Review Summary: ehhh........ehhhhh
5 of 20 thought this review was well written“The hardest pop-punk band ever”, a line used to refer to A Day to Remember often , and it kinda explains them, just imagine your listen to lets say Fall Out Boy and 1 minute and 47 seconds into the song a heavy break down kicks in along with Death core growls, yeah sound like it wouldn’t fit at all? Wrong, ADTR makes it fit, but it isn't always good.
Their new album What Separates Me From You has definitely removed a lot of there Metal-core past and replaced with a more Alternative Rock sound, but they still show there core side with songs such as “Sticks & Bricks” “2nd sucks” and “You Be Tails, I’ll Be Sonic”.
Also something that can be immediately noticed is the how much tighter there song writing has gotten, nothing is to long or overdone. And every song is sweet and to the point. The Lyrics remain with same old “the world is out to get me and I’m not going to change for nothing or no one”
The original guitarist Tom Denny had left the band right after Homesick and this is first album to have his replacement Kevin Skaff on it; Kevin Skaff is less Pop-Punk and a bit more “Radio” which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but long time fans will definitely be disappointed.
One of the more impressive things is how they still make most of their chorus's catchy, but catchiness is something A Day to Remember has always been sort of good at.
Its hard to point out any major flaws with this record, but its also hard to point out any Breakthroughs, and hopefully this a style the band will abandon (not saying its bad, But its not A Day to Remember) and return there what now seems old school ways.
If you like catchy “pop-core” then this album is perfect for you but don’t expect the day to remember that once mixed the two genres perfectly, expect a diferent A Day to Remember.
Pros:
Cathchiness
Tighter song writing
2nd Sucks and You Be Yails, I’ll be Sonic
Cons
Less Hardcore
Same lyrics
This is the House That Doubt Built and If I Leave
