We must have submitted pretty much the same headline/article, ha. And I thought I was being slick :p
Song is okay. Reminds me a bit of what Uneven Structure did with their most recent, though The Contortionist have been hinting at this for a couple albums now. Gonna keep my expectations set low.
|
| |
can't believe this is the same band that released exoplanet
this is just so bland and boring fuck these guys
|
| |
I'm hoping this isn't indicative of the album as a whole.
|
| |
So disappointing. Waste of talent. Thought they got this slower type of stuff out of their system with their reimagined release of Language.
|
| |
Dope.
|
| |
If I wasn't already out, I am now.
|
| |
Incredibly boring.
|
| |
Trash.
|
| |
exoplanet style pls
|
| |
god dammit
|
| |
Linkin Park wishes they were The Contortionist
|
| |
ehh don't see the hate for this, it's aight
|
| |
'exoplanet style pls'
That's what I was thinking when I read this: "The song features a strong stylistic shift, showing the band going in a much less progressive direction than previous releases." But, I guess not.
|
| |
Can they choose a style and stick with it pls and thank you
Also this was boring, but the guitar had some cool ideas like at 1:58
|
| |
it's not that bad though, just more accessible
|
| |
Forever wishing for Exoplanet 2.
|
| |
Honestly, fuck Exoplanet. People should drop any expectations of that style returning. This should be judged on it's own.
That being said.....it's 'aight. Hoping this is the mellow, simple single for the album. But I'm not bummed at all by them continuing to mellow out. Some more technical/intricate instrumentals would be appreciated though.
Also: anyone ever have the issue where you can't comment sometimes if you're the first to comment? Tried to comment on here as soon as it was posted and there simple wasn't a comment box.
|
| |
honestly, fuck you.

I know a lot of people got into this band through Exoplanet, but I first heard their stuff on Language and liked their more progressive style with songs like "Thrive" and "Primordial Sound." That being said, this is pretty disappointing.
|
| |
They're getting dangerously close to straight-up radio rock.
|
| |
"Clairvoyant"
I can def see this band repeating this word to hell like they did with "ebb and flow" lol
Honestly the music is quite nice. The vocals are pretty weak though. The song really reminds me of A Perfect Circle.
|
| |
I always found their chuggy stuff boring, this shift was clearly coming after Language and I love it. I'd reserve judgement 'till the album comes out cuz there's a 10 min song on it so I highly doubt they've left prog behind and become radio rock based one 1 song...
|
| |
What is this garbage? I expected more Sikth-like, djenty progressive metalcore stuff and less this chill, current-age Linkin Park stuff.
|
| |
Linkin Park lol
|
| |
Am I the only one who really loved Language!?
|
| |
And I got into these guys when they released Exoplanet. I'm fine with the shift in sound will check single in a bit
|
| |
hope they become the new deftones so i can stop hearing people talk about deftones all the time tbh.
|
| |
"Am I the only one who really loved Language!?"
It's got a 3.9 avg, so...no.
|
| |
Dromasta trust me you're not alone. just most people on Sputnik don't care for it
|
| |
Ehh I hope not. I like Deftones but I definitely feel as though they have an extremely fanboyesque group of followers. They are a really original band but slightly overrated
|
| |
Yeah I get that it has a high average Drummerboy but people on here always react very negatively towards this band forum wise. That I don't understand
|
| |
Language was good, but Exoplanet was just a beast of a record
|
| |
It's been 7 years since they've played prog-influenced deathcore shit, not sure why people would expect them to go back to an Exoplanet sound.
That being said, song is okay. It's definitely a waste of technical ability but it's mixed really well and has a nice ambient tone going for it.
|
| |
Agreed it is still my favorite album of theirs. Spacecore perfection
|
| |
'It's been 7 years since they've played prog-influenced deathcore shit, not sure why people would expect them to go back to an Exoplanet sound.'
I don't think its that we all expect a sudden return, but more so that they just get farther away with every release. It's to the point that I wasn't even excited when I saw this headline.
|
| |
Okay, so I'm pretty conflicted.
I genuinely liked this, but this isn't what I wanted from this band in the first place.
|
| |
I'm on the same boat as Daedus - I didn't think they'd take the ambient direction any further than they already did
|
| |
Dunno why everyone is taken aback, they've been getting more ambient and vibe-y since Intrinsic. Language was my fave by them, Exoplanet has some bangers but is less cohesive for me.
|
| |
This made me want to go back and listen to Intrinsic again....my god that is one hell of a underrated album.
|
| |
pretending that exoplanet doesn't exist doesnt make this any less average :'(
|
| |
I really liked it. I admit I'm not coming into this being a fan of the band (I've only heard a song here and there), but I still feel this is an excellent track.
|
| |
this vaguely reminds me of when alcest released shelter. an album of perfectly fine, inoffensive chill shit from a band capable of so much more
bring back the riffs please
|
| |
I'm glad we're not all jumping to conclusions after one song. /s
That being said, it's definitely chill– sounds like an opener or a transitional song and I'm fine with that. Language is one of the best progressive metal albums imo and I'm optimistic of their new stuff.
|
| |
Nearly fell asleep when I saw them live. This doesn't look like its gonna change that.
|
| |
aye, at least it isn't the direction volumes went in
|
| |
"Forever wishing for Exoplanet 2."
Aaaand forever wishing you will be, cuz that shit ain't ever gonna happen.
|
| |
How can any of you "Exoplanet or bust" fans think that after they released Language and then the reimagined slower versions of Language, that they would suddenly say "fuck it" and go back to their Exoplanet sound?
I'm noy saying one sound is superior to the other, but it just seems like wasted energy to me.
|
| |
Pretty sweet.
|
| |
I for one feel this is the best thing they've released. Their records never grabbed me and their live show boarderline put me to sleep! On this single they took the approach that TesseracT did and streamlined their sound. It sounds to me that this style suits them.
|
| |
This is boring and plain compared to Language.
|
| |
So much better than all their past shit
|
| |
this is ok I guess. I hope the album more like Language in the end though
|
| |
Zzz. Language was fantastic, this is boring.
|
| |
'How can any of you "Exoplanet or bust" fans think that after they released Language and then the reimagined slower versions of Language, that they would suddenly say "fuck it" and go back to their Exoplanet sound?'
Just because we saw this coming doesn't make it less disappointing. It's vanilla. Chalk it up with the newest Pianos Become the Teeth or A Lot Like Birds.
|
| |
lol at people crying for Exoplanet Part 2...
New song is good.
|
| |
This may sound weird, but I've always thought of Contortionist to be amazing at crafting music, but absolute shit at writing SONGS. Of course there is a place for bands like that, way down below someone like BTBAM who mastered both very early on.
This is a pretty good song. Subtle hooks and things. I liked.
|
| |
"Chalk it up with the newest Pianos Become the Teeth [...]"
Keep You is an excellent album.
|
| |
Song is ok... Kinda reminds of Thrice.
|
| |
I love Language. That album as a current progressive metal album is one of my favorites from the past decade. With that being said, "primordial sound" is a shit track. and I knew they would follow that direction because every time I see them live they play that shit and people love it.
I can see this as the "primordial sound" of the new album. regardless, I'm still hype for it.
also, I still jam exoplanet at the gym from time to time. what a banger.
|
| |
Lame.
|
| |
This shit hypercommunicates hard
|
| |
They've lost the members who were at the wheel for their (subjectively) better sound
|
| |
i like their other stuff but was never that invested in the band, might be why i actually like this a fair bit
|
| |
well that's a huge change, bands seem to like doing this nowadays
|
| |
oh god no
plz
|
| |
yo this that breaking benjamin, linkin park shit
|
| |
Im sure the band is going to have a lot more in store for us lol
|
| |
Agreed. This is pretty much the tip of an iceberg.
|
| |
It's a pretty shitty iceberg then
|
| |
global warming melt-ass iceberg.
|
| |
Honestly its not a bad track and grows on you. Its disappointing as someone who wanted more heavy songs and a return to a Exoplanet sound but it is still a damn good song. Generic? Yes. Bad? No. Underwhelming for a band who is held to very high progressive standards? Yes.
Still its not a bad song even if it is much softer then even the single the released with Language.
That being said they are doing the same thing they did with Language, release one of the slowest songs (I hope) and let fans speculate. Then blow everyones mind when they release the full album.
Stop being so overdramatic guys, its 1 damn song.
|
| |
People that think they want to make the prog-metal/metalcore stuff need to really get over it! If you don't like it then move on!
|
| |
This is a real solid song, can't believe the outrage on this thread. Can't a band like change up their sound a little lol
|
| |
I like it.
|
| |
"yo this that breaking benjamin, linkin park shit"
and they're way better than most of them. I like the song.
"The song really reminds me of A Perfect Circle."
right?? the song sounds nice from that perspective
|
| |
Contortionist go APC? Def checking after work
|
| |
Yeah I think it is an enjoyable track overall. I bet if this was some brand new band the response to this song would be much more positive.
My only issue is how lifeless their vocalist always sounds. I know that's part of the aesthetic but it gets old.
|
| |
I really dig this, and I adore Exoplanet over any of their other releases. Definitely agree with the APC vibe too, it's really well put together.
|
| |
People still crying their eyes out and circle jerking to Exoplanet in comments?
Let me taste your tears. They are rich in salt and taste good.
This isn't a bad song. Sorry it's not all polyrythmic chugging. It's like the 4th song on the album and the shortest. I see this as more of a breather track between some heavier stuff. Also gets better after a few listens.
|
| |
'I bet if this was some brand new band the response to this song would be much more positive.'
Yeah and if I was a dog, I wouldn't be typing this comment. Any band with previous work will always draw comparisons to their older albums. I always hate that argument, bloc.
|
| |
Well it applies to why you're so butthurt dbizzles; let go of some of your expectations and you might not feel so disappointed.
|
| |
I'm not even butthurt. I lost interest in them a while ago and didn't even really complain about the change in sound, holmes. I just said it's vanilla and that it's dumb to think people aren't going be disappointed by this.
In fact, it looks like just as many, if not more, users are crying about people not being on board with this.
|
| |
you've made eight comments so far whining about the song man give it a rest already
|
| |
K, having a discussion is whining now. Got it.
EDIT: I did make that shitty iceberg comment, I forgot about that.
|
| |
"Any band with previous work will always draw comparisons to their older albums"
I agree and disagree. While I personally was pretty let down by this track because I had rediscovered the beauty of "Language" recently and listening to it pretty extensively, it's very easy to put the past behind you and move into the future. That's how I found beauty in DIVISI. I believe it's completely optional whether or not you would want to stay disappointed in comparison to those past records, or move forward and embrace the change without bias. In conclusion, three listens in and I'm not loving it but it is a grower.
|
| |
I'm pretty sure feelings are not optional
|
| |
this is really solid but just not what anyone wants to hear from this band. their singer sounds great though.
|
| |
dat server double post
|
| |
Language sold more than Exoplanet and Intrinsic combined so saying no one wants this is nonsense.
|
| |
Song is nice. I'm sure the rest of the album will be more proggy, singles tend to be a little more basic.
|
| |
this is nice, language > exoplanet anyways oops
|
| |
Exoplanet is the only album of theirs that I don't like. It was just generic tech deathcore.
I'm tired of over-the-top technicality and complexity. Not that I don't appreciate a degree of complexity. I think it's better to be creative and emotive with your sound moreso than trying to be the MOST technical you can be.
With that said; this new song is quite a bit less impressive and interesting than Language and Intrinsic. But it's still pretty cool mellow shit.
|
| |
This sounds like store brand Opeth.
|
| |
Shite
|
| |
..I liked it
|
| |
Heard this a second time and I like it even more. Liking the video a lot too
|
| |
"EDIT: I did make that shitty iceberg comment, I forgot about that."
I believe your words were "global warming melt-ass iceberg" lol
I did laugh at that comment; pretty good stuff there.
|
| |
Lol yeeeah, about that... I was more just trying to be funny than actually complaining, but I can see why users might see otherwise : )
|
| |
The song really reminds me of A Perfect Circle. [2]
|
| |
lol the singer looks like the most generic guy ever conceived.
didnt liked their previous music at all, but this song is actually decent
|
| |
“yea, hate to break it to y'all, but exoplanet isn't good”
Of course a guy named after a trash rapper has a bad opinion
|
| |
I liked the song quite a bit. Sure, it's not Exoplanet but I already knew this. Those who are calling this crap because it's not deathcore are the reason I can't take this site seriously.
Their last album sounded exactly like this. You've had more than enough time to evaluate if you'd still listen to them with the new sound.
|
| |
what do you mean? deathcore is the best genre clearly
|
| |
"Those who are calling this crap because it's not deathcore are the reason I can't take this site seriously."
deathcore is one of the most hated genres on sput dude, so idk what you're sayin here
and yeah deathcore is crap, especially is they try to go prog urgh
|
| |
Don't get my words confused, I like deathcore. Fuck, 50% of what I listen to is metalcore.
I just don't see why people have this mindset that if a band becomes less heavy they are of a lesser quality.
|
| |
I think it's just a taste thing but it does sometimes feel like a bandwagon mentality
|
| |
Language is fucking amazing. This track is pretty cool.
|
| |
yes, kinda tame, but i'm still down to see what they cook up for their next album. Reimagined was pretty swee
|
| |
love it
|
| |
I get being disappointed, but saying this is garbage? This is clearly a competently crafted track whether you like the style or not. Quit being drama queens.
|
| |
Catchy
|
| |
Good song. Also the album art is really fucking cool.
|
| |
this shit sucks
|
| |
That album cover is sick.
|
| |
This is cool, loved Exoplanet, liked Intristic, LOVED Language...I don't get the hate on this. No, it's not groundbreaking, nor totally unique, but its nice. I don't want a whole album of it, but its fine.
|
| |
Why does the album art look like something a nu-dissonance death metal band would put out
|
| |
more like nine inch nails downward spiral remix cover
|
| |
That new Ulcect album rings some bells. Or even the most recent Execration album. Damn these guys like spirals and circles.
|
| |
The deathcore shit from these guys is in the past. Time to let it go. I like this. Pretty chill.
|
| |
Sounds like they are trying hard to seem like they aren't trying hard which, in turn, makes it sound like they are trying hard to seem like they aren't trying hard which, in turn, makes it sound like they are trying hard to....
I'm sure the album will be okay and will received by the majority of listeners. I'll give it a spin. They deserve that from me at least.
|
| |
