Review Summary: Pop music for weed junkies The opening track of Magic Mustache is initially nothing but feedback. Waves, ripples, and shrieks of guitars all wander about as one wonders when the song will take form. Then halfway through the song, a riff reminiscent of Black Sabbath’s “Hole In The Sky” barges in and captures the listener’s attention for the song's remaining minute and a half. It is these 3 minutes that will be able to describe what the album’s like: a drug-fueled feedback-seething tribute to old-school rock bands like Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy except with a catchy, upbeat quality that lends to a much happier high than expected.
Magic Mustache , the follow-up to 2012’s On Blonde, is one part the heavy grooves of Black Sabbath, one part the echoes and atmosphere of Hawkwind; one part the addicting “robot rock” rhythms of Queens of the Stone Age, one part the murkiness and organ soloing of trippy 70’s prog, and all parts weed infested shoegaze from outer space. This is in no small part due to the fact that there is more than one person playing, allowing for a much greater sense of atmosphere. At the same time, Magic Mustache carries a very positive, poppy vibe to its songs, which only strengthens the appeal of the music within it. The psychedelic vibes will bring listeners in but the short song times, memorable hooks, and strong rhythmic focus will keep them hooked for more than one listen.
Every corner of this album has been permeated with drugs. From the murky production, to the shoegaze echoes, to the constant feedback, everything about this album has been brought to its maximum drug-friendliness. The instruments were utilized with every intention of emphasizing the “stoner” part of “stoner rock”. Yet, at the same time, the album’s memorable hooks and general grooviness help keep it accessible for casual listeners.

-Remove comma after Lizzy, reads a little better without.
Pos'd man, nice review. I love the brevity of it.
Maybe change the tagline to: Pop music for potheads?
| | | Even with that though, people that smoke weed still enjoy "regular" pop music. I get where you're coming
from, but I would revisit changing it altogether.

thanks signal, but I'm not feeling the need to change the summary, mainly cause "weed junkie" sounds a hell of a lot better than "pothead", and it's pretty obvious what I'm trying to say anyway
cheers for the suggestion though
| | | Eh, I always try to force criticism because I feel lazy when I consistently write, "gud rev, possssddd" but you and others write very well.

It's all good, I get what you're trying to say from with that

By the way you should totally check this out
| | | I will definitely give it a shot. Hopefully I can get to it next week; working a double right now.

Last time I tried working on two reviews at once I got so exhausted that I ended up scrapping both of 'em lol
| | | Lol I mean an actual double at my real job. I do have two albums in mind to review though, starting with The
Amazing's new one.

Okay now I get your comment(I'm wondering how I missed what it was saying earlier)
| | | All good dude. How do you generally come across the new music you review? Just curious.

I usually find them by either just searching through Bandcamp and finding something that catches my interest, or just going through Sputnik news articles saying "new X LP streaming"
| | | I do the bandcamp thing as well, mostly just for instrumental hip-hop and ambient though. Cool dude.
| | | First Black Pussy review on Sputnik, and a fine one at that! From your description, this sounds a lot like their debut, which tbh I wasn't to fond of. I loved their split with biblical proof of UFOs, though.
I discovered this band when they supported Vista Chino in 2013, they play a rad show. I bought one of their albums and asked them to sign it, at which point their frontman, Dustin Hill, signed it and wrote "SMOKE WEED" in big letters.
Permeated with drugs indeed :P
