Review Summary: Violets are blue, this is so underrated, you have no clue.

5 of 5 thought this review was well written

Roses are Red were a band that sadly fell to the wayside around the time the music scene they belonged to still held more integrity. It would take being there in the flesh to witness those golden years to fully grasp the calm before the storm. The environment kept a strong focus on substance over image and because of that agenda some amazing experiences flourished. It didn't take long for the now defunct Trustkill Records to sign one of the biggest unsung heroes of that era. The Rochester, New York alt. rock natives wasted not a moment making the most of the opportunity to create a big splash as fresh faces. After extensive touring in support of two full-lengths released within only a year apart they hit the studio to construct what would ultimately turn into their farewell magnum opus.

It's evident upon first listen how much passion was placed into What Became of Me by the level of emotional impact it conveys in the liner notes. The uplifting collection of songs features the ability to sweep through catering to any mood in need of remedy. The production sets a soothing tone that perfectly elicits the feeling of daydreaming while staring out the window on a rainy day. It's in the serene vocals where a great sense euphoria comes across those stuck in a trance of its hypnotic nature. In tow with the melody are reminiscent tunes in the vein of Halifax such as "Show Your Eyes," "Just Say The Words," and "Where I've Been" which offers a tranquil view into the instrumental elements. The album remains careful to abstain from somber excess by the inclusions of more pulse pounding avenues to show off Roses are Red’s prowess in upbeat elements.

The changing of seasons is a suiting way to describe the overall flow of What Became of Me since every transition feels like watching the scenery shift. Imagine when pressing play that spring has arrived in the first half where the leaves are beautifully forming all around outside. The summer air then slowly creeps up by the middle running time bringing the scorching heat along for the ride. In the blink of an eye fall descends in unison with the decorative trees as everything almost draws to a close. Then in the albums finale winter consumes the surrounding landscape and drives a chilling retreat into the confines of comfort. This is the encompassing revelation of the atmosphere contained within what is undoubtedly Roses are Red’s finest hour and will surely find some new homes to rest.

well yeah based off one song. I'm not gonna keep listening hoping that it will be different. I mean it's pretty normal to click the link the reviewer provided and take that song as more or less representative of the whole album. Plus, gauging by the comments section, it seems like that's the most popular, even "best" track from the album. So, yeah, I can safely assume that this isn't for me.

You weren't kidding about reviewing this soon. Nice write up. I enjoyed the comparisons of the album with the weather/seasons, very creative.

I could see how people might be turned off by his vocals. I still like this though. Remember Me is probably my favorite. The bass line is on the awesome side.

I think his vocals are extremely accessible and I wish this band would've been discovered more by people.

this isn't proggy at all. it's mellow/upbeat alt. rock with really infectious hooks. I'm sure you'd like it.
