The Plot In You is traditionally a Metalcore band from Ohio. But now they have shifted out of the Metalcore genre and have created a genre of its own. Happiness In Self Destruction pushes the envelope of The Plot In You’s talent. Landon Tewers (Vocalist) wrote the most outrageous lyrics and put them together to create this twisted, but flawless, record.
Happiness In Self Destruction was definitely created to make your skin crawl starting with track one. This isn’t the first album they have tried this technique. The Plot In You has done it from their first EP. But don’t get me wrong, this record is their most versatile album ever. Happiness In Self Destruction has a mix of really heavy songs (Ex. Mind Controlled) and soft songs (Ex. Time Changes Everything).
But the mix of heavy and soft songs doesn’t make the album. It’s Landon Tewers vocal range. Whether it’s his eerie whispers, trembling screams, deep gutturals, or haunting cleans, Landon has truly perfected his vocal range down to the last bit.
Happiness In Self Destruction was released on a new label called Stay Sick Recordings, founded by Fronz of Atilla. They signed to this group due to a fallout with Rise Records because The Plot In You didn’t write the words the Record Company wanted The Plot In You to write. Music doesn’t get better than Happiness In Self Destruction, especially in the track “Living Your Dream”. Even though this track is only almost two and a half minutes, this track has a huge combination of all of the projects Landon Tewers has worked on. Another song I really like is “Washed Up”. I like “Washed Up” for the opposite reason of “Living Your Dream”: “Washed Up” sounds very different than the rest on the album.
In conclusion, Happiness In Self Destruction is a perfect example of how a band should evolve. It is an album that combines past releases and side projects as well as adopting a new sound to separate themselves from the rest. Not only is it different, but it’s something that older fans will love as well as newcomers alike. The three year wait for this album was totally worth it and the work put into it was clearly shown.
