Purple - Stone Temple Pilots.
This is the band’s most successful album, being at No.1 at the Rock Charts for 8 weeks in 1994. This is their second album and probably the best. This album has 6x Platinum on its belt and has the storming song "Interstate Love Song" which came No.1 for 15 weeks in the Rock Chart.
It contains one of the band's biggest hit songs, "Big Empty", which was also featured on The Crow soundtrack. The releases of this album never failed to reach the Top 10, that tells you how good the songs are on this album.

1: Meatplow = 3:40
This is the takeout of the Core album and just stuck on here. This is a fantastic song. A good style of grunge music as the guitar has a crunchy distortion as a starter then the rest comes in a flash. This song sets the standard of the whole album of what it is going to be like. The whole song really sounds grungy and shows what kind of era it is in. Weird lyrics and vocals but a great opener for an album.

2: Vasoline = 2:56 (Mainstream Rock Tracks No. 1)
This song got me hooked on the album! It is so catchy with its basic riffs but it has such an effect. The drums sounds complicated and the fantastic short solo really sums up the song. The solo is fantastic with its wierd noting and it is really fast which suits the tempo of the song. Short song overall but my god, this song is so crazy and catchy it makes you want to listen over and over again. Just great.

3: Lounge Fly = 5:16
This has a weird start to it, with its mind-boggling effects. Then the drums come in with its repetitive rhythm but still keeps the momentum of the song. The guitars sound good with another excellent solo. The vocals sound like rap in the chorus which has a good effect on the song. Overall this is actually an excellent song as it has a good rhythm and strangely gets you interested. Genius.

4: Interstate Love Song = 3:14 (Mainstream Rock Tracks No. 1)
This is my favourite song on this album. Just sounds like a pure, relaxing, rock song. Excellent guitar riffs that is so catchy I ended up keep playing it when I am on my guitar, excellent drums and excellent vocals. This song has been in No.1 in the Rock chart in 1994 for 15 weeks!! Just an excellent song. One of the Temple’s best songs.

5: Still Remains = 3:32
This song is soft and about love. I like this song a lot as it just keeps me up when I hear it. It is one of those feel good songs. Guitaring here is very beautiful with unusual chords and drum pattern is catchy. Bass line is also effective here. Fantastic vocals from Scott as this album shows that the band is at their best.

6: Pretty Penny = 3:37
This is mainly acoustic with some guitar effects. This is the worst in my opinion on the album but it is still all right. It does tend to get boring near the end as it just repeats all the time with the rhythm that tends to bore you of just consistantly acoustic and bongo drums. Vocals are the high point here with varing vocals that shine here. Its an okay song but not impressive.

7: Silvergun Superman = 5:15
This is the most grungest song on the album. It is a very dark song with its lyrics about random stuff but the vocals are very good. Guitars and drums are always good with driving drums that powerhouse the song to the ears and the guitaring is really strong with its grungy sound. A very good song.
It may sound like it is messing up at the end of the song as the music sound like it is overlapping itself but it is part of the song. Dont ask me why.

8: Big Empty = 4:56 (Mainstream Rock Tracks No. 3)
This song is quite slow but grungy. This the soundtrack to ‘The Crows’. I think this song is good to listen to as it passes time with its nice, dark music. The vocals are cool with Scott repeating the words after the chorus ‘Conversations kill’. The guitar gives that emptiness feeling with that country sounding effect that gives the atmosphere of a lonely road. The drums sounds very complicated here but thats what gives the song rhythm. Another very good song.

9: Unglued = 2:33
A very catchy song with its driven beats and grungy riffs. A very short song but effective. Truly random vocals here, I think that Scott was on drugs when he wrote this song but whatever. This is one hell of a catchy song and I personally love it. Nothing to say really but a fast song.

10: Army Ants = 3:44
This is one of the most random songs ever. It starts with a wierd guitar effect playing then straight to hard rock and noise in the verses with Scott yelling something about ‘You don’t know what Im thinking’. This song does have aggression at verses and this probably grows on you gradually everytime you listen to it. But still is a good song either way.

11: Kitchenware & Candybars = 8:04
This song is beautiful. It is very melodic and has some eerie element to it. Everything about it is fantastic, even the lyrics are nice at times. Vocals are amazing here that really gives the edge. The music is very relaxing until the end when there is a very messy solo that I can't make out but I think it has to do with something on the song. A very cool song.
The strange thing is that it finishes at 4:20 and there is another song after a 30 second silence. This is the hidden track called My Second Album (refers to this album being STP's second). I think that this is something random and not even rock. It sounds like 50’s pop music. Neithertheless, this overall song is excellent.
Review: 5/5
Overall the album is fantastic, the best the band has produced and most successful. Another essential album to buy. This album has influenced me into more depth into music with its varing music all the way from the nice side of music to the dark side. I would get if you see it.
OVERALL: 5/5
