[b] The Jimi Hendrix Experience's
Axis: Bold As love

The Jimi Hendrix Experience is:
Jimi Hendrix - Guitar/Vocals
Mitch Mitchell - drums
Noel Redding - Bass

This is Axis: Bold As Love, The Experiences 2nd album. Jimi Hendrix's music was very 2 sided in this point of his career, his first album, "are you experienced?" was made to entertain his live audiences, were as, "Axis: Bold as Love" was made almost entirly in the studio, and most songs could'nt be played live. Each memeber brought there own piece to the Experience, Jimi with his blues style guitar and powerfull lyrics, Mitch with his jazz drumming, and Noel an already acomplished guitarist, brought a guitarists sort of bass to the table. Many new inovations can been found in this album, for example, the reverse tape effect in castles made of sand, the voice effect in exp, the effects in you got me floatin', and the excessive use of Wah in many tracks, many of these effects were used in later works of Jimi's, but this was one of the first times in which The Experienced used them.

Tracks
1.EXP
a strange opener to say the least...cant really rate or review this

2.Up From the Sky 2.5/5
a very blues sort of song, not really my thing. Nice use of Wah, catchy vocals

3.Spanish Caslte Magic 5/5
Heaviest song on the album, awesome verses with a better chorus, and a great solo by Jimi, buetiful guitar work, and Noel's guirtar bass really shines here

4.Wait Until Tomorrow 2/5
worst song on the album IMO, I hate the chorus, many people my liek this song, but to me its annoying not really my type of song, but other then that very nice guitar work and Drums

5.Ain't No Telling 3.5/5
i like the backing vocals to this, nice guitar work and nice verses.

6.Little Wing 5/5
I love this song, My favorite on the album, i just wish it was longer, buetiful vocals, drums, bass and guitar, in other words i like ever aspect, one of the truer songs on the album, has a very deep feeling.

7.If 6 was 9 5/5
Great vocals on this one, although i have no idea what they mean, they sound good i like Mitch's jazz drumming in this one,the bass towards the end of the song in the insturmental brake, and a sort of drum solo towards the end, sort of creepy how Jimi talks about himself dying...

8.You got me Floatin' 3.5/5
I like this song, catchy vocals and nice guitar, with a great solo, sort of a filler, but not all fillers are bad, just look at paranoid by black sabbath that was intended to be a filler track, then it turned out to be an album track.

9.Castles Made of Sand 5/5
the backwards effect was used by flipping the tape and re-recording on it, not exactly sure how this works, but it sounds great. Probably the most meaningful lyrics on the album, beutiful song all around.

10.She's so Fine 2/5
i hate the vocals on this song, not sure who this is, probably Noel, but i hate his voice, other then that ok insturment work by the Experience, just wish noel would shut up..

11.One Rainy Wish 5/5
Awesome Song, the vocals are very catchy and a fun sing-along,the song is very catchy, buetiful instrument work and vocals on this well rounded song.

12.Little Miss Lover
nice Wah,and Vocal effect in the begining, very up pace drums and bass.

13.Bold as Love 5/5
The album track, has very powerfull lyrics and buetiful guitar work, i guess you could cal lit a sort of rock ballad,I love it, was one of my favorites for a long while but i listened to it to much, now it dosnt have the same effect on me

Upsides
-Since it was a studio Album, Many effects were in the Experience's hands
-This Album has more slow paced songs, which is just my type of songs
-Almost every song exceeds 2:00 mins, alot of whichl exceed 3:00 mins

Downsides
-Noel Redding's vocals
-Inability to play songs live...this really has no effect on me, but if it was my generation i'd be sorta mad

Overall
5/5

all of Hendrix's stuff was amazing, Axis: BL being no exception. The amount of innovative guitar work has inspired many musicians in the following years. If you Compare this to Are you Experienced?, you'll find this album with much more raw emotion, meaning, and overall beuty that is the experience...

Sorry, that really was a bad review. Plus, I don't see how you can be a real Hendrix fan and give Up from the Skies a 2/5, and Wait Till Tomorrow is awesome, such a good sing-along-song

Really good album. I have this on record. I never decided to buy the Hendrix catalog on cd yet for some reason, except his best of.

This is an awsome album and Little Wing is definetly one of my favorite songs. Just as a piece of advice, please do not be so brief in your explantoins, remember these reviews are to help someone who hasn't heard the album you really need to tell WHY a song is good, "Awesome Song, buetiful instrument work and vocals on this well rounded song." dosen't say much.

Album Rating: 4.5

This is my least favorite Experience album, I prefer Electirc Ladyland, then Are You Experienced?, then Axis: Bold as Love, but if it is all of Jimi's recordings, Band of Gypsys is above Axis IMO
