Atlanta metalheads, Mastodon, have returned to the studio to record their follow up to 2006's Blood Mountain. This time Brendan O'Brien, not Matt Bayles, will be producing the album.

I like Leviathon but in my opinion Blood Moutain owns the hell out of it. Looking forward to hearing the new stuff down the road.

O'Brien has done a lot of Bruce Springsteen stuff recently. Mastodon are trying to bring in a little of that E Street Shuffle.

I'll be interested on whether they try and perfect the route they have taken over the last two albums, or if they will switch gears and produce something different.

should be good. Leviathan is their best album IMO, there were some boring bits on Blood Mountain
i heard it's going to be about space... hopefully a better concept than BM's concept...
i liked Leviathan's concept much much more.

Still exciting no matter what they decide to do.

Blood Mountain was great but it wasn't as good as Leviathan. Still, this should be very good indeed.
