New Porcupine Tree Album

2009-06-12 by VicariousIntent | 62 Comments
English prog rockers Porcupine Tree recently posted a new blog on their myspace announcing the upcoming release of their tenth studio album entitled "The Incident". "The Incident" is to be released as a double disc album with the title track being the album's focus.

The blog is posted below:

" Porcupine Tree are happy to announce the forthcoming release of their tenth studio album "The Incident". The record is set to be released via Roadrunner Records worldwide on 21st September, as a double CD.

The centre-piece is the title track, which takes up the whole of the first disc. The 55-minute work is described as “a slightly surreal song cycle about beginnings and endings and the sense that ‘after this, things will never be the same again’.”

The self-produced album is completed by four standalone compositions that developed out of band writing sessions last December - Flicker, Bonnie The Cat, Black Dahlia, and Remember Me Lover feature on a separate EP length disc to stress their independence from the song cycle.

Video footage of the band in the studio working on The Incident, as well as audio previews, will be available online soon. The band will tour extensively to promote the album from mid September onwards. "

I'd really love to learn how to quote things properly.

On topic though, so excited for this.

I am incredibly excited for this release. On the whole though, the track names don't seem like typical track names from Porcupine Tree...but I'm pretty drunk so maybe it's me.

looking forward to this. the fact it's a double disc worries me, though. most bands struggle to keep the quality up with double-discs, but i have faith.

I'm looking forward to this as well, but I think it is kind of ridiculous how they are making a 55 minute song. I just don't understand why bands would want to make something so long, and would they be able to play it live? I'm sure it will still be great though.

Why? Ever since Gavin Harrison has been in the band the music has been simply amazing.

They made a legit 17minute song, why can't they make a legitimate 55 minute song?

Besides, it'll probably have different movements in between so it won't just feel like one jumbled mess.

I say it's going to kick ass and going to get all the praise it deserves.

There is a huge difference between a 17 minute song and a 55 minute song. And even if it does have movements, It doesnt matter. They could at least break up the song into the movements for a series of shorter songs, but something tells me its gonna be a few chips of gold in a huge pile of filler. But I'm not saying that the album will definitely suck. I could be completely wrong and it will blow every 2009 album out of the water.

i'm betting the 55 minute song will be split into different tracks because it's fucked up otherwise, i expect something similar to 6doit or even the first disc to be some sort of foabp and the second to be a nil recurring thing except they're not outtakes

didn't they say somewhere that among other things they also simply wanted to piss off the ipod generation by recording such a long track? not sure though.

however, as Porcupine Tree albums are usually better when listened to in one go it won't bother me anyway.

You'd think one could think of a better idea to promote an album than destroying a product that your album is going to end up on anyway.

not sound the same throughout

be lyrically brilliant

PT wouldn't let something as big as a 55-minute song slip. I have a feeling it'll challenge for their best, and if the rest is anything near as good as their recent stuff, we have one hell of an album on our hands...

What's so weird about a 55 minute song? Light of Day, Day of Darkness was absolutely amazing and Green Carnation had never had a song over 60 minutes before that one came out.

Apparently this is about SW being stuck on the highway in a traffic jam driving past a car accident and it said POLICE - INCIDENT. Then he thought "what a cold way to describe something as tragic as a car accident" and went from there.
