Review Summary: Back and as strong as ever.

Technical Metalcore act "After The Burial" are back with their first LP since 2013. Recorded in the immediate aftermath of the tragic passing of guitarist Justin Lowe there was no doubt the band would be under the microscope regarding their future moves and decisions. Choosing to move on as a 4-piece and now missing a key songwriter and founding member made me wonder how the bands sound/style would be affected, but upon my first listen of "Dig Deep" I realized that at heart this is still the same band that had Justin in it.

Heavy, groove laced 8 string riffs, the signature energetic vocal performance of Anthony Notormaso, and catchy leads are all still there and as strong as ever. Featuring some of the heaviest moments in the bands history and just by looking at the tracklist/artwork it becomes obvious this album was inspired by loss and the feelings surrounding it. It's an emotional display, although one lacking in progression, which to be honest is something I don't think fans of the band expected. Dig Deep' is similar to their previous effort, 2013's "Wolves Within", in that the band seems comfortable toning down the technicality of their earlier work and chugging along to catchy, head banging mosh-fests. Thats not to say they've completely abandoned their roots because songs such as "Lost in The Static" and "The Endless March" will most definitely take fans back to the early days.

This was a defining moment in the bands history and I see this album as a success and one that would make their fallen brother proud. The band have proven that they could overcome anything and continue on strong and the title of the album couldn't be any more fitting. They really did dig deep on this album and it shows. Well done lads.

"Recored in the immediate aftermath"

Recorded*

"An emotional display although one lacking in progression which to be honest is something I don't think fans of the band expected."

needs a comma before "although" and after "progression". a few other sentences could use commas but this is the most glaring one

good shit seeing you reviewing again

Didn't they finish recording this before Justin died?

Yeah I believe they wrote it with Justin and recorded it with him before he passed away.

Hey man, fairly good review. I would check some of your sentences, they seem to run-on and read awkwardly. If you want I can be more specific.

I'm definitely curious about this album. I wasn't big on "The Wolves Within" but we'll see if this does anything for me.

Been with this band since their first album! WOW these guys just continue to improve and sound amazing! I am having a hard time finding my favorite song since all of them are so damn groovy! This might even be better then Rareform....very tough call!

No problem! I totally get that there's almost a sense of urgency when it comes to reviewing something.

"Choosing to move on as a 4-piece and now missing a key songwriter and founding member with the unfortunate reasoning behind it made me wonder how the bands sound/style would be affected, but upon my first listen of "Dig Deep" I realized that at heart this is still the same band that had Justin in it."

This whole sentence is a monster. I would omit "with the unfortunate reasoning behind it". I know that it's important to understand the circumstances of his death but that sentence is a little bloated and needs some trimming. Either assume the reader knows about his death or talk about it earlier in the review but where it's place just muddles the sentence.

"Heavy, groove laced 8 string riffs, the signature energetic vocal performance of Anthony Notormaso and catchy leads are all still there and as strong as ever."

Oxford comma between "Notormaso" and "and".

"An emotional display, although one lacking in progression, which to be honest is something I don't think fans of the band expected."

Add "It's" before "an emotional..." otherwise it's a fragment.

"Similar to their previous effort 2013's "Wolves Within" the band seem comfortable toning down the technicality of their early work and chugging along focusing on writing catchy head banging mosh-fests."

This sentence is confusing in general. The verb tense is a little screwy and the end it a run-on. Try something like this:

" 'Dig Deep' is similar to their previous effort, 2013's "Wolves Within", in that the band SEEMS comfortable toning down the technicality of their earlier work and chugging along to catchy, head banging mosh-fests."

I hope these help.
