No thank you
Yes thank you
Well, as long as Brann doesn't sing
nah, i'm good...
Digging: The Knife - Silent Shout
I simply cannot wait
Digging: Whirr - Sway
"polarizing concept record"
calling it polarizing is kinda tabloid press isnt it
Digging: Perturbator - New Model
yeha it was well received
guys don't you think this is a little early to be adding it to the database though
Yeah EoS was very well received by most people. Excited to hear what this will sound like, EoS was supposed to be a double album but I guess they split them up.
Also dat artwork is bitchin'
Digging: The Contortionist - Clairvoyant
sure why the hell not
also was EOS really polarising?
Digging: The National - Sleep Well Beast
i sincerely hope not
Digging: Alex Cameron - Forced Witness
between this, converge and brand new, sput groupthink is having a cracking second half of the year..
Digging: Rip Rig Panic - God
I hope the entire record is several remixes of Show Yourself
lol that would be a great goof
until it wouldn't
hope it sounds like older Mastodon.
Digging: Gabor Szabo - Dreams
ancient mastodon even..
I prefer Brent's voice over all the other guys in the band so i'm ok with this. Also cover is better than Emperor of Sand.
It seems it could be even softer and more etherealish than EoS. Love the cover though.
Digging: Zola Jesus - Okovi
something akin to a full album of The Sparrow could be cool
Awesome! More Mastodon is always a great thing!
"New Mastodon LP in September?"
nah im good thanks plz don't.
Digging: Dimlite - Runbox Weathers
Wouldn't be surprised if it's one long track. Album art makes it seem like that for some reason.
I get this bad feeling man, it's simply way to fast. Hope this doesn't turn out a dud.
I haven't "loved" an album of theirs since Crack The Skye...actually maybe The Hunter as that was the last album I really liked. I hope they can win me back with this release, but I'm gonna head into this with low expectations.
Digging: Paradise Lost - Medusa
"Wouldn't be surprised if it's one long track. Album art makes it seem like that for some reason."
Now the question is: Is it going to feel completely rushed?

Best way to prepare for the inevitable disappointment
"Best way to prepare for the inevitable disappointment"
Exactly why I'm heading into this release with low expectations.
heres their chance to make up for Emperor of Sand.
Digging: Rainbow Danger Club - Souvenirs
Mastodon coming out with a new album means my brother will go to the record store which means I'll be able to go to the record store. Hype
I enjoyed EoS, but to me it's their worst album. I'm hoping that whatever this is ends up being better than their previous release.
this will suck
Its not even a disappointment any more. I expect it to suck.
Huh, people say that Emperor of Sand wasn't that polarizing but I sure as hell am not seeing that on this thread. I thought it was a fantastic album but the bands direction has carried them long past their glory days. Actually, I don't think the band had a real masterpiece besides Leviathan.
"guys don't you think this is a little early to be adding it to the database though"
@trackbytrackreviews I don't think this will be a proper album, it may be B-sides and unreleased tracks from the Once More Round the Sun recording sessions
Digging: White Moth Black Butterfly - Atone
They had talked about a double album prior, so the possibility is undoubtedly there. However, they do not, beyond the shadow of a doubt, say this will be an LP. I cannot see a full LP being formed from a single band members bad breakup anyway, however I suppose many albums have revolved around such a theme before.
someone in a Masto thread said this was written alongside Emperor of Sand and was originally going to be a Bhinds solo record. if that user knows what hes talking about, no, this isnt going to be a b-sides album.
It's actually gonna be a Kate Bush cover album
Emperor of Sand was great - their best since Crack The Skye and possibly better than Blood Mountain
Don't have high hopes for this though
Oh yeah! Last album was excellent, hope this one gonna be same good as EoS or even better.
Digging: Foo Fighters - Concrete and Gold
Whole concept of the album seems childish in comparison to Emperor of Sand. They have gone from writing about cancer to a messy breakup...
Digging: Moonsorrow - Verisakeet
Not to crush people's hopes but I've heard this is an acoustic ep and not a full length new album. I could be wrong however, as there was also rumours emporer was meant to be a double album, so there may be music leftover from that... If that's the case I'd imagine this would be stylistically very similar to emporer.
Digging: Threshold - Legends of the Shires
Their last record was ok...
Another new album? Certainly fine with me, hope it will be good
Whether this is OMRtS and EoS b-sides or a completely new album, I expect it to be okay at best. EoS sounded very safe for Mastodon, hopefully they release something different
Digging: Alpha Male Tea Party - Health
More Brann on vocals please
havent even listened to EoS yet lol
Digging: Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Luciferian Towers
It needs to be good simply because this cover deserve to be the cover of a good album.
"They have gone from writing about cancer to a messy breakup..."
Both subjects can take an artist to inspirational dark places. The way EoS portrayed the battle against cancer was one of the strong points of the album.
Two Mastodon albums in one year? It's a good time to be alive.
I think 1 album a year is more than enough mastadong
Can't have enough Mastodon, dude.
Oh man, the last album was boring as hell. Their tour was boring, too.
I used to be into these guys, but after The Hunter I just can't get into them anymore. I even thought Show Yourself was at least an interesting detour, as hated as it was. I can't appreciate their meandering prog stuff - it's not technically innovative enough (just fast, emotionless tremolo fret-hopping with no satisfying melodies or progressions), and not heavy enough (no more kick your ass, knockout riffs like Blood & Thunder). Vocals lost some grit, too.
If I want to listen to prog these days, I need more emotion, rawness and/or innovation/musicality. Middling technical chugging just doesn't bring me back for repeat listens.
I'll check it out but don't expect it'll change my mind. Hope I'm wrong.
they're absolute dogshit live. zero energy. sad.
Digging: Craig Finn - We All Want the Same Things
Gotta concentrate on the riffs bro
agreed. hear that, brent? save some blow for after the set maybe idk.
All that blow explains all that nonsensical pig squealing he does
according to laura jane grace there isn't a band on earth that parties harder than these guys. unfortunately it really showed both times i saw them.
What a dissapoint me that it's only an EP...
