Review Summary: Give it a try if you're like me and still a hopeless believer in rock and roll

I'll always have a soft spot for a band trying to reignite rock and roll. Jet does at times achieve this lofty goal. Unfortunately, there just isn't enough quality material on Shine on to justify repeated listens.

"Put your money where your mouth is" is an excellent song, and plays particularly well on high volume with good speakers. The song begins with a cheeky guitar riff, falsetto vocals and a simple cow bell oriented drum beat. It works. The call and response vocals we hear in the chorus builds the song further. The guitar solo is a little weak, but rising chemistry of the band and the competing harmonies in the last seconds of the song save the day, capturing a roaring crescendo.

"Bring it on Back" is a touching song that builds nicely. It is possibly about Chris and Nichs' dying father. One of the strongest tracks on the album because it starts as a ballad and gloriously morphs into a stomping rocker as Nich is screeching "BRING IT ON BACK BRING IT ON BACK BRING IT ON BAAACK." Another highlight of Shine on is "Rip it Up," a high tempo rocker perfect for dancing the night away at your favourite dive bar.

"Come on, Come on" is a barometer for the record. It starts promisingly enough, but just becomes painfully generic and even feels lazy at times. It seems to me the band here had enough material for a good ep. What we get is an album with a handful of great tracks, some passable and about half stinkers. Shine on is disappointing because it lacks consistency, quality and energy. Luckily the band does buck this trend on several songs so it’s still worth a listen.

Not awful, but this overlong 2nd release by derivative Australian rock band contains few highlights ...

Bad album, only dig Get Born from Jet, and in small doses. Bad review as well, I'm sorry to say. Let me tell you why, maybe my criticism will help you in future reviews.

I hate that pitchfork review of this album with the monkey pissing on itself or whatever it is. Live performances have never been a strength of the band. This is what ultimately sealed their fate. Where does this album stack up alongside Get Born?

What you've got is 4 sentences that make absolutely no sense together. You mention Pitchfork's review, then you move on to live performances, and lastly you compare Shine On to Get Born, but there isn't anything that links all that information. To me it seems as if you stacked 'em up together carelessly. Also, capitalize "Pitchfork".

"Bring it on Back" is a touching song that builds nicely. Channel 7 used the song it in an AFL promo. I loved this. The song peaks as the the players leap for a pack mark. A uniquely Australian moment.

Again, there isn't a connection between that first sentence and that one when you compare Put Your Money to Are You Gonna Be My Girl. Also, that whole Channel 7 information is absolutely irrevelant, not to mention it's got a grammar error. In my advice, just take it out.

Rarely spoken about in "Get Born" the drumming was tremendous. Here it feels generic. How does that happen with the same drummer? There were no band member changes between albums. There is quite a bit of filler on this album.

Yet one more time, you go on and on about Jet's fallback on drumming, and out of nowhere you just move on to talk about filler songs. That doesn't make any sense, take out that filler part and put it somewhere else, where it sounds more logical.

Your review needs some serious rewriting, man. You're basing it around comparisons to Get Born far too much, and you've got a whole bunch of scrambled ideas that aren't logical, they don't make any sense together. I'm sorry man, neg'd from me. I'm not a fan of Shine On so much, besides Holiday, Rip It Up and Hey Kids. Besides Get Born, which is great in my opinion, Jet kind of sucks.
