Jasad perhaps isn't big name among other popular brutal death bands in the world. Anyhow, if you're searching for finest brutal death stuff, you should consider Jasad in your list. Jasad, which means corpse or body if translated into English, is Bandung-based band, Indonesia. In their homeland country and South Eastern Asia regional scene, Jasad is oftentimes considered as one of brutal death pioneers. I agree with that predicate. Jasad, beyond question has deserved it. Through the real awesome of brutal death release, Jasad has shown us that they definitely can't be ignored!
The main reason why I love Jasad is because of the fuc
king insane burping and growling vocals. Oh ghost, just check out their second 2005’s Annihilate The Enemy
, the answer lies within. Jasad vocalist, Man (just for your notice, Man is a name, I don't know yet what his full name is), is definitely crazy bastard that destroys every single word of the lyrics into his piggy squeal guttural vocals. I even would love Justin Bieber if he sings his fuc
king "baby-baby-ooh.." turn in this Annihilate The Enemy
way. His vocals type isn't monotonously gibberish. He adopts various style patterns into his own. That's right that vocally Jasad has used what any brutal death band has ever used in growl and guttural way, but Jasad has made vocals part a trademark. The way Man growls (or burps) with his own flavors like wind whisper, piggy squeal, and dark whistling undoubtedly have been increasing my enthusiastic into their musical works.
In musical part, it's fair to say that Jasad impressively fitted to vocals part. In the side of album’s lengthy, Annihilate The Enemy
contains ten tracks with 36 minutes of music - such duration is more than enough to punch and slam you rightly in the face. You can hear absolutely enormous and energetic sound. Don't expect much melodic riffing here, Jasad didn't offer it, but if you want a massive killer guitar sound, this album is definitely the stuff! Opened with song Raking The Weak
, yeah, Jasad surely has raked all weakness of the performance. This song is great opening track. The reason is, it will bring us to realize then we might say such this; "Oh damn hell, the whole track should be more sadistic and fiercely kicking-ass! But, oh please, don't kick my balls-my only two balls, my precious - you may say “my precious” like Gollum did in Lord of the Ring movie. That's it, man! That's my general description about the album sounds like. I wish you'll be the witness that the rest songs offer solid guitar sound and heavy bass ripped out along with ferocious blasting beats snare of drums.
Anyway, compared to debut LP Witness of Perfect Torture
(2001), Annihilate The Enemy
is slightly better in production. Jasad musical maturity reveals in this second LP. Yeah, I have no doubt about it. However in raw side of sound, both albums have slightly similar touch. With only two albums within decade, please do not judge them less-productive musicians. In point of a view of Indonesia (or South East Asia in general) death scene, two albums in decade is considered productive enough. The guys of Jasad, I believe, being brutal death musician isn't the only job beside them. They're just like any other fellow Indonesian metal musician who has another job such as studio operator, trader, farmer, lawyer, or even as a school teacher. Ombat Nasution for example; beside as frontman and vocalist of Tengkorak, he is a lawyer and businessman all at once. Basically, most Indonesian metal musicians come with this strong principle; "Metal is just for music passion, you won't be rich for being metal musician in Indonesia, even both God and Satan know that. So, lean on your financial sources to another proper job."
You might ask me why I told you this. These words come out my mind due to every country has different experiences in their own metal milieu.
Finally, this is superb release! If it was not, it should be classic stuff. Annihilate The Enemy
has all requisites to be added into a must have list of any purist brutal death fan. Oh heaven, oh hell! What else can I say? I'm stuck in a blank-side of mind! I am not able to write any further to show you more words about them. Probably a cup of black hot bitter coffee would solve the problem. Yes, it should be! So in the end I say; dear all sisters and brothers in metal, I think my short review about Jasad is enough!
