Whitehouse understood the need fans had for new Whitehouse material and, after not releasing anything in 1991; decided to release two albums a year later. The first being
Twice Is Not Enough. This record was the continuation of Whitehouse's evolution into a completely new entity as Steve Albini was determined to drive this band into a new direction. This was evident in their first track
To Die a distorted echo would drown the track while heavy microphone feedback and synth abuse permeated throughout. The feedback would only get worse in
Neronia a track that was like drilling a needle straight into your brain and twisting it over and over again.
Fanatics makes heavy use of distorted percussion insanity while continuing the microphone feedback and increasing the intensity in William's vocal volume. Soon, this is ended by an odd synth noise that reminds me of Space Rock for some weird reason. The track gets even worse as howling and odd screaming is heard throughout the track.
Fanatics remains one of the highlights on this album. The frequency of
Heads You Lose makes dedicated listening almost impossible, as I am forced to take small breaks throughout the track in order to give my ear room to recover.
The White Whip makes more use of static alongside the screeching feedback. Suddenly it is all changed in
Masters of the Overviolence which brings a soft squeak noise along with some synths and William's belching roar. This concept continues over in
Revolution, but changes course in the final track
Twice Is Not Enough screaming and whipping and screeching flow out the track as I am left on my fucking knees begging for a quick end.
It hurts, it hurts so fucking much, but that's the point. Twice Is Not Enough hates you, it really fucking hates you and you love it. Power Electronics fans are masochists through and through. We take the pain as pleasure and we embrace it. Every time Will hits us with another track, the only response he gets is "hit me more". Hit me fucking more, I love it. It hurts so much and I motherfucking love it. Whitehouse is about dominating you like a fat hooker to a skinny white boy with a mommy complex. It's like A Serbian Film without the narrative, a snuff film without the illegality. It's beauty lies in it repeatedly dominating you more and more and you just continuously asking for more.
