Some People Deserve to Suffer collects the output of Stick Men With Ray Guns, a bunch of Texan punks whose brief existence left us with these songs of putrid, hate-filled bliss. The band had a couple of main strengths that are quickly apparent in the predominately live recordings on offer here, chief among them being a charismatic and genuinely disturbed frontman in the form of Bobby Soxx who shrieks and snarls throughout, and a band that, for the most part, whip up the kind of sonic ***storm he deserves. So, instead of another infamous GG Allin style figurehead with a sub-par musical backing, the best parts of this comp are the trudging relentlessness of tracks like the fantastic "What Am I”, “I’ll Kill Mother” and “Scavenger of Death”, where sheets of guitar noise and squall combine with the pounding backdrop and manic vocals to hypnotic effect. Attempts to branch out a little with some rockabilly/country songs are also welcome and mostly hit the mark. Some People Deserve to Suffer should be required listening for fans of Flipper, No Trend and the more recent groups such as Pissed Jeans who have taken some inspiration from this sound.
thanks. yeah, not really a fan of bloated multi paragraph reviews either. plus certain albums are only ever going to have niche appeal so essays aren't necessary
