Review Summary: Spring is coming.

After the massive success of “Peripheral Vision” it’s safe to say that everyone in the indie, emo, and pop-punk scenes are waiting with bated breath for Turnover’s next release. The “Humblest Pleasures EP” is just two tracks, the A-Side “Humblest Pleasures” and the B-Side “Change Irreversible,” but if they’re a hint at what is to come on their next LP than you have every right to be excited.

There is a strong shoegaze presence on both songs. The title track is both the catchiest and smoothest song that the band has recorded yet. There’s a crooning cross between a hum and whistle that Austin Getz breathes out after the first verse that’s simply magnetic. The chorus is incredibly memorable as Getz recalls sex with a past lover and lamenting how “I know that I’ll forget it.” The A-Side is seriously a contender for best song by the band.

The B-Side is the longest track by Turnover to date at five minutes. There’s a heavy reverb on the twang of the guitars, fleeting in and out of the background. It’s a solid song, nothing too noteworthy, but very laid back, relaxed, and definitely worthy of the band’s discography.

If “Magnolia” was the band’s winter album and “Peripheral Vision” their summer then this EP is their spring. Get ready for the thaw and the blooming.

My first attempt at a very short review, just above a soundoff. Critiques wanted.

Review was right to the point, and well written. Pos. Peripheral Vision is their best up until now (even though I was a sucker for their pop punk debut EP), but this sounds very promising. Kinda in line with their reverby shoegaze sound on Peripheral Vision, but there something different about it. More upbeat, but still mellow.

thanks DB.

upbeat but mellow is pretty much the perfect way to describe their music.

@ Atari Yeah man me too. I liked the overall sound the first time Peripheral Vision, but more listens definitely made me more attached to it. PS I always get stoked when I see your Folk Aesthetic avatar.

@ruf I got to see them live a couple months ago and they were so good. They only played Peripheral Vision songs though.

they seem like a studio band honestly. i'd love to catch them with Sorority Noise but i've seen their AudioTree set and Getz aint that good of a live singer. of course live is always better in person.

Been waiting for this to be released. I liked Peripheral Vision so I'm guessing I'll probably like these couple of tracks if they're along the same lines, i.e dream poppy/shoegazey.

first off, only tumblrcore-worshipping hipsters were waiting with "bated breath" for this.

second of all, I now know no more about this 7" after having read this review other than the A-side is "catchy" and "smooth" and the B-side is long and the guitars have a "twang" and are tracked with seemingly excessive reverb. up your description game, sen.

I mean seriously the mothafuckas who pos'd this and are commenting saying this is well-written, you ever read anything by JohnnyOnTheSpot or acad?

I think it's decent considering it's your first review. Agree on the second track: It's not boring, but it's not mind-blowing either. The title track is great though.

its not his first review aha and although I agree the description should be better, it still is well written and reviewing a 2 song EP is pretty damn tough

I'm hoping this grows, but at this point I don't think these songs really stack up to peripheral vision

just got the 7" today. looks and sounds gorgeous.

it's also really funny to play it at 33 rpm. the humming part sounds incredible slowed down ha.

I liked these tracks as much as my least favorite PV songs, which is to say that they're decent, and I could see why someone else my like them, but doesn't hit me like a "Dizzy on the Comedown" or a "New Scream" does. I'm looking forward to see what these guys come back with some time on a full length.

i wish the transition between the tracks were smoothier but honestly this is as perfect as a 2 track ep gets
