I'm not a fan of Devin, but I guess I've always wondered how he comes up with alot his of lyrical concepts. I guess that's a (shitty) question.
But still, this is really awesome to see him getting interviewed here.
wow this awesome Tyler. Devin is one of my fav all around musicians. ill try and think of some questions. look forward to the final product
Okay, I'll post the obvious one:
Is there any chance of an SYL reformation?
And now for an interesting one:
What are some of his influences? A lot of his music is extremely varied, so what kind of bands give him his ideas?
will you ever collab with soilwork ala natural born chaos again
i realize the few backup vocals he provided wasn't really much of a collab, but doing more work with them would be great
why is he so awesome?
ask him that one.
When did you start going bald?
Is Ziltoid intended to be a fictional version of himself? if so, does he have a craving for coffee?
Is the music for the 3 other Devin Townsend Project albums written yet, and if so, what are the overall sounds of each album?
Why did you lose the Skullet?
Are you going to be making any vocal/guitar guest appearances or are you trying to focus strictly on the production side of things.
tyler you lucky ducker.
i'll just second the SYL reunion question.
posted my super srs question on your facebook status tyler
Digging: Ingurgitating Oblivion - Vision Wallows In Symphonies Of Light
Got big into Terria and Ocean Machine lately, it's absolutely fucking incredible. One of my favorites so I'll think about something I'd like to hear from him.
ask him what it was like touring with the wildhearts, and if he plans to collaborate with them or ginger again anytime soon.
also, considering his use of compression in recordings, what's his take on the loudness war?
tyler you lucky mofo omg. i would love to talk to devy.
Have you recently worked with any of the members of SYL on anything?
How does Ki differ from your previous works?
Why'd you lose the skullet?
Did doing guest vocals on Becoming the Archetype's latest release give you an itching to start writing music again?
What are some of your most spun records of as late?
hmm ill post more if i think of some.
Will you be working with the SYL guys again, maybe in his solo work, like he did on Physicist? Will we ever see the skullet, or SYL again? What do you think of: Opeth, Cynic, Slipknot, Morbid Angel, Behemoth, Black Sabbath, Death, Kreator, Lamb Of God, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Tool, and Testament? Do you listen to more old music, or new music? What was your first guitar? Do you still talk to Byron, Jed, and Gene regularly?
Also, I play guitar, drums, and bass, and I really want to make a living playing music, some advice would be great. This Message Edited On 05.15.09
He did one of the Sequioa Throne remixes, right? Ask him about that.
Do you listen to any other genres outside of rock/metal, and does that have an influence on your writing/playing?
Ask him what his songwriting process is like. Is it music or lyrics first? Does it all come from him or does he let his mates add to it?
ask him if the extra discs that are planned for the DTP boxset are going to be released separately too, for the benefit of those who buy Ki, Addicted, Deconstruction, and the fourth one as soon as they're released.
ask him what is his preferred method of communicating with God? I'd like to compare notes...
i love how he says keep the stupidity to a minimum and then the same question gets requested like 7 times because people don't read
last chance guys
his favorite song from the new album and why?
What does he think about his first album "Ocean Machine Biomech" in retrospect? Does he like it more now after all these years? Does he realise the fact that it is his best album and he will never be able to top it? Because truth is and he knows it too for sure that majority of people consider it his best music written.
Interview is done. I actually ran out of time but I got a lot of your questions in. It went very well, expect it up in the next few days.
