Review Summary: This is ground-breaking.
17 of 21 thought this review was well writtenExperts have flown from around the world - simply to see this band. Rumor has it, Black Sabbath sent Abhor a letter announcing that they would one day surpass the legendary status they uphold.
After hearing this release, its easy to see why.
I Skogen av Djevelen is perhaps the best black metal record to ever be let loose in the public. It is so metal people can't take it. You may be wondering, "it only has like 8 votes, how is it so influential? So vital?" People have died from the metal in this album. The metal has taken their soul, claimed it as their own. Satan himself refuses to listen to this album. Only a select few can listen to this record and live to tell the tale. Seeing as I have survived, it's now my turn to live and tell the tale.
Johnny and Avery absolutely slay on the guitar. Using subliminally implied riffs, they send messages that mess with your brain signals. As much as this is a black metal release, it is also a scientifically sound release. Using psychology experts, Johnny and Avery managed to discover a 'metal trigger,' a part of the brain that is meant to stay switched off.
These sick bastards make it switch on.
When listening it's hard to fight the impulse to start breaking things. Shelves, toys, CDs. Soon that isn't enough. Soon you want limbs. You want blood. But nobody is around except yourself. This is how the people who couldn't engulf this album perished.
Musically, the two man-band are perhaps the greatest of our era. Not only mastering growls, sweeping, shredding, drumming, bass and clean vocals, they are lyrically gifted, slaying down lines such as -
'
Jag vill börja jävla rip öppnar din ryggrad och slicka ditt rövhål så hårt att det gör mig spurt sperma på satans brinnande bröst'
It is sung with such ferocity and penuriousness you can feel the anger ebbing out of Avery and Johnny when they collaborate on the vocals. Imagine a Death type scream combined with Cannibal Corpse's growls. 66 minutes of pure bliss amounts from this combination. The drums are played at a searing pace, -333bpm to be precise. Every song is either 66 or 333bpm per second, depending on the style Abhor try to achieve. The drums fill into their position perfectly, playing fill after fill of slaying after slaying.
This band is bad, in the sense of badboy bad not fade bad. They've killed people, they've even turned the devil on himself. Play with fire and you'll get burned some say. This album is fire, *** with it, and you die.
Yet if you understand it, you will live on with the knowledge that some things are meant to be. Metal is meant to be, Abhor is meant to be.
Let Johnny and Avery live on.
'Jag skulle knulla din mamma så hårt i röven skulle hon brast i tårar av smärta och rädsla och ett barn skulle sprängas från hennes bröst i en spurt av blod och förtvivlan och jag skulle äta det baby 666 satan satan helvete brinnande helvetets djup glädja mig glädja mig.'
