier stuff. So definitely go get it if you are a fan, but sample some of the tracks or get the previous recordings if you want to hear the best stuff.
