Review Summary: An okay album, but they need to go back to the drawing board.
OK since I got a lot of *** about me not talking enough about music on my last review, here is one to hopefully redeem myself (as if I have to). This is VOM's 3rd full length release that dates back to 2010. Before we get into this however, I have to say this is my least favorite album by Veil Of Maya for some reasons. I will be breaking down most of these things in effort to show my opinion and hopefully reflect on others. The first thing I am going to address is the production; this is the biggest flaw of the album. Idk wtf keene was smoking while working on this, but whatever it was, it was some dank ***. The guitar needs to be turned way the *** down and the bass needs to be turned way the *** up. Drums make me want to kms because the tracks they used for this album sound like it was recorded with a refrigerator, and finally the vocals are so quiet and dense I need to turn my volume up to max to ***ing hear it. Okay now that my "Rant" is over, I can finally get into the pros. Most of the songs are pretty damn good, my favorite is the second track "Unbreakable". I tried playing the ending breakdown on drums and it throws me off so hard. This is a great example of how they implicate technicality into their music. One thing I have to bitch about is the guitar though. Marc doing this sort of accidental thing in most of his songs, and it got old really ***ing quick; also Sam ain't no angel either. I think there were way to much blast beats implemented into most of the songs, especially "Resistance". Bass is really quiet and undertone, it blows right past you when listening to this album. Brandon really had a frog in his throat or something when recording vox for this album. They sounded really raspy, especially when he hit higher range. Last but not least i'll talk about this albums length, which clocks in at a mere 29 minutes, their shortest album to date. All in all I think this is an alright album, but they could have definitely tweaked some things to make it sound a hell of alot better then what it came out as.
