Review Summary: Trivium are back on top of their game. After being accused by fans and critics of being Metallica copyists after their 2006 release ‘The crusade’ Trivium are back with a brand new album entitled ‘Shogun’. To say that Trivium have evolved is an understatement, while the crusade had an iconic 80s thrash metal style sound and a ‘we are young and can do anything’ mentality ‘Shogun’ has a very mature sound.
Trivium have definitely listened to critics and have combined elements that fans enjoyed from previous albums such as ‘Ascendency’ and ‘The Crusade’ while at the same time introducing new elements from european and scandinavian bands such as Opeth. These things combined with the band members improving their instrumental and lyrical skills as well as changing producer (The Brilliant Nick Raskulinecz) makes ‘Shogun’ at 66 minutes long an epic journey from the aggressive Kirisute Gomen to the fantastic Shogun.
Lyrically the songs seem to mainly be about Greek mythology such as the songs Torn Between Scylla And Charybdis and Like Callisto to A Star In Heaven, as well as japanese mythology (Kirisute Gomen and Shogun) and the apocalyptic Down from the Sky.
Shogun is a great album not only for existing fans of the band but people who are just discovering Trivium or metal music in general.

"Trivium are back on top of their game."
well, that's a relief.
| | | Trivium are back on top of their game.
This album came out in 2008 and they've had 2 albums since.
After being accused by fans and critics of being Metallica copyists after their 2006 release ‘The crusade’ Trivium are back with a brand new album entitled ‘Shogun’.
*copiers, *Crusade, there needs to be a comma after Crusade, and again, this album was released 6 years ago.
while the crusade had an iconic 80s thrash metal style sound and a ‘we are young and can do anything’ mentality ‘Shogun’ has a very mature sound.
Once again, the title needs to be italicized (or in quotes) and capitalized. Also, please proofread that.
while at the same time introducing new elements from european and scandinavian bands such as Opeth.
European and Scandinavian should be capitalized, also wtf?
instrumental and lyrical skills as well as changing producer (The Brilliant Nick Raskulinecz) makes ‘Shogun’ at 66 minutes long an epic journey from the aggressive Kirisute Gomen to the fantastic Shogun.
*instrumentation and lyricism, "The Brilliant" should be deleted for the reader's sake, and *an epic 66 minute long journey.
I'm not going to neg but holy fuck this review needs editing, and you really need to go into more detail about the album than that.
| | | Not going to neg but Snake has basically covered everything I was going to say.
I don't hear any opethian elements when I listen to this.
We've had a lot of newcomers this week haven't we?

I honestly understand your criticisms, I had to write a review for a school project and upload it online. Because I am dyslexic and I have never written a review before of cause there is going to be spelling mistakes. You should be glad to know that I never want to review anything in the future.
| | | I don't mean to be rude but one of the fundamental rules of reviews on this website is that school reviews don't belong on this website.
| | | Oh man now I feel sorry for you.
But yeah, this site isn't for school projects. Bless your cotton socks for trying though.

Right, I'll tell my teacher to update the information on the assignment brief, I was just told to write and upload the review to three websits including Sputnik. Again sorry all.

I guess I'll stick to producing music instead of reviewing it haha
| | | Oh well, you give it a go.

Bahaha. Well at least you've got a sense of humor :3
