Review Summary: They turned on the fountain today.

It’s finally over. It’s done with. The final day of college has come around and you’re back home with your face in your pillow. Finally, you’re rid of all those stupid kids who thought life was all about cheap beer and kegstands. No longer will the sight of those mallrat goth kids who were never prepared for the real world plague your eyes. You can finally wake and sleep whenever you want. Go and do whatever you want. The next choices you make are yours to make alone. Well, not completely alone. Your best friends are still by your side, listening to all the new music that released today. Picking your face off the pillow, you step towards the window to take a look out of the place you’re renting. The streets of the suburbs are always filled with kids going around to find something new to do. You just smile and head back inside to go talk with your friends as they get ready to start band practice. This is the point of your life where everything opens up and you find new purpose. But it’s never that easy, right?

Things don’t feel right for some reason. You’re miles away from the college you spent all of your days at. The bouts of depression that haunted your nights should have gone away as soon as you got back home. But the problem is, you’ve grown cynical. The world doesn’t seem as bright as it should. All of the people around you, save for your friends, are either homophobic, overly religious or just walking stereotypes of the state you live in. You grew up in South Philly, but you’ve never felt so distant from it. It could be worse you guess. But most days are still just bad days for you. That is, until one fateful day you ride down 19th to Logan Circle. Something miraculous happens. The fountain turns on before your very eyes. The fountain that seemed chronically dry, and everyone always walked around without giving a second thought. That day, you feel something start to change in you.

Life has opened up, and you’ve finally decided how to spend it. At least, how to spend it for now. You go show to show, shouting along with your band using all the air in your lungs. The loud guitars and energetic drumming serve as a optimistic backdrop for your life as you try to balance out the feelings going on in your head. It’s getting easier everyday, especially when the crowd gets on stage with you and starts jumping around the band. The van has always been where you’ve felt most comfortable, so driving from town to town and sitting in the back couldn’t make you happier. Each show has you shouting and banging your head to the distorted riffs filling the soundscape of the venue. I’m not sad anymore, I’m just tired of this place. If this year would just end, I’d think we’d all be okay.

this sentence: "Each show has shouting and banging your head to the distorted and sometimes muted power chords of your friends guitar interacting with the ever quick and hyper Mike on drums." makes no sense tho I'd re-word that

ooh, really cool review here mate, love the interweaving of some lyrics into the piece, and nails a lot of the album's themes.

"All of the people around you, save for your friends, are either homophobic, overly religious or just walking stereotypes of the state you live in." Kind of take issue with the over generalised tone of this line, but I get what you are trying to say.

having just finished uni this makes me feel like an old man

Just jammed it because of this review cus I figured I should by now. I love Generation and Suburbia but this has a much less powerful sound to it. Still OK, but it can't touch the other two.
