Review Summary: There's something in the water in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Hailing from lancaster, this town has been pumping out some truly talented bands lately: august burns red, texas in july, this or the apocalypse to name a couple. Now, if you've been keeping up with this band from their first ep, you realize a dramatic improvement from "Salt of the Earth."
Immediately pressing play you notice the vocals have improved tremendously, i dont know what their vocalist has been doing but i like it. Needless to say the drums are impeccable throughout every song. and while the bass is hard to find under it all, the guitars seem almost uninspired at many points. In turn, leaving a couple songs sounding very similar and uninteresting at certain points. Elements, Lancaster, and Satelittes (Geoff from Gwen Stacy appearing in guest vocals in this track) all tend to sound somewhat alike to one another. Switching from one point in one of these three songs to another you could swear you're listening to the same song. That is the major downside of this album, making it overall uneventful.
Otherwise I Am exceeds the previous release, two songs are kept from the ep though. Those being Hook Line, and Sinner and Reflections. Reflections being a stronger more guitar oriented song on the album, and hookline seeming to be the standout song and my personal favorite on the cd. Crushing breakdowns and melodic scales are sure to be found picking up this album while they are also found to be extremely overdone.
For being so young, i would say this band is just starting to show what they are capable of. Although "I Am" hasn't done anything incredible for the genre, Texas In July is showing that they are here to stay.
Yeah, although the sound has been done before and better of course by ABR, there's just something I love about these guys. They actually do some cool stuff that ABR never does like the track "I Am Yours" and like the sweeping solos in Reflections. Even though I rated this album a 4, it's really a 3.5, but i just really like these guys
I just discovered them not too long ago thanks to Last.fm and did some research and some listening and for being so young I'm blown away by the musical talent and songwriting capability these kids have shown me just from one debut album. The recording is awesome and the guitar work never stops to please from catchy riffs to crushing breakdown and chuggs that are anything from cliche. Honestly the highlight of the album is their drummer: Adam Grey who isn't older than 17 years old coming in strong with phenomenal ride, double bass, fills, and head work unlike any other providing with interesting songs from start to finish.
Not to mention all of these guys have a passion for the Lord and play whole heartily for God.
These guys are gonna blow up I think, something like what happened to The Devil Wears Prada...I can't wait to see how they progress
holy shit.... I heard these guys back in like 07... it was awesome. i knew they were gonna make it someday. and interesting fact: the guitarist from this band is cousins with the guitarist from August Burns red. and they're both from Lancaster, thats probably why they sound so similar
