Weezer released a stunning debut album in 1994 and ever since we've been waiting for a comeback. Every time they announce their new record we think this could be it! But sadly it hasn't happened yet. Then Weezer released Make Believe and everyone thought this was the comeback, the definitive moment in their career that would be even better than the blue album. But as some of us more intelligent people could have predicted from the single
Beverly Hills, this record would disappoint like its predecessors. Guess what, it did. This is probably their worst release and one of the worst this year. Not a single new or innovative idea is presented, and they don't even do the old ideas well. Its bland melodies and lyrics make me want to bash my head against the wall. One of the most painful on the album is
We Are All On Drugs. It’s an anti-drug statement but it only makes me want to get high hoping that then, the music would appear better. The lyrics also are terrible.
For example /when your with your friends/ in your new Mercedes Benz/ and your on drugs/. That’s the kind of lyrics I could do at the top of my head at rap battle (and yes I'm a terrible rapper and no I do not do rap battles either). Speaking of rap let's not forget
Beverly Hills. Rivers Cuomo's rapping is so boring and un-enthusiastic it's painful to listen to. Songs like
Perfect Situation are so bad that I have never made it through the whole song. Though some songs start out promising but then they crash and burn.
This Is Such A Pity has a great chorus drenched guitar intro but then River's ruins it when he starts singing and then the song is unbearable when the chorus starts. As you might know lyrics are important to me and I hate the lyrics so much on this album. On
My Best Friend the lyrics are so happy and radio friendly not to mention boring it makes me want to throw the CD out the window (I still can't figure out why I haven't yet). Songs like
Peace and
The Damage In Your Heart are easily forgettable generic pop-rock songs. Need I mention the other songs? Not really. All the songs are similar and boring generic pop-rock. The thought that I spent money on this brings tears to my eyes. I think it’s about time Weezer called it quits since they never seem to fail to disappoint. Save yourself the pain and the money and don't buy this.
