Review Summary: If you’re trying to sound like everybody else (in the most unimaginative way), it’s safe to say you’ve succeeded.
Tread The Sky’s,
Man Falls First EP is a go home, mission accomplished, less than average release from a less than average group. Whilst this EP is only three tracks it makes for an extremely disappointing effort that lacks innovation or any memorable moments. Uninspiring could actually be considered an improvement as the bland and recycled ideas crash into the ears of the listener. Wave after wave of monotonous riffs join the fray and for the most part, listeners should be thankful that the
Man Falls First EP is only three songs. The EP has very little to no replay value its sound is nothing more than a run of the mill metalcore structuring and musical ideas.
Featuring poorly executed mid to high screams that sound mildly forced, unspectacular guitar work coupled with a barely noticeable bass effort and rather thoughtless lyrics that border between cliché and simply poor. Just one example, from the second track ‘Eye To Eye’ shows the limited thought put into the lyric sheets.
“I am one, you are two/ three is a crowd, shout out loud”
Listeners should be glad, at the very least that these guys can count. Any expectation past that fact and it will leave them sorely disappointed.
As these tracks all have similar structuring and creative ideas patterns (some of which are recycled) there is little to be said in the way of a highlight. Final track ‘We’re Only Second Guessing’ displays some of the band’s technical talent namely from the drum kit. But the occasionally fancy stick work is overshadowed by the other instruments mundane attempt at interest holding music.
Overall, the
Man Falls First EP is just another less than average metalcore release to be added to the ever growing metalcore ranks. The entire of the EP is sub-par and does not even hint at anything better. While the instrumental aspect of the EP lacks a certain degree of flair, the lyric sheet is worse by comparison. It is easy to say that the
Man Falls First EP lacks flair and is almost completely unmemorable, an EP without gusto or any form of ambition.
