Review Summary: Well that's Aenima, a great album. It cost me a hugely overpriced $20 for it, and i couldnt be happier with my buy. I recommend basically anyone interested in Metal, or Tool to buy this ablum. I dont think you will be disapointed in the least bit.
Ok guys this is my first review so go easy on me. I'm doing a review for my favorite album from my favorite band. I'm going to review Aenima by Tool.
Stinkfist- The first song off this album is called Stinkfist, it is my personal favorite song on the album. It's a great song, Maynard's vocals are great as usual and range from loud to soft in a great way. His twisted dark song writing shows up again, if you've ever heard the song you know what its about halfway through. The drum beat is constant and good throughout the song, the guitar rifts are dark as usual but still great none the less. The bass as played by Justin is also great again but not amazing. This song is a great way to open up the album and starts things off interestingly.
Euology- For those who dont like lengthy songs this isn't one of your favorites. Most Tool songs are pretty lengthy anyway so for Tool fans this is nothing new. The song starts off slowly, then progressively adding volume and picks up. This begginning prelude sort of part to the song lasts for about two minutes. Then goes into Maynard singing lowly followed by guitar in the backround. The song doesnt get very heavy compared to Stinkfist, but is still a great song.
H- The third song on Aenima is called H. It starts off quicker than Euology, but not that heavy. The song doesn't really pick up for a while, with Maynard singing at sort of a hush until the three minute mark. This isn't one of my favorite songs on the album, but its worth while at the parts where it does get heavy and it's high points are definitly worth a listen. Mostly the guitar is played but the bass does come in at good parts.
Useful Idiot- This is a short break during the first part of the album, only 39 seconds. The whole thing is just static in the backround, what the purpose is im not sure but its not the only break in the album.
Forty Six & 2- The fifth song on Aenima is forty six & 2. This is along with stinkfist in a group of my most favorite Tool songs. It keeps the bass and guitar heavy and the high points show up alot more than in H. Maynard's vocals vary from loud to soft, also like Stinkfist. The lyrics include catchy rhymes and go well with the dark eerie sound Tool naturally gives off. This song isn't that long, six minues or so but its a very good song.
Message to Harry Manback- This song is a soft and short one. It's a sad message, a recording of a man talking about cancer, and how he dislikes America and its people saying "F**k you, F**k you americans". Only about a minute or so, its another intermission if you will, and again like Useful Idiot the meaning to me is uncertain.
Hooker With A Penis- This is a great, humorous song, as you can probably tell from the title. Tool is a dark band, but shows dark humor and sarcasm. This is no exception from that. The song is a great song, not one of Tool's most amazing songs, but a great song none the less. It's not that long only about ffour and a half minutes, mostly heavy and doesn't get soft much at all. Its worth a good listen and just another great song on this album.
Intermission- As you can guess from the title this is another short break in the album. Its just under a minute of someone playing an organ or piano or something of that nature. Its sounds bright and cheery but because its on a Tool album it sort of disturbes me.
Jimmy- The nineth song on the album is jimmy. It doesn't take any time to start up, just goes right into the bass and guitar playing heavy. Then it slows down to Maynard singing softly and just the bass and drums in the backround playing softly. It picks up every now and then, then reverting back to soft bass, vocals, and drums. It picks up even more at about 2 and a half minutes then goes into a short bass solo. Its a pretty heavy song i guess, not as much as Hooker with a penis, forty six and 2 or stinkfist, but close behind. It's a good song, worth a good listen as well as others on this album, and is five and a half minutes long.
Die Eier Von Satan- In German this means "The eggs of Satan". My friend as you all know on this site londoncalling457 told me this because he takes German. This is a short song again, but is completely in German and is heavy but very dark. I'm not sure but it sounds like Hitler is talking to his people during the song, and its just a guess but it seems like Tool is comparing Hitler to Satan (who wouldn't?).
Pu***- This song starts out with what sounds like flies buzzing around, then goes into a dark guitar riff. Maynard begins singing in a soft way dynamics wise. This is the longest song on the album besides third eye, but is very enjoyable none the less. Similair to Euology the high points aren't amazing and the song overall isn't very heavy but it is a good song. It's sort of a filler, but a hell of a filler with a good mix of instrumental parts and vocal parts, more instrumental but thats fine.
Cesaro Summability- This song starts off with the cry of a baby for half minute, then goes into an assourtment of eery sounds and then ends. This again, a shorty of only one minute twenty six seconds.
Aenema- Alot of bands when they release an album have a song that is the same title of the album. I dont know if Tool is mocking this but the song is closely spelled to Aenima, the name of the album. This is a pretty funny song as well as hooker with a penis, it begins while talking about the end of the world. It has a creepy humor of Maynard saying what kind of people annoy him and why, then basically says throughout the whole song that people annoy him so much he doesn't care if the world ends. He states that "I sure could use a break from these stupid ***s", probably an exageration but either way it doesnt make the song bad at all. He also repeatedly says "LEARN TO SWIM, LEARN TO SWIM, LEARN TO SWIM" then asks mother nature for title waves to flush us all away. It's a wierd song but certainly makes you think. It's a somewhat lengthy six minutes and thirty nine seconds but a great song none the less.
(-) Ions- This is a wierd add to the album. It is litterally four minutes of a thunderstorm. I learned in Science (yeah i actually learned something in school) that when negative and positive ions collide it creats a thunderstorm. So I'm guessing the title is exactly what the song is. It's not a short break by any means, but then again i wouldn't know its meaning.
Third Eye- For about two and half minutes during the begginning of the song there is a clip from a stand up comic, when i first heard the song i thought it was another break of some sorts and was disapointed the album was going to end like that. But then came Maynards vocals and the rest of the band started playing. The song ends up to be the longest song on the album, a whopping thirteen minutes or so. It's a good song, and i believe along with pu*** shows up on Salival.
