i should be studying for a astronomy miderm that i have in 3 hours buttfuckit, im bout to write about the 2011 album of the year.
we all know who Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All Dont Give A Fuck (also known as Odd Future, Wolf Gang, OFWGKTA, OFWGKTADGAF) are by now. for those who dont, OFWGKTA is a rap group based out of LA, CA. if you want to know more, stop what youre doing and check out their wikipedia and youtube videos and then finish reading this review.
okay, so most of their songs are intense. lots of rape, murder, drug use. but then theres frank ocean.
frank ocean is a r&b singer that definitely has the pipes (no homo?) and the songwriting ability to take out pop-r&b-hiphop all stars like trey songz and drake.
he was signed by Island Def Jam but even after writing songs for John Legend, Justin Beiber, and Brandy, Island Def Jam would not release Ocean's album. so like a real G, Ocean released his album for free from his twitter, stating via twitter,
"i. did. this. not ISLAND DEF JAM. that's why you see no label logo on the artwork that I DID. guess its my fault for trusting my dumbass lawyer and signing my career over to a failing company. FUCK Def Jam & any company that goes the length of signing a kid with dreams & talent w/ no intention of following through. fuck em. now back to my day. i want some oatmeal and toast. brunch swag."
swag is right, there was absolutely no reason why this peace of art wasnt on display for all to hear. like i said before, dude has pipes. he knows how to sing (or atleast use autotune very well) and he fuckin samples radiohead, coldplay, mgmt, and the muthafuckin eagles!
so in other words, as stated on the Odd Future's tumblr: “It’s Smooth Ass Music About Bitches, Relationships And Being A Rich Young Nigga…But In A Swagged Out Way.”
