Review Summary: This band is taking common materials that are heard commonly in this genre and creating something that is revolutionary and finally bringing something new to the table.
Woe is me is what appears to be a band that is mixed in with a huge number of bands that use the same technique and repetitive breakdowns here and there...but this band is not the case. Woe is me have taken music to where others within the genre wish they could achieve. The dub step influences don't feel forced into he songs like other bands do. The tracks are all connected together by some dub step beat or by a catchy riff. This makes the album feel whole, as if all of the songs were created to paint one single picture of incredible beats and original breakdowns that dont sound like you've heard them from another band.
The clean vocals are like no one has heard before in Metalcore, Tyler Carter takes the singing that would work in an entirely different genre and somehow makes it fit into the screams to make this band stand out even more among the rest. The screaming also sounds unique in its own way, a way that seems like it would only fit into this type of music. The lyrics force the listener into a state of deep thoughts, this is possible by how all of the instruments work together to make one song feel as if you just returned from a journey. The lyrics arent cliche nor are they Out of this world but they are original enough to feel as if this is a revolutionary break through in the metalcore genre.
The beginning is heavy enough to keep the listener interested and the final track ends the album on a high note. This band unfortunately has lost their both of their vocalist and some other members as of March 2012 they did make a single called Vengeance with the new clean vocalist Hance Alligood which is as equally impressive as their debut album.
As for the future of Woe is me, that is up for the band to decide, obviously there is alot of behind the scenes drama going on and lets hope for the sake of the band they can settle down and get things worked out. They have brought something fresh to the ears of the fans of metalcore and without a doubt this album should not be over looked, this is a must have for many listeners.
