Review Summary: Vince Staples shows versatiliy and intricate storytelling with new EP, Prima Donna

Last year, Vince Staples proved himself as one of the genre’s most important voices. With Summertime ’06, Staples provided an intricate look into the life of urban Black youth in America and with this new record Vince Staples turns that probing look into the tragic perspective of one dissatisfied by fame and haunted by the spectral memories generated by institutional racism and gang violence. If his recent album and past mixtapes had shown Vince Staples as a deft communicator of important issues, listening to Prima Donna shows his versatility as he flows over minimalist, lo-fi beats.

i didn't like this one as much as his last two projects, maybe it'll grow on me though. agreed that the interludes are pretty off-putting

Nah Vincent Stapler is the fuckin truth. I gotta say though, I like the guy's personality more than his music. His interviews are always entertaining.

"yeah thats what i think too mostly and people tell me im an idiot"

you're not an idiot; i can actually understand why. the most interesting part about this whole ep is the beats, rather than Vince himself
