Review Summary: Not as great as "Way of the Fist" and "War is the Answer", but still listenable...

Five Finger Death Punch's "American Capitalist" is the third studio album in the band's discography. It's an album that I really had high hopes for because of how awesome their second studio album, "War Is The Answer", turned out and I couldn't wait to hear their new material at the time.

I was immediately disappointed when I heard the intro riffs to the first two songs on the album ("American Capitalist", "Under and Over It")... the riffs sounded very SIMILAR to each other! The only tiny differences are that the rhythms of both riffs are slightly altered, but are played in the same position on a 7 string guitar. I know this because I play guitar (I've been a guitarist for the past 8 years) and I learned both riffs by ear. From that point, I knew this album wasn't going to have that same creative, inspired charm that "War Is The Answer" and "Way Of The Fist" had. Not that I expected for "American Capitalist" to sound similar to the two previous albums. I just expected for Five Finger Death Punch to treat each song on "American Capitalist" the way they did in their other albums. The song writing instrumentally and lyrically just seemed a bit dull and uninspired in some parts. It was almost like they didn't spend as much time writing the songs on this album like they did with the others. It may have been because they were rushed to finish the album to meet tour dates and/or studio deadlines. I don't know if that was the case. I sure seems that way.

Despite the first two songs having similar sounding intro riffs, "American Capitalist" as a whole isn't a total let down. Most of the songs on the album are melodic, catchy, well written and Jason Hook's lead guitar playing is amazing as usual. Songs like "Coming Down", "Remember Everything", and "Under and Over It" are the ones that I enjoyed the most from the album and they're the songs that I recommend to check out.

Would I recommend anyone buying or checking out "American Capitalist"? Yes indeed, I would! It may not be their greatest work, in my opinion, but it's still a good album to listen to every now and then.

Game's right, could use work. First off, avoid putting song titles and album names in italics. It's confusing to the reader and it looks sloppy. Put song titles in italics and do something else for album names. Second off, the review just feels rushed. I'm a fan of the band, and while I agree that the riffs for the first two songs do sound the same, you needed to expand a lot more on how the album sounded as a whole, and not just individual songs. Believe me, it's much more effective to go through the album as a whole. What I would suggest is one paragraph for the album as a whole, and another for standout tracks. Game, you are a more experienced reviewer than me, so correct any of this you don't agree with. Also, elaborate more on the overall sound: they've got some great riffs and solos, but don't just talk about the guitar specifically, try and include vocals and things like that. Also, specific examples of things you didn't like would help as well. Why does the songwriting seem dull and uninspired lyrically? And recommended tracks are great to explain as well, why do you recommend those songs for the listener? It's not terrible or bad, and for a first review, you did well. No pos or neg, cause it could use some work, but good effort.

Not a great review, bud.

There are things in this review that the reader wouldn't care about, for instances no one cares

about how long you've been playing guitar, people want to read about the pros

and cons of the album in question.

Your review also doesn't really tell me a damn thing about the songs or the album at all, really, a

part from the first two songs sounding similar.

Still, I've read worse first reviews. Just some stuff to take on board for review number two, man.

To clarify metalheadrunner's first point, I'd suggest song titles in quotations and album titles in italics. They'll distinctly differ and yet stand out in the reading.

This band is everything that is wrong with modern metal

Bland, uninspired songwriting? check!

Overly macho lyrics? check!

The same predictable formula used in every song? check!

The whole bit about you being able to play the guitar is almost irrelevant. It's all very well that you can play the guitar, but remember; people wanna read about the album, not about you.

Also, don't use exclamation marks in serious reviews. It looks very amateur.

Won't neg seeing as it's your first review but you're gonna have to make some improvements.
