Review Summary: Fun, Catchy, Punk.
Gob was always a fun and catchy band to listen to when I was younger, so recently I decided to give this album and spin and it still holds up to the expectations I had years ago.
The anti-establishment chorus held in "Give Up The Grudge" is enough to take away your woe's from a long day at work, listening to people with thousands of dollars more money than you, complain about their 50 cent coupons not working. "This Evil World" holds onto a catchy chorus as well and some ironic lyrics that will make the listener think "hey, this is totally true." The band also slows it down with "Fed Up" which comes across as sincere and more than just another poppy ballad.
The drumming is simple yet breaks out of the routine by implementing some technicality to the fills and overall beats. The crunchy guitar work gets your heart pounding and the improved vocal work seems to go together much more than in previous efforts. The album could be enough to make radio airplay but still force in some quality mosh pits.
"Bully" is a rare time we hear Gob use harsh vocals that could be compared with a metal vocalist. The song may be a good choice to listen to before a big brawl breaks out and will certainly, ease the pain of being mistreated.
At first listen the album may sound rather shallow but once the listener plays it through a few more times, they will realize that it is so much more that another punk-rock album.
It feels wrong to give this album any lower than a "Classic" rating.
