Review Summary: There's more than just darkness and Satan to it, you know...
It didn’t take much actually. After a couple of thorough and often painful listens to this album, I have decided that this album does not necessarily match up with some of the industrial standards that vie heard before. To be perfectly honest, I’m not even sure if the real deal of this album was to be found in the places I thought it ought to be. Aside from the lack of musical taste the band portrayed in their unsettling debut, I really can’t find any faults pertaining to those from the past, which is good to start. But ultimately, whatever good came from this album, it was easily trampled by many faults that eased their way into damn near every corner.
I’ve never been a true fan of White Zombie, but I can honestly say that from some of their previous discography, I’ve heard better. This album starts off immediately pretty rough. "Electric Head Part 1" is nothing too satisfying to be honest, and it doesn’t get any better anytime soon. "Super Charger Heaven" does have its moments, however few and far between they are, but what this track does wrong is mere child's play compared to the ultimate downfall of this album. The vocals. And what better way to kick off the absolute horror than with the very next track "Real Solution #9". I can easily say that after listening to this track, the only real solution at this point, is Prozac. The vocals outdo everything in this song. Since most of the guitar work in this album is pretty generic and nothing truly exciting, it matter that much to begin with. But after a couple minutes of it? It's awful, almost unbearable. Not to sound too rant-y on the subject, I personally believe it couldn’t be said any other way. There is one track however that caught my attention, and not in a bad way either. "Creature of the Wheel" is actually a pretty decent track. The guitars are slightly better and, oh, the vocals aren’t so trashy you can’t stand it. This track stands alone however, and looking forward to more content like this from this album would be a waste of time.
I’ve never been one to listen to the words in music, which is one of the reasons I like bands like Rammstein, which is good industrial, or death/black metal bands. It’s also another reason why I prefer bands who like to go all out and spread their wings and go as far as they'd like to go. (Not to sound preachy or anything) This album fails to do just that. The guitars are generic and the same note is played technically over a d over again. The vocals are the true downfall in this album. They are wretched and unbearable in every aspect, they simply don’t fit anywhere! This album is completely trapped in itself and fails to go anywhere after the first couple of tracks.
So to conclude, this album isn’t really a good way for you to spend your money getting the CD, or a good way to spend time downloading it. It's overall, useless if you're looking for good industrial music, or metal in general.
