Review Summary: you hear that? That's the sound of your balls growing.

Bermuda have often been compared to Volumes, a metalcore band preferring djent with epic melodies. The comparison is used to help describe Bermuda’s sound, but in actuality, Bermuda are only vaguely similar to Volumes. Melodies are sparsely used, the djent influence is only slight, and they are generally a more straight forward metalcore band. From my description so far, they would seem like a poor man’s Volumes, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. They may have less unique qualities, but that doesn’t stop them from completely raping your view of the genre. After listening to Isolationist(s), you will never want to listen to average metalcore again.

How brutal is the album? Isolationist(s) is so brutal, so heavy, so unspeakably manly, it turns urine into coffee. With unbelievably brutal, inhuman growls as a warning, you really have no idea what you’re getting into. The guitars bring the crushing riffs that are backed by pounding drums, even venturing into blastbeats. The icing on the cake is the production of the music, which is beautifully recorded and mixed perfectly. Overall, it is very listenable, and rather well done.

In terms of negative aspects, there’s quite a lot of them, honestly. For starters, song lengths are usually around two minutes and thirty seconds, ending much too quickly, and creating a shallow listening experience. Also, the songs always end with epic breakdowns, which shouldn’t be a problem, but they start playing them at the half way point in songs. Bermuda’s potential is often wasted through breakdowns which aren’t even that good. It also doesn’t help that the bass guitar is completely inaudible. The band have much to learn, apparently.

Complaints aside, Isolationist(s) is a blast to listen to. They’re definitely not impressing us with originality, but who says metalcore needs to be original to be good? It’s an absolutely insane, intense listen, and that’s worth something. If you’re looking for something you can lift weights to, check out Isolationist(s). This is metalcore for the manly man.
