Review Summary: Don Caballero at their explosive best.
Don Caballero is really a band well known for the amazing ability of drummer Damon Che and the great use of loops and other effects by guitarist Ian Williams as well as the fact that they have no vocalist (except on Punkgasm). Don Caballero II is an album which displays these elements at their best creating brilliant and dynamic songs throughout the album.
The drumming as always with Don Caballero is the driving force of this album. Great fills and syncopated drum rhythms really make this album what it is. The drumming is almost used as the melody on some songs with the guitars keeping time whilst Damon Che rapes his drum kit to the utmost extent e.g. Dick Suffers Is Furious With You
(the song names are awesome by the way). So if you are fan of bands with good drummers Don Caballero will blow your mind.
Aside from the drums the guitarwork is also of a high standard. Although the riffs aren't the most complex the use of loops and other effects make them interesting and very unique. They work well with the drums sometimes carrying the beat whilst the drums disappear into their own thing. This really shows how well they work together in creating the unique Don Caballero experience.
The bass is not always as audible as it is on albums like American Don but does hold its own with the guitars and drums giving that extra dynamic to the song.
This album is unique and has its own sound as with every other Don Caballero album but somehow stands out from the rest with the use of great guitars drums and bass. This album is very fresh to the ear ranging from noisy interludes(beginning of P,P,Pantless
) to crunchy and somewhat technical riffs (Stupid Puma
, Rollerblade Success Story
If you are a fan of the progressive rock genre this is a must get even if for only one listen because it is a unique experience only capable of being known as the Don Caballero II experience.
