Ziggy Stardust to return?
2009-01-26 by Nick Butler STAFF | 13 Replies | 3017 Views

In what would represent a stunning coup for the festival, Coachella organizers are reportedly in talks with David Bowie over the possibility of his Ziggy Stardust character headlining this year's event.

The festival, which is know for often featuring recently re-united bands as headliners (last year's event saw Portishead and The Verve play, while Rage Against The Machine, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Gang of Four, and Pixies have all played recently), are apparently confident that they can convince Bowie to perform his landmark 1972 album The Rise & Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars in its entirety, having failed to persuade him in time for last year's event.

After a second album of material performed live as Stardust in 1973 (Aladdin Sane), Bowie killed off the character, in a desire not to be typecast.

If anything stops it from happening I think it'll be Bowie's health. He might feel that a gig of this length, particularly one likely to take a lot of effort and planning, might not be worth it at his age.

Yeah, like the other guy said, he has a heart condition and pretty much retired from performing a few years ago.
