Review Summary: Abandon All Ships is a decent band and Geeving is a great 1st album to kickstart their career. This is another band that combines electronica and Post-Hardcore but be assured that this band does is very well.
Alright I want to start this review off with this idea. Most people do not like the idea of throwing techno and hardcore metal in a can, spin it around, and create something that isn't fertilizer. I'm going to tell these haters that this new genre of music has created an enormous fan base around the world and you can not stop it. So these annoying critics can go cry and listen to Disturbed or something. We can all thank the early work of Attack Attack! For being the first band to experiment with these two formulas.
I think Abandon All Ships is a great band to listen to if you enjoy this new form of music.Â*They do a wonderful job of combining the elements of techno and heavy metal. I really don't know why people are giving Geeving disappointing ratings. I've been reading user's reviews and most people say that the lyrics are very generic. I do not see that at all. I see variety and deep meaning in this album.Â*"Sin is the anchor holding you down" and "God is the captain change the direction"( found in the track Take One Last Breath. ) These lyrics are very meaningful. Keep in mind that this is the band's first album and I am sure that their future work will be even more deeper and mature.
What I don't appreciate about this album are numerous things. I don't enjoy the vocals. The clean vocalist( Martin Broda )sings with a voice enhancer, even in concert.Â*Which I find Humorous. Is his voice really that horrible?Â*I also dislike the screamer( Angelo Aita )I just dislike his screaming.Â*Maybe his voice will get better as the band progresses. Overall the vocals are not that horrible, I guess it could be worse. The instruments are a little dull too, I would like to hear the drums louder and taking over the music with powerful bass.
This band also has Christian based lyrics but if you listen closely you can hear frequent swearing and suggestive themes in the lyrics. Which In my opinion, I don't understand fooling listeners with Christian titles and lyrics, and then thrashing it with obscene lyrics. You can't have the best of both worlds.
Overall this band is not bad at all and Geeving is a great way to kickstart there career with a good 1st album. This band likes to have fun and fist-pump or whatever... But they know how to rock out! "Bro My God, Geeving, and Family Goretrait" are good heavy songs to listen to but don't forget the deep meaningful tracks! "Guardian Angel, Heaven, and Take One Last Breath" are great songs to think about. This band has variety and I see potential in these guys on there next albums. So Abandon All Ships fans, have your fingers crossed!
