Review Summary: It's all been said before, but there's always a point worth making so say it again and shout it louder.

The Sleaford Mods are a duo who pick up, digest and spit out the day to day mundanity of modern day cultural mulch by confronting it with good old fashioned humour, rage and D.I.Y simplicity.

There is no other band around at the minute who are daring to break from conformity and do their own thing on such plain and simple terms and yet hit the nail so strikingly on the head.

The brilliantly titled English Tapas is the Nottingham duos first foray into a fully rounded, stereo produced album and despite some genuine singing from vocalist Jason Williamson (including a full on crooned closer) the Mods sound has lost nothing in the formula of repeated loops, minimal beats and warts and all ranted vitriol. Compromise is non-existent in the Mods world and our world is what they are going to take the piss out of whether you like it or not.

Musically there is nothing to deconstruct here. This is sparked, stabbed, buckshot electronic beats with bass compiled by Andrew Fern to frame Williamsons’ passionately conveyed vocals about sincerely observed cultural topics encompassing Brexit, the elite, paranoia, trendy nonsense, superficiality, brazen drug use, frivolity, getting spannered and bollocks politics.

Drayton Manored with it’s chorus of “A trip to SPAR is like a trip to Mars” having confessed that “We are the dumb Brits lobbing down one pint cans of imported ***.” says more about the populous that walk the littered streets than anything you will hear from non exisitent authorities on the matter.

Every song here has at least one lyric that strikes either comically, ferociously, or as an outright address to the nation.

The album is an insight into reality for those who have lived it. The dreams over, the dawning realisation that things are *** has become something to deal with so make things more bearable, bob your head and chant along with the Mods. They are here to save you……YOU FAT BASTARDS YOU FAT BASTARDS

I'll put it to 'em next time I see 'em. I'm sure they'll be happy to compromise, full on orchestra on their next effort I'm sure.

Cheers dude.

This is all about what is said. Everything else is made redundant and meaningless. Should the next album have Jason waffling on about his purchases at Marakesh street markets and recipes for cous cous i might have to 3.5 it.

I'll check this ASAP, at the very least I expect the lyrical dynamic to be sharp and interesting; I love stream of consciousness and shameless honesty in lyricism, and that's what these guys do best.

Essential review, '[beep beep] a trip to SPAR is like a trip to Mars [beep beep]' is the chorus of the year hands down, nothing else will come close.

The intro to 'Just Like We Do' is a warning to us all:

"yes yes I'm going to listen to some rustic noise from 1982 recorded in the black forest of Germany yes yes and I'm going to twizzle my beard yes yes and I'm going to do that...you know I used to be someone" "bleeeeuuuuuurghhhhh!"

Also is the melody they're taking the piss out of on 'Just Like We Do' a variation on the one from the verses of 'Word Up' lol?

I genuinely think this might be their best doof. More vinegar than the last one not as much salt as divide and exit.

just like we do was my best on first listen but this album is chock full of class moments.

I'm gutted I don't really remember the gig. I blame you obvs.

Oh snap. Didn't know this was out! Can't get enough of that disaffected, blue collar, vitriolic verse. Also, pos'd.

I just remember the occasional soundbites that must have imprinted my drunken brain - quavers, fat bastards, BHS, superdry, angel of the midlands...

'Car crash into the void of the Magna Carta

But this time it's Superdry and not fucking armour

How dare I slam the uniform of the working class!!'

The way he delivers that last line is so fucking funny...I am tempted to 5 this album, a few tunes just need to grow on me

It's like I mention, every tune has an almighty line buried away in it. It's up there with early Dylan! lol.
